Like all tactical styles it's based on what has gone before: Guardiola's style is based on the ideas of Cruyff and Michels, which was based on the Hungarian golden team, which in turn was based on the early Scottish passing game. Tbf I've heard of relationism and Fluminese using it. I'm pretty sure Guardiola and Madrid incorporate aspects of it into their game too. Although Guardiola is still more positional than relationist.
