Cup Final carnage: Rangers yob boot boy jailed for horror Hampden head kick

Recommended Posts

A THUG who booted a rival in the head during the Scottish Cup Final riot was caged for four months yesterday.

Rangers yob Craig Wojtowycz, 24, was also banned from matches for two years after he lashed out at a Hibs supporter on the Hampden turf.

It’s believed the shamed amateur player is the first hooligan jailed over the pitch brawl — as cops nicked six more suspects yesterday.

A source said: “This sends out a clear message to troublemakers who got involved in the violence.

“There must be a lot of worried people out there.”

Wojtowycz, of Tranent, East Lothian, pleaded guilty to assaulting the Hibee supporter as he lay on the pitch.

The Haddington Athletic star admitted racing onto the park and fighting with Easter Road diehards after the final whistle.

He also confessed to kicking and damaging an advertising hoarding at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday.

Craig Wojtowycz's Facebook page shows snaps of him playing for various clubs and holding trophies aloft.

One shot shows him standing on the Hampden surface with silverware.

In another pic he makes a derogatory comment inside Celtic Park wearing his Light Blues scarf.

Yesterday the number of arrests over the showpiece rammy on May 21 hit 76.

A boy of 17 and five men — 20, 22, 29, 39 and 46 — were all due to appear at the court.

There could also be more as officers continue to investigate the violence.

Thousands of the Edinburgh team’s followers flocked on to the turf after they won the coveted trophy for the first time in 114 years.

But fighting broke out between rivals after the 3-2 triumph.

An SFA probe into the riot said the vast majority of Hibs fans ran on the pitch in a spirit of jubilation — but the chaos was caused by “no more than 200” louts.

It said some “accosted” Rangers players and officials, in incidents including the hurling of “obscene language and sectarian abuse”.

Edward Bowen QC’s report also found the vast majority of Gers fans behaved correctly and left the national stadium — but “a small number allowed themselves to be taunted” and invaded the pitch for “physical confrontation”.

Do you see how they reported that. Rangers Yob a couple of times over but Hibs are only named as a victim. When it comes to talking about the invasion it is the Edinburgh team which does not stick in your mind as much as Hibs would.

So this is made to look like Hibs were a victim.
