That's certainly part of it. However, we did play teams like Porto and Benfica - CL teams - and if not beat them, at least gave a good account of ourselves. Even the game against Leverkusen several years back: it was clear there was a gulf in quality, but it wasn't a humiliation.

"Switched off" under SG was an unlucky 0-1 defeat, compared to 0-4 and 1-7 horsings under GvB.

As I and others have said, finishing fourth after putting up a fight is infinitely more tolerable than the capitulations to which we've been subjected. It's embarrassing. We're officially the worst CL team ever. EVER. If you can concede that SG - a man with no managerial experience, except youth football - can organise this team to put up more resistance than GvB, then why can't you accept that there is someone else out there than can do better? I don't disagree with all you say, but you keep coming back to this idea that there's no one better. I don't get it? There has to be someone better, because this is shameful. I've put forward a few names - but that's just me, as a fan on the outside. Surely those in the business will have a fuller shortlist?

I'm not advocating his return; definitely not - I was pleased when he left in the first place while everyone else was greetin'! It was used for comparative purposes: a SG side would not have been beaten 7-1 by anyone, no matter how stark the financial gap.

We were a spot kick away from beating Frankfurt, who have since qualified for the CL last-16. We've been embarrassed. I don't expect us to win every game, merely put up a fight (that could still involve finishing 4th). GvB should've been able to do that - he did it last year, although now I'm thinking it's because of the work SG did - but he hasn't. Your financial gulf argument doesn't cut it. Plzen put up more of a fight with less resources. I can most definitely blame the manager. A different manager puts up more of a fight - I know SG would.

We lost to Lyon, lost to Sparta Prague away, then beat Brondby at home, before a draw away. Then GvB took over (1W, 1D - in the group). We were joint 2nd. What are you trying to argue? I can't deny that GvB did well last season, but that doesn't excuse the performances this season.

What are you talking about? Our European campaigns prior to this season have been exceptional. Last season was miraculous. That doesn't excuse the capitulations of this season. All campaigns have been against sides with greater financial resources. What's the difference? GvB.

Roughly, they've beaten us twice in the last 25 games, drawing five times. All but five of our wins were by one goal. Pretty good going for such a financial gulf.

We know there's a financial gulf, but that doesn't excuse these capitulations. There's a comparative gulf between ourselves and Livingston, and they could have beaten us!

Plzen, a worse team than us, in a more difficult group, are putting up more of a fight.

Ajax and Liverpool are not going far in this competition. Ajax are already out, and Liverpool are rubbish. I expected it to be extremely difficult for us - not least because it's a difficult group, as you said - but I did expect us to put up a semblance of a fight.
