So this window has thus far yielded one player (who admittedly looked very promising yesterday) and bog all else? I knew we had no money, but by christ surely there's a decent bosman or 6 out there. But then, it seems we can't afford wages either.

Burke was the only good thing about Eck's 2003/2004 campaign. But after that he was very patchy and while he's done pretty well at Cardiff then Birmingham, that he never forced his way into the Scotland setup kinda incriminates his career somewhat.

Must admit he's in much better form right now than he was at the start of the season. He's getting in the right positions to intercept attacks, his use of the ball is a lot better, he makes said interceptions more frequently, and he's looking a bit more like the player he was at the run in during '52 when he replaced Thomson. He's not exactly Michael Essien, but on current form he isn't a wasted shirt nor is he frustrating as he previously was. I think he deserves a bit of credit for pulling his form back. (and as I said elsewhere, he was the one who scored V Aberdeen)

So one good performance from the whole team and suddenly Aluko's turned into Naismith? Don't think so. He's showing signs of real quality, yes (his free kick was sumptuous), but there's once again a hint of over reaction about his worth. Only one week ago we were held at home by Aberdeen - didn't see anyone pulling the team through (apart from maybe Edu) never mind Aluko. And we only just got the 3 points in the prior match V St Johnstone! I'm enjoying this emphatic win as much as anyone else but my head is not in the clouds about it or any player yet - we have not yet turned a corner, we're not suddenly fixed and we need to realise this quickly! EDIT: Just fully read all your post (rather jumped the gun on the first sentence) - you do actually hint at some of Aluko's flaws and that's fair enough. Just can't really agree that he's pulling us along right now.

We were very embarrassed when they signed Loovens, but in hindsight (which is wonderful) we were glad they did. But that isn't the point. The fact is they nip in and pinch our targets with sickening regularity. Whether that player works out or not barely even matters. It just makes us look amateur when we see another player we broadcast interest in instead signing for timmy.

Celtic await UEFA verdict over banner and flares

The decision has been put back. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16767836.stm I notice McLaughlin didn't put his name on this one. -
I think Villa fans would argue about Cuellar - he did pretty well after initially struggling to get in their team. Hutton was just never rated by 'Arry, and it was after all Ramos who signed him. Boumsong was abysmal for Newcastle, seems to have sorted himself out though. However, blatant successes have included Petrov and Ferguson.

If he does half the work Naismith did then he could well help in that department. But I am absolutely not holding out hope that anyone can replace Naismith for the kind of outlay we're looking at. If a 250k player can replace the quality of a player whose value must now be at 8M (we paid 2) then I'll eat my hat and paint your house. And believe me, I want to do both of those things.

Disagree on Rothen - he was made the scapegoat for our defeat to Unirea which I found utterly unfair. He was dropped after that match and never featured significantly again. I wasn't surprised he wanted away - Walter treated a few players poorly, him, Gow, Buffel.

He's been captain all season, right? Some say it's a burden and he's suffering ill form from it, but tbh I just realised his form only dipped when Naisy got injured. Before that, Davis was playing well. Naisy has been the catalyst for a lot, but I'm not going there for now... The point is, possibly the captaincy is no burden to Davis, and his form is just suffering from the same crap the rest of the team is. That all said, he's not exactly leader material and never has been - but there wasn't really anyone else bar Boca.
-
Saw that myself. Why the crap do we want this guy - average player with a pretty crap attitude.

It seems to be a very convenient way to justify a failed signing. The 3 who didn't make their mark (Ortiz, Bedoya and McKay) 'weren't Ally signings'. All the ones who have done well, were. I'm not entirely convinced Ally would take a player he hadn't given the thumbs up to. Perhaps it really is just the case that 5 or 6 of his signings have worked out really well, and 3 haven't? Pretty decent return for a rookie manager if you ask me.

Would it not have been better to keep that quiet he played 0 times in that hotbed of football. He did, however, notch up 15 appearances in another hub of football that is China... Don't mean to be pedantic, but outwith Cahill, I can't think of many great Australian players currently plying their trade. What McKay did in the Aussie league is decent, but as shit as the SPL is, it's better than the A-League by a distance. I just feel if he was a truly a quality player, he'd have been plucked from the A-League years ago. That's what normally happens.

This seems to be a new trend - same happened with the 2 guys who ended up in court over the bullet thing. The press seems to be being a little more careful not to just assume it was a rival fan who did it. Or...more, accurately perhaps, not to explicitly say in their report that it 'was a rival fan'.
-
What happened to Lafferty was shocking, and shows the level a lot of football 'fans' will go to to 'hate' players from their rivals - attacking both him and his fiance is taking things to a new low. We've seen death threats against Novo, abuse against Dallas after the coin throwing incident, bullets posted to Lennon and the list disgustingly goes on. I think Gav's getting a hard time in this thread, and maybe a bit unfairly. I doubt there's a single person who honestly believes he didn't condemn what happened to Lafferty and mrs, although he probably would accept that the misunderstanding might have been helped if he'd posted that too. He is right that there's shits on both sides though, and the whole situation depresses me. That people will attack a pregnant woman in the name of football is showing how ill our society is.

Just thought I'd shamelessly whore/quote my blog : http://ibroxnoise.blogspot.com/2012/01/is-jelly-seton-leaving.html

I was told the source but annoyingly cannot share it. I also don't know how reliable it is. Time will tell I guess.
-
I agree all signings are gambles by their very nature, but the fact 5 or 6 of those signings have been successes and 3 have been blatant failures is pretty telling. That he hasn't been given a chance is, imo, reflective of what he shows in training and what he's shown in his fleeting appearances.

Corrected that for you there

28 year old who hadn't ever played outside Australia - a poor poor league and he'd not made the step up so many of his countrymen have well before 28. So what's your theory on why he's not getting gametime? Do you believe he's good enough?
-
I'll try to find out and if I get the information on it, will post it, exclusively, here, on....GERSNET!.
-
I was against the signing from the start, and had no reason to believe the guy was good enough. And now he wants out. What a disastrous failure of a signing he's been.
-
Can't substantiate it. Got it in a text. Not sure where it was sourced from.
-
Not really strange, he was in dire form before he faded from the first team. You have to be one of our 'invincibles' to have bad form and remain in the team. That said I do rate him, and I'd like to see him given a chance again - I think he offers something more than he gets credit for.

Gregg Wylde's agent has apparently said we're looking to offload him for £1M.
