I wouldn't argue with the 'overpaid' label, but I don't think it's been bad. We've overpaid for potential, which is better than overpaying for players in their 'peak' like Dessers, Lammers, Dowell and Danilo we saw under Beale. Igamane, Diomande, Barron, Jefte, Kasanwirjo, etc., are good players with a lot of potential. (I also think Cortes is a good player at only 20, but I'd really like to get out of that deal as he just can't get fit.) I don't subscribe to the idea that Tavernier is the cause of all our problems. This is the start of a new cycle.

I agree on both counts, but I've been becoming more and more concerned about your second point. I'm also getting annoyed at the constant desire for a rebuild without seeing out the last. I'm actually quite optimistic about the core of the young squad we have. I've been saying for a while that the next step is building on that with first-team quality.

Yilmaz and Cortes are young assets so I wouldn't even entertain letting them go, unless accepting a decent offer. Tavernier is still a standout performer. Propper has admirers in The Netherlands, so won't be an issue moving on. Butland I'll give you. Again, it's not an issue. It was an issue the last couple of seasons, but Koppen has done well to clear the deadwood.

I don't think that's an issue this summer. We've let go most of those, and are down to bare bones. We're ready for the next phase of our rebuild.

I think the set-up they had in their last game will be the blueprint, but with Kudus and Todipo brought back in when they're fit - and possibly Emerson at LWB ahead of Scarles. Again, though - he'll need more time, and a few acquisitions with more athleticism.

Potter will need more than a couple of weeks to improve things with that squad.

Unfashionable, and untrue. Murray has scored 0.47 goals per 90. Danilo has scored 0.65 goals per 90. Murray is effective when he has space to run into, which he wouldn't get with us.
