  1. Truth be told, even though he had his injury problems too, I couldn't understand Gio's decision to let him go. Helander and Souttar were even more unreliable in the here and now, and Goldson was essentially gone. On hindsight, giving the latter a new deal (and 4 years at that) was even stranger.
  2. Morocco would fit in well with the brickwall-teams in Scotland. Rarely have I seen some many badly taken penalty kicks though. Yesterday's and today's were really really poor.
  3. Climbed out of sickbay just for you ...

  6. And the Freak-Score-Games continue. That looks more like a Nations League fun-event than anything like a World Cup.
  7. I can't do it under pressure ...
  8. As far as I remember, we withdrew not long after the plans were made public, so the expenses up to that point would be rather minimal, unless they can prove that some TV deals (if any) et al were made specifically for a "possible" rather than factual Old Firm game. Could well have been that Sydney FC or that Western Sydney team had stopped them or us on the way to the final ... Be that as it may, the chap at Ibrox who thought this up and agreed to our participation is still running, I hope ...
  9. This world cup will go down in history as the one with the most freak scores ...
  10. Wee sidenote: the Winter Transfer Thread won't appear before the weekend, so blow your gunpowder in here for the time being! 😜
  11. That was some grim viewing, US vs Iran.
  12. Rangers 'sued for £1.6m' over Sydney Super Cup withdrawal Rangers face having to pay out £1.6m over their withdrawal from the Sydney Super Cup tournament amid a fan backlash. Reports from Australia state that organisers have accused the club of breaking a binding agreement to take part, costing them a loss in ticket sales and promotion. The Ibrox club initially announced they would be taking part alongside Celtic, with the Glasgow rivals set for their first ever meeting outside Scotland. But supporters quickly voiced their disapproval of the move with some completely against playing the Hoops in a “friendly match” and others concerned Rangers would be playing a support act in a tournament billed as Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming. The use of the term “Old Firm” was also a contentious issue, with Rangers using the moniker in their initial announcement but Celtic failing to do so. Rangers eventually withdrew and were replaced by English Premier League club Everton. Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported on Tuesday that organisers have now launched legal action over the withdrawal. Promoters claim they suffered loss and damage following the “wrongful termination” as funding was reduced by £840,000, with a loss of ticket sales also blamed on Rangers withdrawal. https://news.stv.tv/sport/rangers-sued-for-1-6m-after-withdrawing-from-sydney-super-cup How opportune a moment to reveal this ...
  13. And now it is offical too ... who would have thought. MICHAEL Beale is the 18th manager of Rangers with the club delighted to confirm his appointment today. Signing a contract to 2026, the 42 year-old joins from his role as manager of Queens’ Park Rangers in West London having previously worked as first-team coach at Ibrox from 2018 to last November. ... Rangers would like to put on record their thanks to Queens’ Park Rangers for the professional manner in which they have conducted negotiations. Neil Banfield, Harry Watling and Damian Matthew will all join Michael at Rangers, with further appointments to be confirmed in the days ahead. ... “Finally, this is a coveted managerial position and after an intense week of discussions, I wish to extend our sincere thanks to all of the excellent managers who we met to discuss the role.” https://www.rangers.co.uk/article/rangers-confirm-michael-beale-as-manager/78EvJ6oEQDnXMpW19wJApY

  15. Does the above not represent a failure in the players and their lack of quality rather than the manager's influence on the game? We've all been around long enough that no matter what the manager wants, at the end of the day the people out there on the park have to perform and while you can blame the backroom staff for fitness, tactics et al, if the quality is not there out there or people simply continue to under-perform, what can he do? Gio was hardly able to do much in terms of rotating people in certain areas, while I did blame him for not-chopping under-performers time and again. Yet, I also know that people on here saw no quality in Matondo or Wright either, so no matter how little countable results Kent produced, in those people's eye Gio did not do much wrong with Kent either. Alas, Beale knows the place, the demands, and most of the players. You would hope that we will have more people back from injury and fit, a look at QPR's line-ups give me little hope that he will change much in tactics though. If we go on with Plan A, the pain will continue.
  16. Man, that 2nd half between Germany and Spain was some pain. Dunno what the Spanish were thinking, for all their neat passing at the back, they sure looked far too cocky and arrogant playing around like that with rarely trying to attack for the best part of that half. All bit part stuff in the final third. The German equalizer ... they showed it just once from a side-angle over here, to me it looked like Füllkrug was offside when the ball went through Sane's (?) feet (with contact) and Füllkrug was past him by that time. Then again, they also only showed that handball by one of the Spanish defenders just once too, rather strange in this day and age.
  17. Very much so. As you see above, quite a few posters go into board-room problems et al, when the most obvious and the most grievous thing clearly were injuries to a host of players, especially our central defenders. IMHO, this is what Gio refers to ahead of anything else. We've not seen Hagi this season, neither Helander. Souttar has been missing since 1st of August, Lawrence since 29th August, Goldson since 12th October, Roofe has played 26 mins this season, Morelos being a bit-part player too, mainly due to lack of fitness and form. Jack missed 12 games and didn't average more minutes than Morelos on the park. If fit, Hagi, Helander, Lawrence and Roofe would start every game for me, maybe even Jack.
  18. Watching the second half of England vs the US (i.e. the first 45 mins of this WC), and been impressed by some of the crisp passing by the US chaps, their willingness to work for one another and rather quick transition style. As opposed to England, who reminded me of our cumbersome attack game of late, with far too few players willing to support the attack or run into spaces.

  20. Someone needs to get maliciously arrested and then grabs 70odd million from the taxpayer to cover that please ... BTW, I assume this will run a few years from now on.
  21. Sean Dyche with Neil McCann as one assistant.
  22. That would be Jack or Lundstram, though he would play behind them.
  23. Long for the day when talent like him plays alongside talent like Tillman.
