L72 332 Posted yesterday at 11:07 Author Share Posted yesterday at 11:07 (edited) Actually looking at that list of goalscorers, notice how many of them lot are on it? This is where our problems really are. Not enough players getting on the score sheet from other areas. In the "top 20" performing goalscorers in Scotland, they've got 8 players on the table. By comparison we have three. Edited yesterday at 11:09 by L72

By comparison we have three. You can play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 all day long, if you have the players who can perform in this system. We never had these players since the time it was introduced, shoehorned centre-forwards into roles not theirs, and played it no matter of the opposition. Every now and then, a player aside from the (as in: one) centre-forward weighed in with a hatful of goals, Sima, Kent, Tillman, Tavernier, Cerny etc. but it was not enough. We did not adapt to these realities and suffered the consequences. They not only had the money, but also got enough solid players to fulfil the job that was required. Maybe not in Europe, but surely in Scotland. As was said elsewhere, dislike them or him as you want, Ange came in, saw what was needed, got e.g. these Japanese in, and they ran away with the silverware. And the reaction of us (well most) was not debating the system which is utterly unsuitable for the Scottish game, but going after this or that striker, who did not convert 75+ % of the chances he got. If he would, he would not play for Rangers in this day and age. What we needed and need for "modern" football is a striker who scores 20+ per season, and three+ players behind him who come up with 10+ each too. In the league! But as of May 6th ... Dessers (52 games) 25 goals + 12 assists Cerny (49) 17 + 8 Igamane (43) 14 + 5 ... and Danilo, Diomande and Lawrence with 6 goals each. Like in the days of Morelos, one striker was asked to carry the team, and if he didn't come up with all (as in: ALL) the goods, we were screwed. This needs to be addressed. And not by signing a potential 30+ goals striker, but by getting attackers who score ... and play them all in a system suitable to break Scottish brick walls.

The season we won #55 was the best football I've ever seen us playing, the cohesion, movement, pressing and passing was absolutely outstanding, none of that team had reached that level before that season, and I'm not sure any have since. It can be done, but you then need to build on it. Edited yesterday at 12:31 by Devil's advocaat

buster. 5,719
Morelos scored 52 in his first two seasons. The second of those seasons he reached 18 league goals. Eighteen was his best tally, the next best being 14. Dessers has scored 51 League goals 23/24: 16 24/25: 18 As it stands Dressers not only is top of this season's SPFL Top Tier goalscorers but is top of the last two seasons combined. Gribz 1,324
Morelos had an all round better game. Dessers has an all round better attitude and professionalism by a mile.
