Jong PSV - Rangers FC U20

Recommended Posts

Could have been a goal-feast given the chances missed. Exactly the environment our youth chaps should face to hone their skills and become better players.

Wonder where Hardie was today ... and now I know it.

Young PSV play 2nd division NL league football which gives them a huge advantage imo. Rangers should have a team in the lower leagues in Scotland.

What level is that on the league ladder?

Poor finishing from both sides on display, should have finished 7-3. Here's the thing for us to figure out, if those two teams met five years ago at under 15 level the teams would have been much closer, indeed the Rangers side might well have been better. What happens to our players between the ages of 15 to 19 that doesn't happen to the Dutch (or the Italians, the Germans, the French, the Croatians....)? They've got just as many 'cultural distractions' in Holland as Scotland.

Sorry the second tier. The Netherlands only has 2 professional levels. De Ere divisie and the Juplier league.

So as you can see Young(Jong) PSV, Ajax, AZ, and Utrecht all play in that league. They can become champion but wii not be promoted to the Ere divisie. Jong Ajax finished second last season to VVV where Zelalem went to. I am not sure how often he played.

That's interesting. Are they competitive, generally speaking? I need to look into this further! It must help development; Spanish sides do the same and both are known as being the best at producing young players.

I think GZ has developed an attitude problem - 9 games (and 1 goal!?) last season according to Wikipedia.

I see Jong Ajax and Jong PSV have been finishing mid-table over the last few seasons, which is quite impressive; 2nd and 4th last season is really impressive. That can only benefit the first team.

They looked a good team but we seemed to lack organisation at the back and in central midfield.

I see Rossiter scored in our second game which was a 2-2 each draw with Wolves.

Surely the same thing can be achieved by putting the players out on loan in the second tier? There's a lot of opposition to 'reserve' sides in the lower leagues and I can sympathise with it. In end it can't just be about playing regular football, there must be more to it than that. Ryan Hardie has played 50 senior first team games and scored 18 goals, a decent return by any measurement, yet looks further from our first team than ever now. A 20 year old, six foot 2 inch 'natural' goal scorer who has been in our system for years should be getting the side built around him, yet would any of us be surprised if he was released in the next 12 months?

It's really frustrating, what are we doing wrong? McKay was going the same way until Warburton arrived, is it all down to belief and being given a chance? Surely not.
