Football Leaks claims Euro Super League talks held by clubs

Recommended Posts

'Top European clubs have held secret talks to create a European Super League, according to a report by German publication Der Spiegel.

The newspaper claims leaked documents show the breakaway league could be created in 2021 and see clubs involved leave their national leagues and football associations...........

......

Der Spiegel claims Real Madrid has joined forces with AC Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester United to form a group of seven sides who went behind the back of Uefa, European football's governing body, to discuss forming a European Super League.

As part of their plans, the clubs allegedly discussed "an option for leaving the national leagues and their football associations behind entirely"..............

.........

The so-called founders, who would include the seven clubs named above along with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Paris St-Germain, would not face relegation and would be guaranteed membership for 20 years.

Der Spiegel reports that the five "initial guests," according to the document, would be Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Marseille and Roma.............'

Their leagues are members to UEFA who is a member of FIFA.

Should the clubs do this without the consent of the associations, or indeed UEFA, they can very declare any player involved with these clubs being banned from any other international competition.

As per usual, the big ones and UEFA will trash out some sort of big money agreement ... like they did with raping the European competitions of old to suit the big clubs' and "leading nations' agenda.

Probably the most likely outcome.

It's just a reflection of the damaging general culture of absolute greed that has the few using disproportionate power and influence to ensure ever more money flows upwards.

In this particular case, I'd be tempted to call their bluff because I don't think such a limited field would hold punters interest and it might see a general move to basically say...'f**k them' let's support the more competitive football that would be left.

... they had one of Bayern's lawyers on TV last night as part of the Spiegel documentary, one who is behind this initiative. He was all fire and flame for this, saying that if all goes according to plan, the clubs will be able to control nigh anything and will get the best deals possible to maximize income. Aye right ... (you really do wonder in what spheres these people live and and what he means by maximizing income: its not that they get peanuts these days).

These aren't prmarily football clubs anymore, they are large corporations with a focus on growing their business.

Cue the Scottish media falling over themselves to reserve a place for Celtic.

The big clubs will note the results the Yahoos had these days ... and possibly look at us and see Steven Gerrard and the decision will be easy. But IMHO, Scottish teams don't rank that high on their exclusive club list anyway.

And if some of the big internet providers decide to show football then it will be a worldwide league instead of forking out a lot of money to sky and bt we might get it for a couple of pounds per game as far ad uefa and fifa are concerned the teams will be telling them whos in charge they will fall into line and do as they are told by their betters ?
