Who should be the new manager?

Recommended Posts

The rumours it is Gerrard are getting stronger and stronger from so called in the know people. The problem I have with Gerrard is he doesn't/didn't want to base himself in Glasgow. That is not ideal.

Fulham manager Marco Silva is supposedly set to leave at the end of the season, just saying. Also another German coach along with Rose could be Joachim Low who is credited for modernising possession and attacking play football in Germany , whilst also taking the national team to the final with a young squad.

Silva is wanted in Saudi by Al Hilal. Inzaghi is their first choice but have offered Silva the job if Inzaghi doesnt take it. Spurs are also linked with him.

I know most find it difficult to get past his time as a player for us, but surely, out of the names being discussed most recently - outwith Marco Rose - Martin is the best candidate?

I've still got an issue with his inflexibility. I think you said that was because the players didn't follow his instructions (?) but if so,  that's an issue in itself.

I'd be worried that he'd be another Gio/Clement who could do it in Europe but not in Scotland.

That was only one instance of 3 or 4 examples covered on that episode of MNF. The main issue was So'ton just didn't have the quality - proven by the fact that the next manager, Juric, who was much more pragmatic, had an even worse record.

I think you're getting too hung up on 'inflexibility.' I mentioned how he changed set-up depending on the opposition from that same MNF episode. He has also adapted to the players at his disposal at MK Dons and Swansea.

He has a philosophy (possession-based) that will remain the same, but that's the same for every manager nowadays. A truly flexible manager doesn't really exist anymore, as they just don't match up to those teams that specialise - outwith Ancelotti, and even he has been trounced by teams with well-oiled philosophies, both in the past and recently, which is why he'll be leaving Madrid this summer (it looks like they will be going with Alonso, someone who does have a recognisable philosophy).

My main concern would be that the fans may find his style boring.
