GvB certainly failed in his... We spent enough (approx. £12m), IMO, and 90% of sides have a DoF in charge of recruitment. If he's not prepared for that, then GvB will never get another job.

I'm watching Canada out-play Croatia - after out-playing Belgium - with a team that includes a 36-year-old, a 39-year-old and a bunch of nobodies. How on earth do they compete against such a gulf?!

We pumped Dortmund and Liepzig, and took Frankfurt to a penalty shoot-out. All three are CL teams. We should be competing. That doesn't mean win - our group was very tough, but the capitulations were embarrassing. GvB is at fault.

I think they'll return to better form too, as will Kamara.

If so, tough. That's how we're run. It's much more important than the ego of a manager.

Our fitness, conditioning and medical department has been atrocious, which has led to injuries. Even the perma-crocks played more under SG than they have under GvB. (Soutar is the only new signing with a known injury record.) If we can reach a EL final, then we can certainly compete in the CL. That doesn't mean we win every game, merely put up a fight. Of course the team is good enough for that. Celtic got humilated in the EL and then the Conference, but they still put up a better fight than we did.

For me, he was responsible for both of those.

I'm a little disappointed in Japan. It's one thing to stay compact and counter with pace (i.e. against Germany), but quite another to break down a compact side when the onus is on you to attack.

I don't want ex-players to be coaches with us; that's ok as an assistant, etc. Our coach needs to be a very technical role - like Beale was with us.
