Championship side Brentford have announced that they have fired head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen and his assistant Roy Hendriksen. Lee Carsley has been named the new head coach and will hold the role until at least the end of the season. Dijkhuizen, a 43-year-old Dutchmen, only took charge of Brentford in the summer, but has lost his job after just eight games. The Bees have eight points so far and are currently 19th, just a point above the drop zone, ahead of Tuesday's game at home to Birmingham, which will be Carsley's first in charge. Brentford lost in cruel fashion on Saturday, beaten 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday at Griffin Park when they conceded a last-minute winner, having fought back from a goal down despite having been reduced to 10 men. A club statement on Monday morning read: "Brentford Football Club can confirm that the club, Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen, and his assistant, Roy Hendriksen, have parted company. "The club would like to put on record its thanks to Marinus and Roy for all their efforts during their time at Griffin Park. "Lee Carsley has been promoted to head coach until the end of the season, when the position will be reviewed. "Lee has vast experience of the English game and has hugely impressed with his work with the club's Development Squad. He will be assisted by Paul Williams. "The club believes Lee deserves the opportunity to step up and help shape Brentford FC's future on the pitch "Chairman Cliff Crown will update supporters via the Brentford FC website this afternoon." Former Excelsior manager Dijkhuizen arrived at Griffin Park after the controversial departure of Mark Warburton, who guided the Bees to promotion from League One and then into the Championship play-offs, but his contract was not renewed due to a difference of opinion with owner Matthew Benham over the future direction of the team.
