Anyone else get the feeling we've decided to park our tanks on their lawn? The action against the SPFL can't be about money, it must be about creating change at the top of that organisation. Leaking it to the media, along with uncomfortable truths around employment contracts, during a quiet sports news period, feels deliberate too. It feels like we're ramping up pressure on Doncaster, his paymasters, and the other clubs in the SPFL who might be swithering over where to fall on this. The spin around the SFA backing us on it only helps create division and uncertainty, must make it fun when they all bump into each other in the lift at Hampden.

Cantwell publicly mocking Celtic's pet broadcaster might be coincidence, but again it feels like we've decided to get in their faces from the off. Beale clearly annoyed Celtic's last manager with some rather innocuous comments, perhaps we've decided to go all in on that this season.  It's a strategy that should please many in our support, but does run the risk of making us look foolish if it only helps galvanise them.

We have had the tanks parked on their lawn for over three years with little return. Initially, we went in with size 14's (a full panzer división) and surprisingly seemed surprised when very few clubs were interested in backing our stance.

Los tres amigos remain in the executive (perhaps McKenzie has left but it would have been of his own choice).

We have become accustomed to articles or 'news' that speculate on positive tendencies and outcomes.

They are too often pish and wind that come to nothing or indeed, very negative outcomes, eg. Ashley/SDI.

What we have to do regards to getting in their faces is simple. Beat them in the first OF match at Ibrox. Neither side are going to drop many points to the rest.

  2. Since 2015, despite the scant success on the pitch, the support have been amazing in their continued loyalty.

Hugely important aspect for the club and finance.

    Edit.

    It is exceptional support.

    A comparison.

The league titles that John Greig (congrats on CBE) played in during the 70's had Ibrox often not even half full.

  3. Difficult to implement and run a settled, functional footballing infrastructure when you are consistently second in a two horse race. Good ideas and intentions get lost in the fallout.

Add the pressure that comes to bear on top of those responsible in the Glasgow goldfish bowl and constant change is inevitable. Individuals and structural.

The obvious problem or danger is a two horse race becomes a one horse race.

It happened before (2012) and lasted for about 8 years.

They continue to operate within a financially viable model. We don't and appear to be front loading once again. If it works, good (but still no viable structure). If it doesn't work, the future ain't bright at Ibrox.

Thanks, a fine analysis, which must have taken quite some time to prepare.

As someone languishing in mid table obscurity the question I have is .... how the hell does Buster do it? A pact with the Devil perhaps?

The least that I could do after being called a "Wannabe Nostradamus" was win the Predictor League again 😁

Keeping an eye on the Devil(s) is more my thing but that is another part of this forum, not Rangers Chat.

Thanks for all the work you've put in @Rousseau

Getting new players in early and starting the new season (pre-season) with the squad virtually intact is probably important in achieving a decent start.

It's a big ask but not impossible given a favourable draw in Europe and the level of the Scottish Diddy teams (who now can't even get past Irish and Welsh League teams in the qualifying rounds).

First OF being at Ibrox is good news.

The other side of the city got their recruitment spot-on when their manager arrived but stuttered badly until September. They got away with it because we were poor, they won't be as generous.

I wouldnt be playing any of the players leaving. Rangers is bigger than any player. Let them come out at HT or FT (as is suggested above) but MB must use this game to continue to assess who he wants and doesnt want for next season, who works in what positions etc. It matters not a jot about winning this particular game unfortunately, but momentum is important and you always want to finish the season on a good unbeaten run.

We finished last season well (except penalties ELF).... didn't do us much good this season.

Truth was we were set-up to fail. At least this time there will be a major freshening up of the squad.

Next season is all about recruitment and hitting the preverbial ground running.

Recruitment can be very good but it would still be difficult to start well and churn out the wins.

If Allan McGregor had retired at the end of last season he would have left with his impressive legacy intact. Now he’s widely and rightly considered a liability. It’s such a pity but he should never play another game for Rangers.

I think nearly everyone at the club knew that the time to start the overhauling of the squad that SG&Co built was directly after 55 (summer 2021) and by the end of following summer transfer window (2022) to have it more or less finished.

The main reason it hasn't happened is financial.

    The consequences are obvious.

For all that we trumpeted Ross Wilson and the modern progressive football department they failed, albeit with one arm tied behind their back. Not surprised that Wilson took the opportunity to move.

The situation we have in front of us has been wrapped up in a parcel and coming down the line for a while.

Some may say we are not that far behind our main rivals, we only lost by a goal etc. Get some decent players in and....etc.

Financialy, we are miles behind them and are always looking to try and finance that chronic loss making deficit. It's been like that for decades now.

We barely create anything either, Michael...

We didn't before MB arrived either. We must have converted a relatively high percentage though to score the amount of goals we did.

Dry spell, it happens and it would be better if we could just end the season now
