I was annoyed when John Fleck and Charlie Adam were let go. It's not so much "[losing] a diamond", for me; It's losing good squad players. Players like Chris Burke, Ross McCormack, Barrie McKay, Lewis Macleod, Kal Naismith, Jamie Ness, Ryan Hardie, Ross McCrorie. They're not world-class, but they're decent. We could use them, as squad players - until we get a decent offer for them.

It would be good to know if the Academy players are, in fact, not good enough, or has it has been an unwillingness from the management to use them?

I don't think van Gastel is joining? I read that he's still under contract in China. I'm excited for change. The reason SG did well, especially in Europe was the tactical influence of Beale. GvB doesn't have it, so I think he needs that help. I'm excited to see what he's learned under Pep, though.

I'm disappointed in the backroom staff - I would have wanted a more tactical influence. Both of them seem like assistants, rather than coaches. Roy Makaay was a excellent striker in his day, though. I am intrigued to see what GvB has learned from his time with Pep.
