Who better to advise/recommend/give a heads up on up and coming Brazilian players to an up and coming manager in Europe? Just a thought. Another thought (oh, yes, there was a distinct rattle in the old napper this am): everyone talks about a profitable player development and trading model, which is important -vital, even- but if Ancelotti Minor is appointed, and is successful, it is likely he will be offski to higher status, more lucrative, pastures. How quickly would depend on his actual, and perceived, successes. (In fact, this would be true of any manager/coach.) Hence, there is, surely, a requirement to develop coaches: smooth, seamless, controlled, transitions being preferable to crunching the gearbox. It may be necessary, through failure, to redd out the off field staff, but, of course, the Club is in control of that kind of process, which it wouldn't be when some 'super club' offers to treble salaries, unless a line of succession is in place. Ancelotti is the bookies' strong favourite this morning, at 1/3. Of course, Stevie G was that price 10 days, or a fortnight, or so, ago. He eventually won the league, bless him, in propitious circumstances, failed to take advantage of that in the following season, left suddenly and failed in Brum and Saudi. Rangers need somebody who has been round the track, can command the players, get the team to a league championship and consolidate on success. When that’s been done, bring in a maestro. Interesting that he has given the board and the new SD a warning around timescales a few times. He is really stressing a sense of urgency around getting ready for the CL qualifiers.
