Was that another one Celtic nicked?
-
Well, if you don't think we'll win the league then technically the league is gone. No matter who's on top right now or what the points margin is.
-
His club, he didn't have to honour SDM's appointment. When he took over he could easily have brought in his own management team. Ally was his choice too - if he wasn't, he wouldn't be the manager. Whyte had no issue getting rid of the old board, can't see that getting a new manager would make him lose much sleep either.
-
Why you believing this story when you called the same paper a 'rhag' when it had a negative Rangers story? This is why I don't buy into the media conspiracy theories - fans call papers biased when they see a negative story, but believe anything positive or which paints their club or players as victims.
-
The Sun is a truly shocking 'newspaper' but they are not anti Rangers. They've covered a shitload of anti Celtic stories in the past. They just target whoever they can to sell papers, and can afford to pay out of court when sued.

Didn't see this post. The red mist descended when I read his post.

Your posts are usually very fair and to the point, but this one is miles and miles off base. First off to say Ally's transfer track record isn't great is complete drivel, no offence. He's signed, so far, Wallace, Aluko, Bartley, Bocanegra, Goian, Celik, Ortiz, McKay, and Bedoya. Only 3 of them were abject failures, 5 have been unquestionable successes, and early signs of Celik are promising. That's basically about a 60% success rate in the transfer market, and if that's not good enough for you nothing ever will be. Second of all you actually appear to be blaming Ally directly for the crap offers and woeful players we were targeting. Do you actually think, given the quality I've illustrated above, that Ally would change tact and this time only target rubbish? Lastly, Ally should NOT be in the same boat as every other manager in Scotland. The OF are a unique animal in this country, we are stronger and should have more funds for players. To say 'well, it's ok because now he knows how Craig Brown or Paulo Sergio feel' is a complete load of crap. We, as Rangers, should never be happy with being 'just another SPL club'. I do like your posts normally, but this one irritated me. No offence.

Just started a thread on this very subject.
-
The other transfer thread revealed the STV news that Whyte and the hierarchy flat out refused to give Ally any of the money from the sale of Jelavic. Now while this was possibly predictable, the actual reality of it means his hands are truly tied and he's not being supported by Whyte and the board. A Rangers manager cannot do his job if he has no funds with which to work. We spent a grand total of 3.3M in the summer, not the £5M Whyte claims. Before anyone yells at me, Bougherra's sale was £1.7M. So that was 800k on Goian, 400k on Boca, 350k on Bedoya, 500k on Ortiz, 1.5M on Wallace, and 500k on McKay. No more than 5M tops, offset by the cash received for Madjid. This time, the board simply hasn't supported Ally. We've made comical bids for players and had every single one rejected. The word 'absurd' has been used - not by the press, but by Motagua's president Pedro Atala, to describe the bid we made for Claros. He ended up on loan at Hibs. I can't see how any supporter can be behind Whyte right now. I think Ally's made errors in management, but I think he deserved a bit more support than this. I would not be shocked if he is thinking overnight about his position at Ibrox.

Saw his interview. Clearly excited to play in the EPL and I can't blame him, but when Shreeves asked him if it would be harder to score in England than Scotland his reply wasn't very diplomatic - 'yes'. Didn't say anything to defend the SPL. Which while true, was a wee bit disappointing for him to say.
-
When I said 5.5M it was based on the fact Everton have no money except what they received for the Russian - widely speculated at being 5M. They probably had an extra 500k to top it up a bit and we took it, simply because it was the only deal on the table. But yes, speculation is the key word.
-
The club was right to reject the 7M West Ham bid, and try to get more. It was worth the gamble of not just bending over as soon as someone bid for a player. But in hindslight it hasn't worked in our favour and cost us at least £1.5M.
-
I feel a real sense of despondency at the state of the club right now. Craig Whyte is not to be trusted, the playing squad aren't good enough and don't number enough, and we signed one 250k player and that was it. Add to that Ally struggling to get a winning team and we really are in the shitter.
-
*wooooooooooooooooosh* way over my head m8
-
No he didn't. The price was a compromise between our desire to sell him and his desire to play in the EPL. We probably got about 5.5M and MAYBE addons.
-
I bear him no grudge. Conducted himself well enough while here and always spoke well about the club, although always admitted that his dream was the EPL. He said near the end that he knew we had huge financial problems and if the money from his sale could help us, then he was happy to leave. His timing last season of saying Man Utd were interested in him was astonishingly poor, and overall this season he hasn't been the player he was last year. The curious thing is he struggled in Austria - barely 1 in 3. And has struggled for his country. Only place he's done quite well has been with us. I do wish him the best, we made a great profit (possibly, fee hasn't been announced) - but I agree with you Allan - he's not as good as we thought he was and I don't know that he'll do that well in England. We'll see.
-
Our first 11, without Lafferty (currently), Naismith and now, of course, Jelavic, isn't good enough to win the league. It's decent, but it isn't as good as Celtic. That, sadly, is a fact. With Naismith, Lafferty and Jela we crushed timmy at Ibrox. Take all 3 away and we're a different prospect entirely.
-
Just heard that during the Everton game literally as you posted it.

I'm not angry about it because I'm on record as saying that Celik would be our only signing. Now, don't get me wrong, like most people I like being correct because I'm a dick, but on this occasion it fills me with no pleasure at all. We've been a total disgrace in the transfer market - from flagpolling targets so other clubs could pinch them, to offering 'absurd' amounts for players which get stumped by lowly Hibs, to offering such poor deals that more than one player abandoned trials with us and buggered off elsewhere. It's been horrible to witness - the last window was rather farcical too but we ended up with 5 or 6 good players. This time only one, albeit quite a promising one. Add to that the messy situation that is our current regime and the question marks that surround it and right now this club is in a really bad state tbh. On the pitch we don't have the worst 11 ever, with McGregor, Whittaker, Goian, Boca, Wallace, Papac, Davis, Edu, Aluko, Celik, Healy, Lafferty and Wylde. Our problem stems from an abysmal lack of depth. Up front is particularly impoverished with only 1 fit striker on our books right now.
-
Take it McKay's loan deal to Roar didn't materialise?
-
Have we confirmation Jelavic has agreed terms?
-
Can't disagree with much of that. Depressing stuff.
-
How do you know it wasn't jelavic's choice?
-
Who says they sent jelavic away? He may have chosen to do it by himself. And yes, ally does not look happy.

The whole BBC thing confuses me. He was accused of 'criminality' on the basis that he was a director on boards when he had been disqualified. He slammed the BBC for their muckraking exercise, withdrew co-operation with the club and released strong statements condemning them for being 'institutionally biased against Rangers'. Quietly, 2 or 3 months later, he admits their accusation of his disqualification was actually completely true. What he seems to deny is being a director during that time, despite the BBC having documents which put his name on various companies' boards during said period. The evidence against him isn't exactly weak, and he admits to part of it despite initially setting up a bit of a panic room regarding them. So what's to say in 2 or 3 months he won't quietly admit to 'small aspects' of the Record's accusations too?
