Rangers and Wigan Athletic have moved closer to agreeing the transfer of Scotland international Lee McCulloch to the Scottish Premier League club.

Talks are taking place between the clubs about the 28-year-old forward, BBC Sport understands.

Rangers had a £750,000 offer for the player rejected by the English Premier League outfit in January.

But McCulloch recently told BBC Sport he would relish the opportunity to move to the Glasgow club.

McCulloch, who joined Wigan from Motherwell in 2001, is under contract to the Latics until 2009.

Agree with the other posters on another thread, at 28 he would be a good asset for 4-5 years. He can play left mid or upfront and Smith knows him well.

Ive rated him whevever he has played for Scotland so Im happy we will be getting him. To score goals for a small team like Wigan in the Premiership along with some assists means he is doing something right.

I wonder if the McCulloch fee will include Webster? Makes sense to try and come to a deal for the pair of them surely?

Mike, according to the Mirror today Whelan want 2.5 for both players.

I think it does. I read on the BBC rumours page that Wigan will only sell McCulloch if we take Webster on loan too.

Wigan are ready to sell striker Lee McCulloch to Rangers - as long as they agree to take defender Andy Webster too. (Daily Mirror)
