Kilmarnock are trying to sign Lee McCulloch and Kris Boyd with the former Scotland internationals being out of contract with Rangers.

Manager Gary Locke wants defender McCulloch as his assistant manager but says the 37-year-old is still hoping for a new contract at Ibrox.

"I've had tentative talks with Lee, but it's not gone any further than that," Locke told BBC Scotland.

"He would give me a playing and a coaching option."

McCulloch was Rangers' captain and was integral to their defence as they won League Two, League One and then missed out on promotion to the Premiership this season.

But new Rangers manager Mark Warburton has already signed Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan to bolster his back four.

Kilmarnock manager Gary Locke Gary Locke is looking for an assistant manager at Kilmarnock

"He is waiting to see what happens at Rangers before making any decision," stressed Lock.

"If they make him an offer, I suspect he'll stay there." Boyd scored 10 goals in 43 appearances in his second spell at Ibrox after ending his second term with Kilmarnock.

However, the 31-year-old fell out of favour at the end of the season under Stuart McCall.

"It's no secret that I am looking for a striker and I've been keen on Kris for some time," said Locke.

"We start back training on Monday and I would like to add to the squad as soon as possible.

"I am also looking at striker from England who I have looked at several times and who could do a job for us."

Please tell me that jig is just a deluded arsehole.. surely Warburton would not make a mistake of that magnitude

If the new management team brought back Jig they could cost the club thousands of season tickets, so I doubt it's even on the cards. Jig's just not in hurry to sign for another club because Rangers made him a millionaire. He's a 37 year old who's so rich he doesn't need to work.

I've liked, despised, liked then despised Jig as a player.

Filed under 'Ally' now as far as I'm concerned.

I still don't understand why he was moved back to defence as I thought he was causing teams a lot of problems as a striker. As a defender he was causing Rangers a lot of problems.

Thought he did fine for Rangers till he went to centre-half, don't have a problem with McCulloch.

We wasted about £9 million on him. A very limited player at his peak, an absolutely awful one in recent seasons.

Just think how far that could have gone if spent on scouting or youth development. Instead it was money down the drain as usual.

Neither do I but he is now passed his sell buy date and probably went on a season too long for us. It is easy to make him a scapegoat for the other players that let the team down and there were many.
