Sick of doom and gloom? I am.

I don't blame anyone for being frustrated with the negativity so it is refreshing to see some positives being pointed out.

October is going to certainly offer clarity one way or the other. Bad CL results can be explained away but bad performances, awful attitudes and any further points dropped domestically will see the more positive stuff quickly become forgotten.

It's one thing highlighting the negative aspects of our season so far and it's right these things are debated but when it turns into wallowing in exaggerated pessimism it actually becomes part of the problem. Some of the stuff recently has been out of all proportion to our position and overall progress. Claiming the league is already lost in the middle of September is ridiculous.

GVB has ruined a very positive summer very quickly.

he could in fairness get us back on track very quickly but i doubt he will

To be fair to GvB some of the malaise we have seen in this group of players were present before he arrived. After 55 it seems many of the players and now departed coaching staff lost that appetite. The LC Semi v Hibs was a prime example.

This squad IMO is enough to win v Hearts next week. Its enough to beat any team in Scotland on its day. Come the end of the season we will need a lot of work done on it. Not sure Gio will be the man to do that work but he has from here till then to prove it.

For what it's worth. If there are grievances or a loss of morale among the players and it has been left to fester to the extent it's affecting results then my attention also focusses on the captain and the other senior players. They have a clear responsibility for seeing things like that don't happen and, if they do, to see they are addressed. There's a limit to what players can do but what they can do is still significant. In this, the captain has a designated responsibility and if it turns out he's doing less than he should then GvB isn't the only one whose role should be questioned.
