Beckham to captain England

Recommended Posts

Nah, it is only a friendly though, right ? It is no doubt just recognition for him getting 100 caps.

I would be more worried as an England fan if he was captain in a WC qualifier.

Great move from Capello. Everyone knows what Beckham gives the team and I'm 110% positive the younger players will look upto him too.

Agreed, i think its a brilliant move from him as well. Beckham is a born leader, wears the gersey with pride. As much as i hate England, i think this is a good decision

How can it possibly be a good long term decision??

And he played James in goal last night, what can he learn from that! Surely Rob Green should have been in.

We all need to remember the reasoning for this match in the first place.

Yeah, it's Trinidad and Tobago's centenary but that's not the main reason. Jack Warner is the vice president of FIFA, the president of CONCACAF (the region in which North/Central America and Carribean sides represent in World Cup qualifying and so on), and is also an MP in Trinidad and Tobago. Most importantly, he himself decides who CONCACAF vote for to get the World Cup in 2018.. which England are bidding for.

That's the main reason. So Beckham was made captain for this one off game for PR purposes as much as anything.

Must say, when you think about it.. brilliant move by England.

It just shows you corruption is involved in football at the highest level. Beckham was picked purely to attract numbers and not for a footballing reason. - Disgrace IMO. if there is 1 thing that gets you away from the problems and corruption of the world then its football.........

That's exactly what it's all about. But I have always admired Beckham, he's a player who has worked hard to overcome his limitations and is someone all professional footballers should look up to.
