Ex-Mexico international slams former Rangers boss Caixinha

Former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has a new job after his Ibrox exit... but it has started controversially, just like his spell in Glasgow ended.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Pedro Caixinha was fired by Rangers in October after a disappointing few months in charge at Ibrox.

Caixinha saw Rangers record their worst ever European result, and was fired after losing a Scottish League Cup semi-final, with the team fourth in the league.

He landed his first post-Rangers job this week, taking over at Mexican side Cruz Azul. So far it has begun similarly to how his Ibrox stint ended.

After clashing with Rangers veteran Kenny Miller, Caixinha has begun his Cruz Azul tenure by deciding to axe veteran Cristian 'Chaco' Gimenez.

Cruz Azul's Christian Gimenez

Gimenez has been at the club since 2010 and is 36-years-old. Goal Mexico reported that the club captain was simply not in Caixinha's plans.

Mexican publication Mundo Hispanico slammed Caixinha for 'humiliating' the 'last idol of Cruz Azul'.

The controversial manager has however been called out by former Mexico international Braulio Luna, who played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups.

Luna blasted Caixinha on Twitter, declaring that he was incapable of dealing with veteran players.

He wrote: "Upon learning that Caixhina was the one going to Cruz Azul, the Chaco was struck. He does not like veteran players, he does not like to deal with them, he does not like others having control over the group, if he can avoid them. Go, or the less you have the better."

Luna's comments will feel familiar to Rangers fans, and Miller, 38, has come back into the team and made an impact since Caixinha's departure.

Argentine star Gimenez will not have the same luxury at Cruz Azul, with Caixinha's reign only just getting started.

I think axing a veteran is one of the toughest things to do, but if a club is to move on, it's important to get a manager who realises it and does it for the benefit of the wider group (even if they sometimes don't appreciate it at the time). Reading books by Guardiola, Ferguson and Ancelotti was insightful about this subject. Despite them all being respected managers, they all suffered dressing room unrest after axing a players' favourite, or one who had influence. If it was hard for them with established reputations, PC is going to have to find a way of managing it better, because he no such reputation. Let's face it, we all know Miller hasn't kicked a ball (despite scoring a couple of goals) in a long long time. He shouldn't be in the squad, never mind the starting 11. Murty has had his tests already, but if he had confidence that he had the position longer term, would he drop Miller? Luckily for him, although sadly for Miller, it looks like GM won't have to make the difficult decision with Miller being out injured now.

Well, the chap has 17 games and 1 goal to his name thus far. In contrast, Mr. Mora has 10 in 22 games. That said, Gimenez is an attacking MF rather than a striker. But as has been said, Miller needed to be dropped and we hardly know how the "Last Idol" actually performed.

When you read ...

... you know from which direction the wind is blowing. Miller was his usual self (1 good game in 5) when PC dropped him, and while he sure works his socks off and has chances to score, after the Hearts game he has gone 7 games without an assist or goal, which simply ain't good enough for a supposed central striker, no matter his name and standing. For at that rate, he is a luxury we can't exactly afford right now.
