OFFICIAL Rangers appoint Russell Martin as head coach

dear computer i neber watched tav play so plz tell me why he is rubbish -
I gave ChatGPT that list and said who do you think had the easiest time scoring goals from RB. From the list of the 10 highest-scoring defenders in football history, James Tavernier likely had the easiest time scoring goals from the right-back (RB) position. Why James Tavernier? Primarily Tavernier has taken all penalties and set pieces for Rangers FC, as well as actually consistently playing the position of RB over others on this list. For example, Ronald Koeman (Barcelona) played large portions of his career at right-midfield (RM) as well as others like Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid) who played several times throughout his career at right-mid, and Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) who scored a lot of his goals from centre-back (CB). The level of competition throughout a changing football landscape should also be considered: Level of Competition Faced: Players like Koeman, Ramos, Hierro, Blanc, Roberto Carlos, and Breitner played in La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 widely considered among the most competitive leagues in the world, both historically and presently. These leagues regularly feature elite attackers, tactically sophisticated teams, and high-pressure matches. European & International Competitions: Most of these defenders consistently played Champions League, World Cups, and continental tournaments (Euro, Copa América), facing top-tier opposition. James Tavernier’s Environment: Scottish Premiership: Tavernier plays for Rangers FC, a dominant club in the Scottish Premiership, which is not on par with the top 5 European leagues in terms of defensive organization, pace, or overall talent. Rangers often dominate possession in domestic matches, giving Tavernier many chances to push forward. Role and Freedom: At Rangers, Tavernier has a very attacking-oriented role, with lots of license to bomb forward, take penalties, and be involved in set pieces—opportunities that would be far more limited in elite European teams. Final Assessment: James Tavernier is a phenomenal goal-scoring right-back, but his statistics have been boosted by playing in a less competitive league where his team dominates most matches. In contrast, other defenders on this list scored in tougher environments, often against higher-quality opposition. That doesn't diminish Tavernier’s achievement it just adds important context.

Again, I don't give a damn about his personal accolades, but if you want to harp on about how many goals he has, bear in mind that we also include goals from the lower leagues in that total. Not sure many of the highest scoring best defenders in the world did that 🙄 I've also no hatred for him - you're right it's pointless continuing this debate because with all due respect, you keep on making up shite in your head - and I've never said that he is the sole reason for all of our failures. Said numerous times throughout the thread, he has contributed to that failure, and in my opinion been a poor captain and shouldn't continue as such and perhaps be a bench player going forward. The ideal scenario would be he left/is sold. Doesn't mean I hate him.

We are not going to need a new captain because Tav is not going anywhere

10th top scoring defender in the history of football. I know, if he was a good player, he'd be higher up that list....... Your hatred of the Rangers captain is irrational especially when you've admitted he isn't the main reason for our failure. No point in debating as you've made your mind up, but in all due respect, you're talking manure. -

Jobe Bellingham following in his brothers footsteps as looks likely to sign for Dortmund. -
He absolutely is. He's been a huge contributor to what? Our second place runs? Runners up medals? The odd majority trophy here and there? We never signed anyone too dislodge him. The reason he has been automatic starter is because he was given the captaincy and no one took it off of him.. This revisionism is shite, Tavs time at Rangers, for the club, hasn't returned any trophies. In future when we look back at his time and see three trophies next to his name, I wonder if next generations will be in awe, or not bother at all.

Because he isn't - he's been a huge contributor since the day he arrived. That doesn't mean I can't hope that, in his last season, he can be "phased" out and not be an automatic starter. The reason he has been an automatic starter, is that no matter who we've signed has been unable to dislodge Tav from the team (for a variety of reasons). -
Off to play in the St Helena five-a-side league.
-
If you agree he should be on the bench and shouldn't be captain, why are you trying to argue with me for making the point that he is symbolic of an era of failure and shouldn't be captain going forward? Should be a fresh start and with Tavernier on the decline, I don't think he should be captain or have any influence on how Russell Martin should act, or for guidance etc. Clean slate, thanks Tav but no thanks.

Dessers. Always available, one of the top contributors in the squad and all round good guy.

I think Turgeman was linked last season. -
I'm hoping Raskin gets sold! A captain needs to be someone that will be here for a long time, so it can't be a major asset. But, they have to play every week. Souttar? Or a youngster like Rice? Tavernier.

Where have I ever made out he is a golden boy? Stop streamlining my thoughts. Said further up the thread that if he does stay, he's a decent back up RB and possibly CB. If he was my golden boy I'd be demanding he starts every week, claiming the manager will be sacked by October if he doesn't and that he should remain captain. -

Turgeman was linked before I opened this thread on May 14th. I would assume that at that moment, Martin was not yet involved in anything. He might - and will surely - have a word to say on certain deals now, and given previous interest, it is only natural that he wants Turgeman now too. Just MHO. -
Young Raskin without a doubt! Sure he has much to learn but to be given the captaincy last season shows his leadership ability. Yet Tav should be still able to show him the ropes this season prior to him leaving if he decides to do so.
-
He's already here: our own little Napoleon, Nico Raskin.

A new seasons not far away we’ve got new owners a new manager and god knows how many people we have in new jobs with fancy titles but first and foremost we need a new captain not just someone who calls heads or tails before kick off but a leader on the park a man who the others look up to someone who will challenge the referee when one of these dodgy decisions goes against us and someone who can inspire his teammates and if necessary change the tactics during the game old Tavs done he’s had his day so would you sign someone who is captain material or promote from what is a very small field

I suppose a strong attribute to Captaincy is when JT gave Dessers the chance to score his 50th league goal against Dundee I believe it was, Not only did this help prioritise the teams moral and that of Dessers it showed the example of leading through support and encouragement of his teammates and fostering a bond in that the captain only wants to see one thing and that is a collective effort by all , I suppose it could be seen as helping Dessers contribute to more goals this seasons, who knows but that’s what I take as being a good Captain material is all about. Sure at Times JT has had to take the flak when the team wasn’t performing and I suppose we sometimes put his performance under the microscope but compared to the other performances he has executed it 8/10. I think his time is coming to an end but we should also thank him for what he has done. As Connor Goldson once said Rangers fans won’t appreciate him until he has gone.
