  1. I was at the game after Celtic announced they'd signed him vs Aberdeen and we got beat 3-0 at home.

When we got him my feelings were excitement he was a good striker that scored goals. I wasn't really old enough to see how big a thing it was.

Looking back though, I think the reason it became such a huge thing was down to Celtic's mishandling of it from their side. Sure, the religion factor was big and would still have been a moment but Celtic made a complete ar*e of his signing.

2nd in the EPL ... hefty price money. Long run in the CL and winning it. attendance  income, advert stuff ... I don`t think Liverpool is in dire need of 10m et al for Kent.

    E.g. ...

    CL 2018/19

Winner of 2018-19 champions league can earn between €65m to €75m from “Fixed Amount” pot. Plus Market pool money which can easily elevate total earnings of winners from England, Spain, Germay or Italy around €100 million (prize money + market pool)

    EPL

We’ve broken down each club’s earnings for the 2018-19 campaign, not including revenue from European and cup games, ranking them in order of how much they accrued over the season.

    1. Liverpool

    Actual league position: 2nd
    Matches televised: 29
    TV income: £33.5million
    Prize money: £36.1million
    Equal share: £79.4million
    Total: £149million

If the stories regarding the wages structure are true. 10 million would come in handy for Liverpool to pay wages.

  3. Controversial but in terms of what Gascoigne and Laudrup were bought for. Which was to push us to the next level in Europe both were failures.

Not taking anything away from 9 in a row.  They joy they brought me watching them strutting their stuff in domestic games still makes me smiles even now.

But it is bittersweet when I remember our record in Europe from that time. Bar one season.

I would have loved to have seen both play for Advocaat.

  4. Not related but coincidentally William McGregor who was largely responsible for the Aston Villa we see today.  Was from Glasgow and a Rangers fan. Villa's motto is "Prepared" similar to our own "Ready ".

Our Main Stand and the back of Villa's Holte End are things of wonder.  I remember going to see Fulham vs Rangers about 17 years ago and thought it was a great wee stadium and Highbury and Goodison were also very impressive.

Goodson and Villa Park both have great atmospheres and always remind me of Ibrox.

  6. Marcus Gayle,  I genuinely thought would do a job for us. Big and powerful thought he'd go down a storm up here.

Theo Snelders loved him at Aberdeen we signed him as never more than cover.

Egil Ostenstad, James Beattie both strikers I thought would score goals for us.

I didn't only mean the club but was referring to the fans reaction to speculation.

IMO it's too often about players who have played to a very good level in the past but who are very unlikely to get anywhere near that level again.

In the past we could get players who were doing well at a very high level (or very recently had been) but finances (especially England) essentially mean that most of those kinds of players that we can realistically attract have been on the downward slope for a while (eg. Kranjcar).

What happens too much is a lot of noise is made on arrival, a relatively high wage, struggle to adapt to Scottish fitbaw, injury, expensive deadwood, pay-off.

Agree, the ageing veteran seems to seldom work out for us.

Few odd exceptions like Weir but most are very forgettable and largely a waste of money.

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield emerges as Southampton transfer target

Reports in England claim Saints have been impressed with the former Burnley and Falkirk star's performances under Steven Gerrard this season.

RANGERS midfielder Scott Arfield is a transfer target for Southampton, according to reports.

The Daily Mail says the Gers star’s performances under Steven Gerrard this season have caught the eye of the English Premier League outfit.

The 30-year-old has EPL experience on his CV after starring for Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

Southampton have raided the Scottish Premiership several times in recent years, making big-money moves for ex-Celtic trio Virgil van Dijk, Fraser Forster and Victor Wanyama.

The Mail claims the Light Blues are likely to value the ex-Falkirk ace around the £3million mark.

Arfield joined Gers on a free from Dyche’s side last summer.

He’s netted 11 times in 42 appearances so far this season, bagging a hat-trick in Sunday’s win over Motherwell.

The Canadian international was also a key player for Gerrard’s men in December’s 1-0 Old Firm derby win over Celtic.

Rangers fans praised the player after he taunted Scott Brown with the Hoops captain’s trademark ‘Broony’ celebration during the game.

If true and Southampton at least doubled that. Would be a good bit business for us. Assuming Gerrard and Allen had a cheap alternative lined up also.
