Ajax held FK Jablonec away 0-0 to qualify 1-0 on agg.

Standard Liege 3-1Molde - agg 3-3 Molde win on away goals rule

The draw sees them in with the above two and Turkish side Fenerbahce who beat Atromitos of Greece 3-0 (4-0 agg)

No European football for them after Xmas by the looks of it. :drum:

Interesting draw for them. I'm curious to see how they do against Ajax. We're quick to suggest Dutch sides play better football and are a level above, so it'll be interesting to see the gap; or if indeed there is one.

Celtic call in security back-up to keep fans safe in 'powderkeg' Europa League group

AJAX and Fenerbahce could spell trouble for the travelling support according to Hoops security chief Ronnie Hawthorne.

CELTIC are planning a security crackdown after being dropped into a powderkeg Europa League group yesterday.

Ronny Deila’s side have been drawn against Dutch giants Ajax and Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

It set alarm bells ringing at Parkhead where officials are well aware of the notorious reputation of the opposing fans.

Celtic security chief Ronnie Hawthorne has been tasked with keeping the club’s travelling support safe in Amsterdam in three weeks’ time, and in Istanbul in December.

He said: “I wouldn’t wish to go into the details of what happened the last time in Amsterdam but there are lessons which need to be learned.

“We will try to get as much information to our travelling support as we can.

“It’s about keeping our fans safe. We want them to travel safely and enjoy the match.”

When Celtic fans visited Amsterdam in 2013, they were repeatedly ambushed by Ajax casuals before the Champions League clash.

Dutch police were accused of heavy-handed tactics after riot cops with dogs and horses waded in and several Celtic supporters ended up behind bars.

An organised gang targeted Celtic fans in Dam Square, throwing missiles and jeering, before riot police and plain-clothes officers were deployed.

The night before, Celtic fans in Amsterdam’s Old Sailor pub were besieged by masked thugs with pickaxe handles.

Turkish football has been blighted by violence for years.

In 2012, hundreds of Fenerbahce fans clashed with Turkish police and occupied the pitch after an explosive title match against arch rivals Galatasaray went against them.

Police had to use their shields to protect Galatasaray players at Fenerbahce’s Sukru Saracoglu stadium and used pepper spray on rioters.

Outside, Fenerbahce fans overturned two police vehicles and set them on fire.

Hawthorne said: “I would like to get the message across that Celtic fans travel well. But we have to make sure everyone is aware of policing styles and how they might vary around Europe.”

Police said thousands of Celtic fans were likely to head to Amsterdam.

Chief Superintendent Andy Bates said: “There will be a significant policing operation and we will be liaising with our Dutch counterparts to ensure fans enjoy the event for the right reasons.”

Celtic fan Damian Dobbin, 25, ended up in jail in Holland after getting caught up in trouble at the last Ajax game.
