Rangers v Stirling Albion under 4000 tickets remaining
Steve1872 replied to Steve1872's topic in Rangers Chat
of FF To celebrate our 140th year. Over the last few years the research into the lives of the kids who formed our Club ,and the many others who played a vital role in establishing the Rangers, has left us at times with a sense of astonishment. What follows is such a tale. John and Jean McNeil had nine children. Four boys who all played for the Rangers: Moses Peter William Harry They had a further three sons who careers lay in other fields John James Alexander And two daughters Elizabeth and Isabella. I was contacted recently by Rangers Historian David Mason who told me that he believed that there may be a lady who had a connection of sorts with Moses McNeil. David had worked with her son a number of years ago. I got her contact details, and very nervously rang her. Incredibly within a couple of days we found ourselves sitting in her Glasgow home for what was a jaw-dropping experience. In Mrs. Pirie's own words. '' I can vividly recall travelling from our home in Prestwick with my mother and aunt to visit Uncle Moses in Clynder. We would take the train to Helensburgh and then a small boat across the Loch to Clynder and walk from there along the coast to his home where we'd spend many a weekend. He was a happy, kind man who would often take me for walks around the Village and down to the local shops''. Research has established that Moses brother James McNeil listed above is Mrs Pirie's Grandfather and Moses Brother. James was very successful in the Drapery and Lace trade . He worked for Stewart and McDonald who's premises is now Frasers of Buchanan Street. He's buried at Craigton Cemetery alongside his parents, and brothers Peter, William and Alexander which Mrs.Pire didn't know about. Yesterday afternoon myself and my colleague Gordon took Mrs. Pirie around the Founders Trail by car where we visited many locations including four homes where her Grandfather lived. She visited Craigton and paid her respects at her Grandfathers and Great Uncle's final resting place. Mrs.Pirie has received a formal invitation from the Club to join the celebrations at Ibrox on Saturday , she'll take her place with her son and daughter in the Directors Box -

Rangers, Dundee Utd and Scottish Cup tickets: Your questions answered By Andy Coyle 5 December 2012 10:07 GMT FacebookTweetGoogle Rangers will not request tickets for their fans for the tie at Tannadice.SNS Group Rangers have sparked controversy by stating that they will not take tickets from Dundee United for their Scottish Cup tie. Rangers chief executive Charles Green has said that the history between the clubs, and security concenrs are behind the decision, which has the backing of supporters groups. We've looked at some of the questions that have arisen from the controversial decision. Why have Rangers taken this step? Rangers were denied re-entry to the SPL in the summer after the asset sale that saw Charles Green’s consortium take control of the club. This is the first time Rangers have been drawn to play away against SPL opposition since the summer. Rangers supporters groups had initially called on fans to boycott the game. The Rangers Supporters Assembly has urged a “full boycott” of the match in response to United’s part in denying the club SPL entry and also because of a ticketing controversy in 2009. Charles Green issued a statement on Tuesday evening saying the club would not be taking up their allocation of tickets for the game. He said that the decision was a unanimous one by the board, senior management and staff at Ibrox. “Everyone at this club is dismayed at the actions of certain SPL clubs, which were actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers when we were in a perilous situation and we are acutely aware of their attitude to us,” he added. Don’t they have to take tickets? The Scottish FA competition rules state that Rangers have a right to a minimum number of tickets but don’t specify an obligation to purchase any. Rule 41 states: “the visiting club shall have the right to claim admissions up to 20% of the spectator capacity of the ground” and says that if any of the allocation is not sold then it should be returned to the host club 24 hours before kick-off. Will Rangers make money from the game? Again, the Scottish Cup rules specify that revenue from the game should be split between the participating teams in each tie. Rule 46 lays out the procedure for teams in the Fifth Round as: (1) The host club shall be entitled to make a deduction of 20% from the gross receipts. (2) When half of the receipts remaining exceed the guarantee, the said receipts shall be divided, equally, between the clubs. (3) When half of the receipts remaining do not exceed the guarantee, the visiting club shall only receive the guarantee. The guarantee mentioned is a payment of up to £400 that should be made from the host to the visitors. So Rangers would expect to receive the share of the takings, after expenses. In practice, the amount is more likely to be around a third of the day’s ticket receipts. Discussing the issue on Twitter, Scott Struthers from Hamilton Academical said that with costs varying for the home team, in his experience the visiting team receives between 29% and 35%. How much are they likely to make? It’s hard to predict. The size of the crowd isn’t known and expenses, such as policing, all need to be factored in. Could Dundee United just charge pennies to get in? No. Rule 40 sets a minimum price of £8 per ticket. Any pricing over and above that has to be agreed between Dundee united and Rangers. If the clubs can’t reach agreement, the Scottish FA would apply the price for a regular match at Tannadice. It isn’t clear whether that regular pricing would be based on last year’s Scottish Cup ties or from this season’s Scottish Premier League games. In any case, limiting the amount of revenue would not help United. Failing to bring in enough to cover costs would leave them out of pocket. Covering costs and making a profit means a fair split between teams so ever pound denied to Rangers would also be denied to Dundee United. Could United, for example, let season ticket holders in for free? Dundee United could allow their season ticket holders in for free but would have to contribute to the receipts as if those spectators had paid in on the day at the same price. It would leave the SPL side out of pocket. Could the Scottish FA change the rules? Rule 47 (a) allows for temporary changes to the rules. However, 47 (b) says any permanent changes have to be approved at the Scottish FA AGM. It would be surprising if 47(a) was invoked to overturn any of the other applicable rules, given that they cover all matches in the competition. Can Dundee United withhold the cash? No, that would breach Cup rules. The share of receipts has to be paid to Rangers or the United would face sanctions. Are there any other rules that could apply? What about bringing the game into disrepute or not acting in the best interests of football? There are broader Scottish FA rules about the conduct of clubs and officials. However, any charges would likely be met with a vigorous defence from Rangers who would argue that they have acted within the stated cup competition rules. The Ibrox club could also argue that given the strong feelings associated with the match and the security concerns that Rangers highlighted in their statement, they are acting in the best interests of football by reducing the likelihood of any flashpoints. What happens if it goes to a replay? The teams would meet at Ibrox with all the above still applying. United could take an allocation or not and would still be entitled to their share of the income. http://sport.stv.tv/football/clubs/dundee-united/204234-rangers-dundee-utd-and-scottish-cup-tickets-your-questions-answered/

CHARLES GREEN, Chief Executive of Rangers, has tonight issued the following statement. He said: “Rangers Football Club will not be taking its allocation of tickets for the forthcoming Scottish Cup match against Dundee United at Tannadice. “This is a unanimous decision by the board, senior management and staff at Ibrox. Everyone at this club is dismayed at the actions of certain SPL clubs, which were actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers when we were in a perilous situation and we are acutely aware of their attitude to us. “Not all clubs who voted against Rangers returning to the SPL fall into that category and indeed we made Motherwell very welcome when we played them at Ibrox in the League Cup competition recently. “However, feelings remain very raw and it should be no surprise that we as a club feel this way. "It is unsurprising too that there has been a reaction from our supporters to this particular fixture. “The last thing we as a club want to do is to compromise security arrangements for any match. "I therefore appeal to all fans not to travel to this match and to Dundee United not to sell tickets to Rangers supporters. “Our only regret is that this turn of events will not assist Ally McCoist and the team in what will be a very difficult fixture. “We should make clear that the Club, the manager and the players all look forward to a situation where Rangers fans attend every match to support the team. The fans are our greatest asset.” INFORMATION FOR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS/SUPPORTERS CLUBS Rangers season ticket holders should note that their participation in the continuous credit card scheme and position in any subsequent ballots will be unaffected by this decision. Similarly, supporters clubs should not that their ticket grading will remain completely unaffected. Visit the official Rangers web site at http://www.rangers.co.uk to catch up on the latest

A spokesman for the Rangers Supporters Assembly has called on Charles Green to consult with fans over a proposed boycott of the club’s Scottish Cup tie with Dundee United. The group have joined other fans’ bodies to call for fans not to attend the match at Tannadice, the first time the Ibrox side have faced SPL opposition away from home since they were denied entry to the top flight since the new company transferred the membership of the club in the summer. Ross Blyth, spokesperson Rangers Supporters Assembly, told STV he hopes the Rangers chief executive will talk to fans over the move. He said: “We’d like to speak to Charles Green over this. If he understands the fans’ feelings, which I’m sure he does we would like to think he would support us. “We would hope Charles Green would consult us before a final decision is made. “The dislike between Rangers and Dundee United fans has grown more than with any other club.” He added: “The ill feel between the two club dates back to 2009 after postponed match at Tannadice. After initially telling Rangers fans tickets would be valid for the rescheduled fixture, they then recharged us. “Then we’ve got what happened in the summer and the general attitude of chairman Stephen Thompson. He wanted Rangers to suffer. “He wanted us to be hit financially yet wanted to benefit from Rangers via the television revenue.” Asked whether an absence of away fans may have an effect on the Rangers team, Mr Blyth said: “I can see the reason behind supporting the team and knocking United out of the cup and making them suffer that way but you’ve got to understand the strong feelings and anger Rangers fans have towards Dundee United.”

Sandy Humbled By Support Written by Lindsay Herron RANGERS legend Sandy Jardine has contacted the Club today to pass on his thanks for the unbelievable messages of support he and his family has received since he revealed he was being treated for cancer. Sandy has been in hospital for over two weeks but he is now out of intensive care and wanted to convey just how much the best wishes of Rangers supporters, staff and indeed the wider Scottish football community has meant to him. Sandy saod: â??I would like to pass on my thanks to everyone who has contacted my family to pass on their support. I have been truly humbled by the good wishes and it has meant so much to me. â??I also know the supporters arranged a minuteâ??s applause at the Elgin game on Sunday and I canâ??t thank them enough for that touching tribute. â??It has been a difficult time for me but I am now out of intensive care and the messages of support I have received have been very uplifting. I am truly grateful to everyone who has contacted the Club and my family to offer their support.â? http://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/item/2852-sandy-humbled-by-support

Some Rangers fans were further infuriated when the Tannadice club temporarily placed “Dundee United will play The Rangers” on their club website yesterday afternoon. But a United spokesman insisted it was a genuine mistake and there was no malice intended. He said: “We put up ‘The Rangers’ as that was what Charles Green had called his club, but five minutes later we looked at the SFA website and it was down as Rangers. “As soon as we saw that, we amended our website with immediate effect. It wasn’t done to offend anyone. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/362380

The RST tonight calls for Rangers fans to boycott the Scottish Cup game against Dundee United next year. As an alternative we are calling on fans and supporter clubs to stage charitable events at the time of the game. The Rangers family has suffered greatly from the witch-hunt orchestrated since Craig Whyte put the club into administration. Dundee United were prominent cheerleaders in this despicable campaign and deserve to be ostracised until they can demonstrate a commitment to fair play and sportsmanship.
