  1. Now updated the post, for the record the OG was scored by Jack Baird who coincidently was previously with Rangers.
  2. The main reason I started the youth blog all those years ago was the almost non existent coverage on the official site. For sometime the official site have regularly used an edited version of my match reports. Where as I don't really mind anybody using anything I post on the blog, It would be common courtesy to let me know their intentions. Especially when not so long ago I received a threatening e-mail from the official club photographer wrongly accusing me of using one of his copyrighted photographs. Taking in last night's Development League game under the heavy rain and floodlights the numbers on the St.Mirren strips were pretty difficult to make out. So when a Saints defender turned the ball into his own net I wasn't quite sure who had scored the OG. So just to see what would happen I credited the goal not to a Saints defender but to a regular follower of Rangers youths. https://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2015/03/30/development-league-win-in-paisley/ As you can see the "goalscorer" is not even listed in the St.Mirren squad. So I had a wee chuckle when I read the official match report today. http://www.rangers.co.uk/news/galleries/item/8942-gallery-under-20s-defeat-saints Well at least he now has documentary evidence from the official website that he "scored a goal for Rangers". I have now clarified who actually scored that goal and will update the post later this week.

  5. They were decent enough with no real standouts, Greg Shields son was playing and he came to notice when he cynically took Dylan Patterson out after he skinned him. They were better then most Scottish pro youth teams at U14's, although they did have a few 15's as they work to a similar age profile as the English teams. They will beat Dunfermline and could also beat Hearts but I would expect Celtic's very big 14's side to beat them.
  6. Report on tonight's 14's game against US touring side https://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/14s-welcome-american-tourists/
  7. When are the boycotters returning to help finances. There was lots of talk of seven sell outs after the EGM, so far the crowds had failed to return.
  8. Greg Kiltie is one of three players in that Killie side, all of who are Under 18, that Sinclair released because there were "too wee", Sam Liddington and Greg Taylor being the other two. I agree that playing in different positions is part of development, but when it last a season it goes beyond that. The facts are also clear, he played in that position because this squad has ONE naturally left-footed player (Jamie Mills), who has just returned from a year out with injury.
  9. Considering he play most of last season at LEFT-BACK, playing right midfield at least has him on the right side of the pitch.
  10. Kilmarnock used NINE players under 18, I would call that a young team.
  11. There are plenty scouts at youth level. Andy Kirk has been there a while, his son McKenzie plays for one of the younger teams. Malky Thomson was back briefly last season, he is a good coach, the players and parents like him. I haven't seen Gardner Spiers so far. Don't think it would have much to do with the old board, probably more to do with the autonomy that Craig Mulholland was allowed and the changes are down to him
  12. I was there and did a report on the game, you will probably be able to read a very similar report on the official site soon. https://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/all-square-at-rugby-park/
  13. He may only have been there for two games, but Boyd up front on his own for seventy minutes at home to Alloa has to raise questions. On a more positive note anyone that follows my youth posts will know I have banged on about Tom Walsh and Ryan Sinnamon for some time, one is now in the team and the other almost came on last night.
  14. Having played at left-back most of last season he must have got sick of it and spoke up as it changed from the beginning of this season, so it wasn't changed by Durrant. That meant some other right footed player was stuck out at left-back, in a lot of occassions that was Ross McCrorie, a 16 year old right footed centre back. The good news is that the ONE left footed player in the under 20's squad, Jamie Mills has returned after almost a year out injured and he has filled the left back slot in the past 4 or 5 games.

  20. Can't really comment on the Under 20's as most of their games have been midweek afternoons. I did get to their game last week and they were well beaten by Hibs, mainly due ti their inability to defend set plays. They did have a very good result away to an Aberdeen side that are joint top, but I wasn't at that game. I have now seen a few younger age games and there has been a definte change of style.
