colinstein 294
Think he's proving his critics wrong who say he can't defend. He's put in solid performances at the back so far this season. The cost has been he's not bombing up the wing to attack so much. Looks like Warburton has changed his game plan there and Tavs has taken more responsibility defending. Yes its noticeable he's tightened up his game and isn't so attacking. That said, he was out of position for the goal conceded on Saturday and was unable to get back to prevent the cross that resulted in the goal. I think this is a weakness teams will look to exploit
ian1964 10,720
Tavernier gets more criticism for his defending than Wallace does yet Wallace is not a great defender either!. Tav has tightened up but also it's clear he has been concentrating getting more crosses into the box

stewarty 2,007
He was left stranded by poor play in midfield, was he not ? Happy to be corrected - I was in the Copland so didn't get the best perspective on the lead up to the goal. Not had a chance to see any replays.
limeburner 0
Agree,he is looking more solid defence wise,Knowing Hodson is there as back up is also keeping him more focused perhaps.
craig 5,199
He's definitely improved defensively and that could easily be simply because he isn't getting caught upfield as much - but could also be because we have better cover in defensive midfield with Barton & Rossiter both covering the fullbacks well when they advance.
Frankie 8,552
Tavernier has had a fine start to the season and really is a key player for us.
D'Artagnan 173
There is no doubt both our full backs have been a lot less cavalier coming forward than last season. Im not sure yet whether I like this more defensive approach.
colinstein 294
I suppose the best full backs can read the game and know when they've got enough cover to go for it. Think that's something Tavs might be learning
