FORMER Rangers owner Craig Whyte has appeared in court over allegations that he participated in a large scale fraud during his time at the club.

The 45-year-old businessman was present at the High Court in Edinburgh today with finance professional David Grier, 55.

Grier, of London, worked for Duff and Phelps, the company who were appointed administrators of the Glaswegian side following its collapse in February 2012.

Prosecutors allege the two men and another male called Gary Withey, 52, participated in criminal behaviour during their involvement with Rangers.

Withey, of Woking, Surrey, wasn't present in court today.

Whyte, of Banks, Lancashire, was in charge when the club went into administration in February 2012 and when it was liquidated in July 2012.

At court today, judge Lord Bannatyne heard lawyers on matters which cannot be reported for legal reasons.

After a legal matter arose during proceedings, Lord Bannatyne fixed a date for judges at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh to consider the issue.

The issue also cannot be reported at this stage.

Appeal judges will consider the issue during a three day hearing between May 11 to May 13 2016.

The case will then call at a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on June 3, 2016.

Administration didn't finish til October 2012 after which the liquidation process began and is continuing to this day.

What was liquidated in July 2012?

That is the one half-fact lie, the other that they specifically say:

Whyte, of Banks, Lancashire, was in charge when the club went into administration in February 2012 and when it was liquidated in July 2012.

If you tell a lie often enough, it becomes folk-lore and sticks in the minds. Which is probably their aim. BUT, as a paper and journalists they have not only freedom of press and speech and whatever, but also responsibilities. Sometimes, a lawyer or two needs to tell them that. There is a reason why they hardly ever spout similar rubbish about the Scum.

Oldco is in liquidation.

OK, there's a difference between being in liquidation with a commencement of winding up and actually having been liquidated but it's not something I'd expect the man in the street or your average sports journalist to be aware of.

As long as it is not liquidated you still have the chance to pull it out of Liquidation . If the axe has fallen there can be no point of return. I would imagine it is that way anyway.

A paper has to be more responsible and don't spread "the club was liquidated" lie. Same with "re-formed", "relegated", "send to", "demoted to", "134m debt" et al. If some journo outside Scotland "googles" for Rangers and administration, they will come up with "closer to the thing" Scottish articles filled with these half-truths and lies and will believe it (as it fills pages since 2012). And they will use it in their coverage halfway accross the globe. See this one from AP ...

Rangers beats Celtic to reach cup final as rivalry resumes

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Fallen Scottish power Rangers marked the latest stage in its recovery by beating Glasgow rival Celtic 5-4 on penalties to reach the Scottish Cup final on Sunday. Already preparing for its return to the Scottish Premiership next season, victory for Rangers in a match that finished 2-2 after extra time means it now has a shot at a first major title since winning the top flight in 2011. The following year Rangers was forced into liquidation in 2012 with tax debts exceeding $30 million and the re-formed club had to start again in the fourth tier, the country's lowest professional league.

Which is why we should fight the constant lies from the Scottish media.
