I would guess that managers become initially interested potential players based on stats that are put in front of them - and Morelos' stats are generally better than either of the Ceptic pair. Despite the fact he came straight from Brazil, without a post season break, he hit the ground at Vicarage Road running, and played very well for the first part of the season. Thereafter his form/performances tailed off. I am not comparing the players in ability, or even in the position in which they play, and, I agree that the English League is a more testing environment, but is this not vaguely reminiscent of the fluctuating form of Alfredo Morelos? The player Watford signed is called Richarlison, and he has moved to Everton for around £50M. Everton has suggested that it overpayed somewhat, but even so, it saw enough in the first part of the season to acquire his services. He has started the season well, and I, for one, will watch his progress, or otherwise, with interest. The point is that many people were prepared to write off Richarlison as a flash in the pan, as many here are prepared to do with Morelos, because of a poor second half of the season. My own feeling is that it is foolish to rush to judgement, either +ve, or -ve, of players on the evidence of one season, particularly, when, as with Richarlison and Morelos, they, unsurprisingly, began to look jaded after a season and a half without a break. When we add in other factors likely, perhaps, to affect Morelos - the Chinese megabucks offer, the poor management, for example- then we may conclude that a drop in form was inevitable. It is to early to judge Morelos, and, it is, in consequence, to early to put a value on him. I should say that there are two ways of looking at this and they are not necesarily congruent, or even, in some cases, close: -what another club is willing to pay -what he is worth to Rangers (replacement cost, primarily, but other things like image rights, contribution to off field earnings, and intangibles) Personally, I like the player, and he reminds me a little of Maurice Johnston. He does score goals, and his work rate is exemplary. I do not think he should be sold, certainly not now. There may be a risk in retaining his services, and his value to others may not enhance. Actually, I suspect that it will increase, and, after all, a bird in the hand, and so forth. Morelos only cost us £1m because of the level he was playing at. However, bottom line.........it's about how the mgmt team see it, do they trust him, would they prefer someone else. It's fair to say his indiscipline may have already cost us two points. He was found not guilty(not sure of a better term?). It was the refs indiscipline that cost us two points. He was backed by SG at the time and through the appeal. Haven't seen us mention needing a forward at all. Management have spoke of CB needed etc but have never mentioned concerns regarding Morelos or goals. Lafferty will play wide in my opinion and battle with murphy/Kent and candiese for games while also giving back up until Sadiq is fit enough in a month or so. At 21 Andy Cole only managed 12 in 29 games in the second tier. Ally McCoist managed 8 in 30. By 23/24 years old each one of the above had hit 34 top league goals in a season. Morelos scored 14 in 38 league games aged 21. We could have a 30+ goal striker on our hands if we hold on to him and develop his goalscoring.
