  1. Can admin please change the title of this thread to Result of Poll for the Date of the 3rd Semi-Annual Gersnet Dinner I will start a new thread for the Dinner.
  2. As the Returning Officer for the Constituency of Copland Road & Paisley Road West, I hereby declare that the total number of votes cast for each venue in the election was as follows: 25th of April 4 votes [36.36%] 16th of May 1 vote [9.09%] 23rd of May 6 votes [54.55%] So there is no hung parliament here; the 23rd of May has a clear majority and a majority of over both other dates combined. Therefore I declare that the 3rd Semi Annual Gersnet Dinner will be held in the Indian Brasserie at 5.00pm for 5.30pm on the 23rd of May 2015 (subject to Rangers finishing 2nd in the League and the date & time not being changed for TV!)
  3. Last call. The poll closes at 10.28pm.
  4. The poll closes at 10.30pm tonight and voting remains very close.
  5. The poll is closer than the leadership debate but half of the folk who voted in the poll for venue have still to vote on the date.
  6. At least 10 folk who voted on the poll for venue have not yet voted for the date. If you are considering attending please vote asap.
  7. You should have been at the first dinner, Pete: Rangers captains, Rangers Captains who also captained Scotland, and Rangers non-Scottish captains were all questions in the quiz. Find the answers here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rangers_F.C._players
  8. I like this proposal and would welcome the opportunity to attend; however I think someone else should organise this one. As the dinners are becoming established as Christmas/New Year & end of season affairs perhaps the best time for this would be in the Autumn? I'm happy to act as treasurer for it and use my Gersnet Dinner sub account to hold the money, if that helps.
  9. The polling is very tight on this so far so I would encourage anyone who thinks they might attend to cast a vote. I see no reason why anyone should not vote for what suits them best; that's the nature of democracy after all, as Frankie says the majority will decide.
  10. Ah so Confucius him say, BH got the April date wrong in #6 anyway, now corrected. Glad we got that sorted
  11. The 25th of April is the one date that is pretty certain, the 23rd of May is the probable date of the home Semi if we finish second in the league, there is no game scheduled on the 25th of May, which is a Bank Holiday Monday. (Can't get the smillies to work just now!)
  12. Could admin please oblige by removing the sticky from the poll for venue and make this thread a sticky till Wednesday night, thanks.
  13. It has now been decided, by the narrowest of margins, to hold the 3rd Semi-Annual Gersnet Dinner at the Indian Brasserie Restaurant, 560 Paisley Road West, Glasgow G51 1RF (just round the corner from Copland Rd). Up until now we have only considered the 16th or 23rd of May, as I intimated that would be out of the country and unable to organise anything for the 25th of April and no one else stepped up to the plate in terms of organising a dinner on the 25th of April. However, due to a change in personal circumstances, I could now arrange something for the 25th of April. The restaurant are unconcerned about the dates. So we have three options: The 25th of April is the date of our last home league game v Falkirk which is scheduled for a 3.00pm KO. Given that the TV fixtures have already been announced, it seems highly unlikely that this time and date would be changed at this late date. On the other hand it is only 3 weeks away so some may find it difficult to make arrangements to attend at relatively short notice, especially those travelling from England. Perhaps more importantly, I believe that a significant factor in the result of the poll for venue was that The Indian Restaurant agreeed to close the restaurant for us (subect to a minimum of 20 persons), which would facilitate a speaker, but my mystery guest cannot now attend on that date. The 16th of May, would be our home game in the Premiership play-off semi-final, 1st leg if we finish 3rd or 4th in the League and win the Quarter Final. The 23rd of May would be our home game in the Premiership play-off semi-final, 2nd leg, if we finish 2nd in the League. As things stand tonight, I would think we must now be favourites to finish second, since this only requires 4 wins and a draw, even if Hibs, who have now lost 3 out of there last 4 games and have to go to Tynecatle before we go there on the last day, win all their games. There is every chance we will have secured the second spot before we go to Tynecatle and even if not, on today's performance, with the chips down, I think we would have a good chance of winning again. If Hibs lose to Hearts, then we would only need 10 points from 6 games. A few weeks ago we might not have bet on that; but now I suspect most would not bet against it. Rightly or wrongly I have discounted the 9th of May, which would only be our last home game in the Premiership play-off quarter-final, 1st leg, if we finished fourth and lost the Quarter Final. If we go for the 16th of May and we finish second in the league, then we would be away on that date; and if we finish 3rd or 4th in the League and lose the Quarter Final we would have no game. In the former scenario we would either have to postpone the dinner to the 23rd or find a venue wherever we were playing, most likely Edinburgh. If we go for the 23rd of May and finish 3rd or 4th in the League and win the Quarter Final, then we will be away on that date; and if we finish 3rd or 4th in the League and lose the Quarter Final we would have no game. In the former scenario we would either have to postpone the dinner or find a venue wherever we were playing, most likley Edinburgh. There is also the possibility that the Saturday games on the 16th or the 23rd of May could be moved to Sunday and the kick off time may well not be 3.00pm, in any event. If it turns out that we have arranged the dinner for a date when we have no game then we could just go ahead regardless, though some may not wish to travel just for that purpose. As I said before this is not easy. Please vote in the poll asap. I'll leave it up till Wednesday night unless there is an obvious winner.
  14. The result of the poll in terms of the votes cast in this thread was: Bella Fresca 1 [7.1%] Indian Brasserie 8 [57.2%] Malaga Tapas 5 [35.7%] However, both Gunslinger and Mountain Bear were unable to vote online and asked that they have votes counted for Malaga Tapas, so the final result was: Bella Fresca 1 [6.25%] Indian Brasserie 8 [50%] Malaga Tapas 7 [43.75%] So I declare that the 3rd Semi Annual Gersnet Dinner will be held at the Indian Brasserie, 560 Paisley Road West, Glasgow. I will put up a new poll for the date asap. Can admin please change the title of this thread to Result of Poll for the Venue of the 3rd Semi-Annual Gersnet Dinner
  15. Final reminder, voting closes at 8.00pm tonight.
  16. Yes I agree but not every MF player in that League is a Gerrard, Lampard or even Darren Fletcher. My point was simply that he has held down a place in teams at that level for 5 seasons in 3 different clubs so he can't be that bad. He didn't always look out of place at Liverpool either.
  17. Arsenal's third was a wondeful goal, a thing of beauty.
  18. Charlie Adam's been a Premiership standard player for 5 seasons, credit where credit is due.
  19. Voting ends in less than 12 hours, at 8.00pm tonight.
  20. Arsenal play wonderful football, would love to see them win the League, but it won't be this season.
  21. The SPFL (if we get there) is a bigger stage than the Eredivisie, do me a favour.
  22. Whatever it's about its not me; I can assure you I'm sat at home watching MoTD.
  23. You just beat me to it Bearman. I don't normally watch MoTD, can't stand seeing how good it is compared to the dross we have to watch, but I'm glad I tuned in tonight. Some wonderful goals from Arsenal, excellent analysis by Shearer. A fantastic strike by Bobby Zamora with the outside of the left foot on the run down the right wing and than THAT strike by Mr Mars bar himself. He said he had been looking at the goalkeeper throughout the match, saw him off the line and hit it oh so sweetly from just outside the centre circle in his own half of the field; apparently measured at 66 yards. That apart, in the short highlights, I didn't see him touch the ball. Typical Charlie.
