ian1964 10,457 Posted July 20, 2015 Share Posted July 20, 2015 Nadir Ciftci will miss Celtic's opening six Premiership matches after being found guilty of biting Jim McAlister in last season's Dundee derby. The 23-year-old striker was given an eight-match ban with two suspended until the end of the season for "excessive misconduct". The Turk moved to Celtic from Dundee United for £1.5m earlier this month. The penalty was decided by a judicial panel convened by the Scottish FA after Ciftci denied the offence. I note his ban is NOT applicable in the up coming Championship League qualifiers. Thus, Nadir can sink his teeth into any player from Iceland to Azerbaijan. Should be banned from all competitions for at least ten games I would seriously just permanently ban any player who bites another. Ciftci, 23, will miss Celtic's opening six Premiership matches after being found guilty of biting Jim McAlister in last season's Dundee derby. "We all learn from our mistakes and hopefully it won't happen again," said Celtic assistant boss Collins. Ciftci, who will not appeal against the ban, is available for European games. The striker has travelled with Celtic to Reykjavik ahead of their Champions League qualifier against Stjarnan. And speaking at Glasgow Airport, Collins said the player and the club were ready to move on from the incident. "We're obviously disappointed for Nadir and ourselves," he said. "But the decision has been made and we just have to move on. We'll wait on him coming back. "It happened with his previous club and we knew the hearing was yesterday [Monday]. We just had to wait for the decision being made; we move on and he moves on. "We all learn from our mistakes and hopefully it won't happen again." Asked whether the club condones such behaviour, Collins said: "No, not at all. We want our players to be competitive but within the laws of the game." The ban was decided by a panel convened by the Scottish Football Association after Ciftci denied the offence. Referee Bobby Madden took no action at the time. Following the match, the Tannadice club accused Dundee players of "quite severe physical and totally unacceptable verbal provocation" towards Ciftci.
