Telegraph: Dave King has won & David Somers to step down
BrahimHemdani replied to BEARGER's topic in Rangers Chat
Rangers chairman David Somers is to step down just days before his future in the position is due to be voted on by shareholders, BBC Sport has learned. An extraordinary general meeting is being held at Ibrox on Friday, 6 March, at which the future of the current board will be decided. It is unclear if chief executive Derek Llambias and finance director Barry Leach will also go before Friday. An announcement is expected on Monday morning regarding Somers' position. The 66-year-old has been chairman since October last year but has faced numerous calls to step down by fans who have been protesting for change. (BBC Sorry can't get URL from my phone.) -
It's not for me to explain, Craig. They already gave an explantion to the RFB; whether it stands up is another matter.

Fans Board Statement re Llambias intention to disband it.

Agreed. The RFB Constitution was drafted by Rangers' lawyers and you might say imposed on the RFB. Furthermore any proposed amendments required the approval of the RFB. It did not require "verification" and by working to it, the RFB effectively endorsed it in any event. -

I'm not sure if "clever enough" is the expression I would use but they certainly stopped me asking all the questions the "away fans" were asking about allocations etc and most definitley signalled their future intentions, which they have now carried out. -

Might you be based in Northern Ireland by any chance? This is not a reference to your day job or in any way intended as derogotatory; just that I feel I detect something in the style of your comments and appearance on the scene just now. -

I meant that Ashley and King will be the power brokers not their placemen. -

I agree that neither will be in Exec positions and neither are likely to be on the Board either IMHO but they will be the power brokers that's for sure. -

How anyone can accuse me of having green eyes is beyond my comprehension. And it is certainly not a hopeful comment, quite the contrary in fact. -

Because I don't want to find myself getting a lawyer's letter and nor does this forum. KIng has already said he will be having a forensic audit of the audit of the audit and I got laughed at yesterday when I said L&L will be held to account for any breaches of the companies act; but I'm quite sure they will. -

Didn't King say he would work with Ashley and something along the lines of using his money? If he wants to work with Ashley does that not imply working with Ashley's men? Whilst I have no time for King, there is something quite attractive about having two ruthless businessmen at the helm. -

Yes, but unless they could be shown to have committed some act of gross misconduct (which might be so in the case of Leach) they would need to be paid off from their executive positions. -

Quite so. Or at least it only existed pending ratification and since there was no ratification it doesn't exist. On the other hand de facto it existed because it met and published Minutes and Club directors met with it. However, the RFB can indulge in a bit of sport now but they are collectively pissing in the wind. If the Club don't recognise it, the game's up. I have a feeling this will also suit King who has made it clear he wants to work with the RST & RF. How long till Chris Graham is on the Board? -

NO. I stood and was elected to serve on the RFB. I was removed without due process. As some predicted at the time, that was probabaly the beginning of the end of the RFB; not because it was me but because I wasn't replaced. Then we had them being used over the Semi Final allocation; lack of communication leading to the vote of no confidence; the two meetings with L&L; the resignation of the Chair; the publication of the Minutes with Leach' comment (which was wrong and provocative however you dress it up); and now the disbandment. -

The letter would have been drafted by the lawyers not the CEO and I want a CEO who will take the tough decisions necessary to continue the exercise to balance the budget (and yes that includes increasing income as well as cutting costs). I have no issue with it being a new CEO if he has the required credentials. I have a question however. Llambias and Leach will still have their executive positions even if they are voted out of their directorships at the EGM or acknowledge that beforehand. Can Ashley re-appoint them under the new deal? -

Tom Johnstone is a lawyer but I don't see where the Constitution requires to be ratified and absent any debate to the contrary I would imagine they would be held to have been working to or under it. It was imposed at the outset and in any event 23.1 gives them the power to amend it at any time. I was going to propose a Constitution sub committee to review it but that was never formed and wouldn't be relevant now anyway. -

As Tom Johnstone says: 22.Dissolution 22.1 The Club shall have the power to dissolve OCRM or RFB at any time at its sole discretion. All they need do now is re-issue the letters with the correct reference. I'm surprised that they didn't include something along the lines of if you continue to represent yourself as a member of the RFB you will be hing drawn and quartered. -
Kindly re-read what I said I didn't say he or his brother were dignified. (Was going to add something here but deleted for fear of legal action.) I am aware that Sandy has been the main man but you are correct that I have been out of the country so may well have missed some of the finer detail of recent events.
-
I have never been dishonest about my views and I am sure that you haven't either; I respect you for standing up for your opinion, though we often disagree about DK, boycotts etc. I don't know who Llambias "hates" if anyone and I really don't care. I don't hate anyone presently connected with the Club but I have been clear thoughout all this mess that I don't want Sandy Easdale or Dave King anywhere near the Club and my reasons are equally well known.
-
I haven't ignored it; as I said they'll have to justify any new contracts they have signed in terms of company law.

Not there till April, JH; I'm in South Carolina right now and perhaps the snow and generally miserable weather is getting to me right enough.
-
You might be right but I don't think that's what he means.
-
Where did I say that? I am sure that if you do some research you will find plenty of posts where I said that we need to do both. In fact I recall saying that marketing (or the lack of it) was one of our biggest issues. The fact that I didn't mention it in the post to which you refer doesn't mean that it I don't think it's essential; because it's obvious that it is. And I'm sure we will agree that the quickest and best route to begin increasing revenue is to get back to the SPFL and then Europe, not to mention when you and others of like mind start to back the team again by paying to see them play.

Quite so, as I said I think there are some contradictions in his comments; but I take that to mean that he might want to start his managerial career at a lower level.
