  1. It seems I stand alone in my admiration for Martin...
  2. Should that not be 'Mk II'? Honestly, the standards in this country...
  3. He's not my absolute ideal choice, but I still think of the names being mentioned he's one of the better options. This doesn't mean anything, though - betting was suspended on Gerrard last week.
  4. Russell Martin is now the new favourite to become the next manager of Rangers, according to the bookmakers. https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/latest-rangers-news/next-rangers-manager-new-odds-on-favourite-for-ibrox-hotseat-as-takeover-accelerates-progress-5154993
  5. I can't argue with that - I tried... The only caveat being, Martin has been managing sides in the lower half of the table (outwith So'ton '23/24), whereas the others tend to manage those near the top. Goals conceded per league match: 24/25 23/24 22/23 21/22 20/21 19/20 Avg Martin - 1.37 1.39 1.48 1.39 1.34 1.39 Knutsen - 1.03 1.27 1.37 0.83 1.07 1.11 Muscat - 1.00 1.21 1.03 - - 1.08 Ange 1.71 1.61 0.89 0.58 0.92 1.74 1.24
  6. I favour Martin out of the likely candidates. I think Priske and Fagioli look like better options than Ancelotti - and maybe Martin - but I'm not sure how likely they are.
  7. I favour Martin over Ancelotti. Although, I think Fagioli is the best option out of the names mentioned, but I'm not sure about the link's validity.
  8. Rangers have spoken to Francesco Farioli about becoming their new manager and the former Ajax boss will rival Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin for the chance to replace Philippe Clement. (Scottish Sun) Steven Gerrard is out of the running to make a return to Rangers because the timing was not right despite positive initial talks. (Rangers Review)
  9. RANGERS Academy can today confirm the departure of a number of players who will now continue their footballing journey elsewhere. Lewis Budinauckas, Jay Hogarth, Jacob Pazikas, Jack Harkness, Kristian Webster, Leyton Grant, Kerr Robertson, Darren McInally, Grant Leitch and Harry Weir are all moving on. Adam Devine, Cole McKinnon and Archie Stevens, all of whom featured for the first-team at various points in their Rangers careers, will also depart the club upon the expiration of their contracts, and we thank each for their contributions over the years. We wish all the departing players the very best in their future endeavours and they will always be welcome back at Rangers. https://www.rangers.co.uk/article/rangers-confirm-academy-departures-2025/6WMuZ8PraTN9GwuAiJtqMY
  10. He's a desciple of De Zerbi...
  11. Keef reporting that Gerrard has rejected us. I, too, have rejected the chance to become Rangers manager.
  12. Captain, Modric. Hotel, Trivago.
  13. In Brighton's case it's the club's structure that has the modern ideas and methods rather than the manager, but I agree with your point. It's the old ideas that got us into this mess.
  14. You've really gone off on one, haven't you. I just thought the idea of having a 'group of five or six specialists, each focused on a specific area of the game,' was interesting. It maybe deserves its own thread.
  15. Does he know he's coming to a footballing backwater?
  16. 'The ltalian has options - three other high-level opportunities-from clubs that value Ancelotti's experience, his modern approach, and ability to connect every layer of a club: from the dressing room, to the media, the ownership, and the boardroom. That comes not only from being by his father's side at Bayern, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid, but from a personal conviction that clubs should build lasting cultures, not just chase quick wins. He wants to leave behind something enduring- an identity, a structure, a way of working that survives his departure. Ancelotti envisions a technical staff built not around a strict hierarchy of "manager" and 'assistant," but a group of five or six specialists, each focused on a specific area of the game. It's collaborative, long-term and methodical.' Interesting...
  17. American health tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, who is the driving force behind the proposed takeover of Rangers, will meet the frontrunners for the Scottish Premiership club's head coach job - departing Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti and former Southampton boss Russell Martin - this week.
