FORMER Rangers midfielder Ian Black could be set to join English National League side

FORMER Rangers midfielder Ian Black could be set to join English National League outfit Tranmere Rovers.

The Scotland international has fallen out of the picture at Shrewsbury Town and hasn’t featured for the English League One side this year.

And he’s wanted by his former manager Micky Mellon, who signed him for Shrewsbury when he left Rangers two years ago.

The 31-year-old spent three seasons at Ibrox after signing from Hearts in 2012 and won a Scotland cap under Craig Levein, where he was booed after coming on as a sub against Australia.

But he was a controversial figure at Rangers and was suspended and fined £7,500 after admitting breaches of SFA rules on betting on matches in 2013.

Ambitious Merseyside outfit Tranmere are desperate to return to the Football League and Mellon wants to snap up the ex-Caley Thistle and Blackburn Rovers combative midfielder.

Perhaps he's found his level at last.

He came to us when we were down and out ... and hardly anyone else answered our call. People may say it was for money or his shot at gory, but that's their opinion. He helped us through tier 4 and 3, almost tier 2 as well. He was not a class act, but always gave 100% of what an Ian Black had to offer. Others did not muster that and let us down far more regularly.

It is history, but I for one won't say a bad word about players helping us in our hour of need.

Im not at all convinced he gave 100 percent.

If hes was deary me.

Super should never have signed him or the players like him but super had no faith in his own ability so bought far to high up the chain. That and rangers fans lack of patience led to years wasted.

He joined us to play in an easy league where he was paid a fortune. He was a terrible signing and should have been sacked immediately when it became known he was betting against us. The fact we kept him sums us up at that time. The end.

Ally told me that the biggest problem he had was trying to attract players to come and play in the 3rd and 4th divisions, whatever the money.

Some players like Kyle should never have been signed but you have to remember that Black and Law for example were experienced SPL players who started well but ultimately were dragged down to a low level rather than dragging us up to a higher level.

Got to give him a bit of credit for signing when we were down there but he is obviously a bit of a tool. He had nothing more than flashes of decent play. He may be a contender to make it into Rangers worst XI with the likes of Kyle and Sandaza.
