  6. Chick Young's view on Celtic's Treble chase Tucked away in my wallet is a betting slip growing ever more valuable by the day: I invested - some time ago at a price of 100-30 - some hard-earned cash in the prospect of Celtic winning the domestic Treble. Actually, I tried to couple it with the prospect of Blackburn Rovers surviving in the English Premier League, because not for many a year have I seen anyone conduct themselves with such dignity and class as Steve Kean, but the turf accountant in question refused my bet. In any case, I digress. The champions elect stand - in reality - just three games from me welcoming my ship coming in, for they could not blow the title even if they asked John Prescott to be their midfield dynamo. So, Sunday's Communities League Cup final against Kilmarnock, a William Hill Scottish Cup semi against Hearts or St Mirren and a final in the wake of that… and I'll l be trousering my gotten gains. Celtic feel they have been squeezed off the back pages by the toil and trouble of the neighbours on the south side. And they might have a point… but bad news flogs newspapers. It is a fact. Every cloud has a silver lining. While Rangers hawk everything that isn't nailed down - and how they must wish someone had put a stake and tent pegs through the Arsenal shares - tree fellers in the Amazonian rain forests are banking bonuses as they try to keep up with the demand for newsprint. And yet it would be crass not to applaud the players at Ibrox who agreed to a 75% wage cut. Would you do it to bring your employer salvation, especially if you had the prospect of a new job at your previous salary? I'll leave your own conscience to percolate. Frankly I can't blame Celtic if they currently feel as if they must have put an X on their coupon for 'no publicity'. But they do deserve a bit of credit for a) what they have achieved and b) massaging my bank balance. Celtic manager Neil Lennon Prove me wrong, Kilmarnock, prove me wrong St Mirren or Hearts and Aberdeen or Hibs… but I still believe that the Parkhead trophy cabinet will be like a jeweller's window before May has breathed its last. It is utter hogwash to suggest their victories are faded out because of an impotent Rangers, limp with the exhaustion of their financial toils. Remember that 15-point lead? Around that time the Ibrox club still couldn't beat Malmo nor Maribor nor Falkirk nor later Dundee United as they evaporated from cup competitions like the tooth fairy in the night. Celtic are the best team in the country and are entitled to instigate a party which might run from Sunday until the end of May. But then what? Do we have worthy champions who can make a genuine dent in the Champions' League and can Motherwell - now poised to be our other representatives - hang on to their coat tails at least until the domestic season is under way again? Too good for Scotland, still ill-equipped for the Big Boys' playground? Celtic's real test will come in the European months between July and Christmas in the three or maybe five years to come, during which they will face no domestic challenge worth the name from Rangers, who will be leaden booted with financial restraint. That is why Neil Lennon will take a baseball bat to any suggestion of complacency and insist on raising the bar yet again in the summer transfer market. Have you see the quality on offer in the latter stages of the two European competitions? On which subject, incidentally, if I hear anyone else suggest that the English Premier League is better than La Liga, I'll insist on launching another Armada making its way to Plymouth Sound. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/scotland/17356487 Get it right roon ye DUNG

  8. I don't think there is any need to turn this thread into abusing a Rangers player tbh, whether anybody thinks he is a good player or not he has stood up to the plate through this most troubled time in our clubs history. He has showed what class he has and what a true Gers man he is.

  13. Killie just scored, there will be another inquiry if the BHEASTS are not allowed to win the treble,no doubt they'll get a penalty
  14. A HIGH Court judge has halted an action by businessman Dermot Desmond which was aimed at setting aside High Court and Supreme Court decisions rejecting complaints by him about certain conduct of the Moriarty tribunal. The millionaire businessman had brought proceedings seeking declarations that the High Court, in 2003, and the Supreme Court, in a judgment on a 2004 appeal, were misled by reason of fraud on behalf of the tribunal. The tribunal was set up to inquire into payments to the late taoiseach Charles Haughey and to former Fine Gael minister Michael Lowry. It had applied to have Mr Desmond’s action struck out on grounds it was frivolous, vexatious, bound to fail and an abuse of the court process. Yesterday Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne said she was not satisfied Mr Desmond’s case, taken at its height, had alleged fraud in the true sense or that his statement of claim disclosed a reasonable cause of action. His case was one that must fail, she said. Mr Desmond’s proceedings arose out of previous separate judicial review proceedings brought by him against the tribunal over its use of the Glackin 1993 report concerning the ownership of the Johnston, Mooney and O’Brien site in Ballsbridge, Dublin. The Glackin report made findings critical of Mr Desmond. When dealing with the matter of the awarding of the first mobile phone licence to Esat Digifone, as it related to Mr Lowry, the tribunal heard evidence from John Loughrey, secretary of Mr Lowry’s department at the time, who said he had read the Glackin report and was aware of its criticisms. Arising out of the use by the tribunal of the Glackin report, Mr Desmond brought judicial review proceedings claiming the tribunal had not afforded him fair procedures. He argued the report was not relevant and that inadequate notice about the likelihood of witnesses being examined about it meant his ability to defend himself was compromised. The High Court dismissed those proceedings saying the tribunal was entitled, if not obliged, to investigate how the evaluation team for the mobile phone licence was under the erroneous impression as to the true ownership of the consortium behind Esat. The evaluation team was under the impression certain financial institutions owned part of Esat when Mr Desmond had actually acquired that particular interest just a month before the licence was issued in October 1995, the High Court noted in its judgment. The tribunal therefore needed to investigate if Mr Desmond, or investment firm IIU, which was beneficially owned by him, had avoided the evaluation process, the court found. The tribunal had also to inquire into whether this was the result of any intervention by, or exertion of influence by, then minister Lowry, the court also said. The Supreme Court, on appeal in 2004, agreed with the High Court and dismissed Mr Desmond’s case. Yesterday Ms Justice Dunne said there was “simply nothing” in Mr Desmond’s pleadings such as alleged fraud in the true sense so as to satisfy the requirement for setting aside the two courts’ judgments on grounds of fraud.
  15. So, just why did Craig Whyte buy Rangers? Any answers? From anybody? Itâ??s a question akin to, how long is a piece of string. But letâ??s look at some of the things which have happened, some of the links and possible links, between some of the people involved and those who would stand to gain from the demise of Rangers. And the starting point is a back page lead story in the Sun which appeared a couple of years ago and which raised the hoary old tale of the Old Firm decamping to the English Premier League. Except, this story was different, though it took a bit of digging to discover how different. On the surface the story seemed to focus, not so much on the Old Firm moving to the top flight in England, but on Celtic quitting Scotland. My information is that, despite the name of a Scottish Sun sports writer adorning the story did not write it as it was passed up the line to the Scottish Sun editor David Dinsmore from Rupertâ??s favourite, the now disgraced Rebekah Brooks, who was then News International chief executive London, with instructions that it should be used as the back page lead. Curious! But given the relationship between her and Rupert Murdoch, it is reasonable to assume Rupertâ??s fingerprints were all over this story. Rupert Murdoch is of course a billionaire who moves in the sort of circles inhabited by other billionaires. Celticâ??s sugar daddy, Dermot Desmond is another billionaire. Desmond has long longed for a place in the Premiership for Celtic. He has courted many top Fleet Street names, going so far as to fly the Daily Telegraphâ??s Paul Hayward to Seville in his private jet. Rupert Murdoch is also of course the big cheese who owns Sky Sports, whose mega money sustains the English Premiership and who has enough influence to make it easier for Celtic and Desmond to fulfill their ambition. At the time of the Sun story which focused on Celtic, Rangers were still reeling from the fall out from events in Manchester. Was Rupert Murdoch persuaded that a solo Celtic bid for the Premiership would be looked on more favourably? Now let us examine what has happened since. For a start, Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell has tried to ditch the ancient Old Firm brand which has linked the two teams for over a century. WHY? Fast forward again and come to the current crisis which has engulfed the Ibrox club as a direct consequence of Craig Whyteâ??s reckless reign. Was it reckless? Or something more? That is hard to answer, just as it is hard to discover the visible means of financial support which funds conman Whyteâ??s lavish multi millionaire lifestyle. Nobody can discover where Whyte gets his cash from. I use the word CASH deliberately as his only known banking arrangement is a client account with Collyer Bristow, filled with £24.4M of money he is now accused of getting his hands on fraudulently. Whyteâ??s actions â?? reckless or otherwise â?? drove Rangers to the brink of extinction. And that danger has not yet passed. And while all of this was going on, Peter Lawwell made a point with picking a fight with just about everyone in Scotland, from first minister Alex Salmond down, telling them Celtic can prosper without Rangers. In Scotland? Well, the always fly as they come Lawwell did not make that clear. Does Lawwell believe â?? and does Dermot Desmond also believe â?? that Celticâ??s chances of gate crashing the English Premier League are increased without Rangers being part of the deal? It certainly is coming across that way and a number of shrewd observers, many of then veteran Parkhead and Lawwell watchers, agree with that scenario. Letâ??s now return to the Scottish Sun. Remember they broke that original story which looked to have Sun proprietor Rupert Murdochâ??s fingerprints all over it. Murdoch the Sky owning billionaire, who moves in the same circles as Dermot Desmond, the Celtic owning billionaire. Many media people have been baffled by the way the Sun have covered the WHYTE SCANDAL, continuing to support conman Whyte long after everyone else had seen him exposed as a huckster. I cannot recall such a long slow succession of baffling blunders of support for someone like Whyte by a mass circulation national newspaper in my near half century in newspapers. Even some of those inside the Scottish Sunâ??s Queen Street headquarters canâ??t understand it. Nobody believes these decisions have been taken by the men on the editorial floor in Glasgow. By the time the Sun, owned by the same man who owns Sky, Rupert Murdoch, finally edged away from Craig Whyte, the conman was completely exposed as a trickster and a huckster, by a succession of stories brilliantly dug out and produced by the Daily Record. When the first of those Record exposures broke, had that great old tabloid man , former Sun editor Kelvin McKenzie, been in charge, his famous about turn cry of â??reverse ferretâ? would have been echoing around the editorial floor. Whatever the reason â?? and it is a mystery â?? the way the Sun have performed could cost them their lead over the Record in the circulation stakes. But none of the above â?? no matter how logical and reasoned a number of sane sensible and sober people from the worlds of the media, the law and banking have agreed it is â?? answers the original question. Just why did Craig Whyte buy Rangers? Or, indeed, who it is who pays for a man of no visible means to live a lavish lifestyle as though he is the multi millionaire he has provided no proof of being. It is nonsense to suggest Rupert Murdoch has the answers. Or Dermot Desmond. But does one of them know anyone else, possibly in London, who may be able to provide an answer? http://leggoland2.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/rupert-murdoch-dermot-desmond-and-craig.html
  16. Lee McCulloch admits he's gutted Rangers' financial crisis has robbed him of shot at Four-in-a-Row Lee McCulloch drove into Murray Park on February 13 buoyed by the belief Rangers were still on course for Four-in-a-Row. But when the midfielder left the training ground five hours later he was certain their title was gone â?? and that was the least of his worries. McCulloch feared he was set for the scrapheap and that Rangers might go under after Craig Whyte told the players the club was entering administration. The 33-year-old didnâ??t know what to expect when Whyte and sidekick Ali Russell came into the dressing-room for a meeting with the squad. But he soon felt a feeling of dread deep inside as the scale of the problems at Ibrox finally became clear. As he looked around the dressing-room McCulloch could see disbelief etched across the faces of his team-mates. Some players asked questions in a bid to paint a clearer picture of the clubâ??s murky future but Whyteâ??s answers were far from convincing. They werenâ??t the first to be far from impressed by the shamed Ibrox owner and they wonâ??t be the last. Now McCulloch hopes he is removed once and for all and replaced by someone capable of taking the club forward. He told MailSport: â??Whyte came into the dressing room on the day we went into administration. He was accompanied by Russell and explained what might happen in terms of the tax problems and the financial situation. â??He also told us he had a plan to make sure things would be fine. That was the last time he spoke to us. â??We didnâ??t have many dealings with him. He was rarely in the dressing room and kept his distance from the players. â??I couldnâ??t see any of this coming. I was shocked and deeply disappointed when it all started to unravel. And there are many questions still to be answered. â??When I think back to the euphoria of winning the league at Kilmarnock last season, the situation we are in now is frightening. I would never have believed we would be in administration. Iâ??m still stunned by it. â??The fact we have missed out on the chance to win Four-in-a-Row has been overlooked. â??Before we went into administration Celtic were just four points ahead but we were then deducted 10 points. Had we not suffered that penalty I would have fancied our chances of winning the league. â??We still had to play Celtic twice with the first clash taking place at Ibrox. And Iâ??d fancy us at home. â??However, that opportunity to win the league again has been taken away from us. Mismanagement on so many different levels, for such a long time, has cost us. It makes me angry. â??A lot of people think Celtic would have won the league anyway but weâ??ll never know. I would have fancied us going into the final 10 games. â??It bugs me that we have been deprived of this through no fault of our own. Purely from a footballing point of view, thatâ??s the biggest crime of all. â??Now I hope things can settle down and someone buys the club. We need stability and direction. â??I donâ??t want Rangers to lose its identity and history. Thatâ??s the biggest thing. That has to be preserved at all costs. â??Weâ??ve won more league titles than any other club in the world and we donâ??t want that to disappear.â? When the club went into administration several players were in danger of being axed to help meet required cuts of around £1million per month. McCulloch was one of the stars set to be sacrificed but the squad negotiated day and night for more than two weeks to come up with a plan to save jobs. It was difficult to please all parties but a settlement was reached whereby players would take cuts of between 25 per cent and 75 per cent, depending on their salary. McCulloch, though, actually offered to play for NOTHING. The midfielder, who was part of the player committee, said: â??Weâ??ve been successful on the pitch in the last three years and we didnâ??t want to be split in two through no fault of our own. â??This has shown there is great unity between the players and that we have a compassionate side, something footballers are often accused of not having. â??I never wanted to leave. The happiest time of my career has been playing for Rangers. I wasnâ??t for giving up on that. We were involved in loads of meetings with the playersâ?? union and a couple with the administrators. â??We wanted definitive answers but it wasimpossible to get them as quickly as we wanted for a variety of reasons. So many different scenarios were being put to us and it was said we could be out of a job after our game against Inverness last month. â??But we survived and kept things going. At times I felt more like a lawyer and an accountant than I did a footballer. I probably also felt like a politician. â??I have taken a 75 percent wage cut and that is a big ask. Yes, we have comfortable lifestyles as footballers and you sort of live life to your means. â??But I spoke to the PFA and the lawyers and got something in writing to state I was willing to play for nothing until the end of the season. It was given to the administrators and I would have taken a 100 per cent cut. â??I wanted to help save jobs. I also wanted to keep playing for Rangers. Itâ??s a huge club. They has been kind to me over the years so the offer I made was a genuine one and in a weird way it was the chance to give something back.â? McCullochâ??s dedication to the Ibrox cause was highlighted again yesterday when he slotted in as a makeshift defender in the 2-1 defeat at Dundee United. And heâ??ll savour every match after fearing his Gers career was over. He said: â??After going into administration we lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock. I came off the park thinking it was last the time Iâ??d get the privilege of wearing the Rangers jersey. I was emotional as I left the pitch. â??I wanted to stand and applaud the fans, to thank them for their support over the years, but couldnâ??t bring myself to do it. â??I was disappointed at losing and felt I had no right to stand around. â??We managed to hold on for a week and I then scored when we won 4-1 at Inverness. On the bus journey back we had a couple of beers and a few of us were speaking as if that would be our last game together. Thankfully, we were wrong.â? Yesterdayâ??s defeat at Tannadice means Celtic could clinch the title at Ibrox next weekend but McCulloch is confident of avoiding that nightmare scenario. He said: â??We have two derbies still to play and thereâ??s no reason why we canâ??t win both. We can finish on a high.â? http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sunday-mail/2012/03/18/lee-mcculloch-admits-he-s-gutted-rangers-financial-crisis-has-robbed-him-of-shot-at-four-in-a-row-86908-23792227/
  17. RANGERSâ?? administrators are expecting a fourth offer for the club from a Middle East group. Three bid were lodged on Friday from the Blue Knights consortium fronted by former Ibrox director Paul Murray, Sale Sharks rugby club owner Brian Kennedy and Club 9 Sports, based in Chicago. But Paul Clark of Duff and Phelps revealed he expects another offer over the next 48 hours. He said: â??I wonâ??t name names, but there are extra parties keeping to themselves and getting on with it. â??One party said they would not be able to make an indicative bid by last Fridayâ??s deadline and asked if that meant they were out, but it doesnâ??t. â??Weâ??re happy to speak to people until weâ??re in a closed-out period. They appear to be credible and weâ??ll see what they bring. ì I wonâ??t name names, but there are extra parties keeping to themselves and getting on with it î Paul Clark â??If anybody else new comes along we will still listen to them. Weâ??re going to get on and move it forward now, but itâ??s not too late.â? Murray had hoped the sale could be concluded quickly, but Clark has cautioned against that. He has also stressed an emotional attachment to the Ibrox club is less of a factor than which bid has the most financial clout. Clark said: â??Itâ??s a time for cool heads. Weâ??ve had bids and weâ??re pleased with them but there are still several big issues we need to deal with. â??Weâ??re going to get on and move it forward now. â??There was comment about whether we could get it resolved before Old Firm game. â??That would be very optimistic. It will be clearer by that stage but I donâ??t think the position will be completely resolved. â??We have to work out what each bid means and then sit down face to face with the parties and go through it and make sure we know what the deal will look like. â??I donâ??t think we can give any substantial weight to an emotional attachment to the club, so really itâ??s about the financial side of it. â??What I would say is that those with an emotional attachment and financial backing would find themselves well-placed. â??Itâ??s mainly about how much money theyâ??re sticking into the creditorsâ?? pot but having said that there are within the offers for several of them details of how they see the club going forward and we take that into account. â??But, principally, itâ??s about what goes into the creditorsâ?? pot.â? Clark also revealed he has met Craig Whyte during the past week in an attempt to resolve his own demands. He added: â??Weâ??ve had ongoing discussions with Craig to try and finalise some of these issues. â??I remain confident Craig Whyteâ??s position will not be an impediment to a sale. â??I wonâ??t say exactly what that means, but weâ??ve had discussions and we think it can be resolved.â? Clark has admitted the decision of the SPL and SFA to investigate Rangers is ill-timed from the administratorsâ?? perspective. He said: â??Itâ??s unfortunate that there are so many issues. â??It would have made our life easier if they didnâ??t exist, but we understand why they exist. â??I donâ??t think any bidder has been warned off by it, but theyâ??re asking if there is any more to come. â??At some point weâ??ll have to go to the football authorities and say, â??Is this it or is there other things coming round the corner?â?? â??Itâ??s noise we could do without, but itâ??s necessary for the football club. We need to go through this.â? http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/308821/Middle-East-bid-expected-for-Rangers
  18. Rangers manager Ally McCoist was one of the key targets in Scotland of newspapers illegally trading in personal data including phone numbers, health details, bank information, police records and private addresses. inShare Rangers manager Ally McCoist Rangers manager Ally McCoist Following investigations by the Sunday Herald, it is understood the news was broken to McCoist on Friday night. Details about McCoist appeared numerous times in documents looked at by the Operation Motorman inquiry team. Motorman was a 2003 investigation set up by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) to probe offences under the Data Protection Act by the press including "blagging" â?? the term for obtaining information by subterfuge â?? and also paying for information from corrupt officials. Blagging is not against the law if it is in the public interest. It is not known if the embattled football manager, currently dealing with the fallout from Rangers' administration, was targeted by a particular newspaper or several of the many titles listed by Motorman, which included around 20 national newspapers and several magazines. The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times were not named in the investigation. Famous Scots names already mentioned in media reports on Motorman include former rugby player Kenny Logan and his wife, Gabby. The families of Dunblane massacre victims Aimie Adam and Matthew Birnie have also been named as subjects in the Motorman files, following requests for ex-directory numbers by reporters. McCoist was one of numerous Scots-based names in the Motorman dossier, according to the lead investigator for the ICO who probed the cases. Former special-branch police officer Alec Owens probed data breaches that had been carried out by private eye Steve Whittamore on behalf of journalists. They allegedly included accessing police records, DVLA details, bank and health records, and phone numbers. Speaking for the first time about the Scottish aspects of Motorman, Owens said one of the main victims of repeated blagging attempts in the Motorman record of 4000 names was McCoist. Owens said there were numerous Scottish phone numbers and postcodes among the lists of victims and journalists, adding that he travelled to Scotland to prepare a test case for possible prosecutions that, to his dismay, failed to transpire. He also claimed an unnamed Scottish journalist on an unnamed Scottish paper was one of the "top 10" targets for prosecution among over 300 reporters listed. Owens has been a vocal critic of the ICO's decision not to prosecute journalists over the investigation's findings, and contacted the Leveson inquiry about his concerns. After whistleblowing, his home was later raided by police just days before he was due to give evidence to the inquiry. During the raid officers demanded documents relating to Operation Motorman. Owens had provided details of Motorman to Strathclyde Police to aid its investigations. Whittamore, the private detective at the heart of Operation Motorman, was brought to court and pleaded guilty to illegally obtaining confidential information and was given a two-year conditional discharge. Owens said of the Motorman investigation: "Ally McCoist came up. He appears very strongly in the documentation." Alluding to his claims that senior figures at the ICO were unwilling to take on the press by prosecuting journalists, Owens added: "We didn't get round to informing [McCoist] because by that time we'd been told to back off. "Amongst the files there were a lot of Scottish telephone numbers for reporters, a lot of Scottish numbers like 0141, 0131. A lot of numbers I recognised as Scottish. There were a lot of victims in Motorman that could be related as Scottish." Owens and his team also spoke to numerous "ordinary" men and women who were victims of blagging. He said: "We were trying to get a full picture of the types of people they were going after. We didn't want people accusing us later, saying: 'You went after Hugh Grant and Charlotte Church', and we were just looking after celebrities." HE expressed his frustration at not being allowed to take on rogue reporters, saying: "There was a lot of information about ... Scottish reporters. One in particular, who I can't name, came out very strongly and, had we been allowed to do the job we wanted to do, he would have been in the top 10." Owens said he gave officers on Operation Rubicon, the ongoing Strathclyde Police probe into phone-hacking and breaches of data protection, details of his own investigation. Officers from the Major Investigation Team have been ordered by the Crown Office to examine some of the evidence presented during the Tommy Sheridan perjury trial. Strathclyde is liaising with the Metropolitan Police over any Scottish dimension to the Met's current investigations. Owens insisted that, as a former policeman, he would never wish to do anything to jeopardise an ongoing inquiry like Rubicon, saying: "I'm not prepared to hide any information I've got. If the Information Commissioner is not going to be open, I am." Strathclyde Police have declined to comment on Owens's revelations. A spokesman for the Information Commissioner's Office also said there would be no comment on specific names in the Motorman paperwork. "Anyone wishing to see what, if anything, is recorded about them in the Motorman files has always been able to exercise their right to make a Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act to our office," the ICO spokesman added. McCoist said he did not wish to comment on the revelations. A call for the Motorman files to be made public was made last week by the Hacked Off campaign, which includes the actor Hugh Grant. http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/home-news/mccoist-named-as-victim-of-black-market-in-illegal-information.17056549
  19. By TOM ENGLISH Published on Sunday 18 March 2012 00:00 FOR some time now, Campbell Ogilvie has been on the fringes of the Rangers crisis, not a central player in the downfall of the club like Craig Whyte and Sir David Murray, but still a member of the wider cast of characters in this great, and continuing, drama. As a Rangers employee from 1978 to 2005 and company secretary when the contentious EBT scheme was introduced, the current president of the SFA has been the subject of rumour and innuendo, some of it explicable, other parts inexcusable. What is indisputable is that Ogilvie has questions to answer about his Ibrox years and some of the things that went on while he was in office. In the two years since the EBT bomb started ticking, Ogilvie has said nothing, bar a statement issued the other day. He has said little on the double contracts issue either, a story that is potentially ruinous if true. Here is the problem. Regardless of what he knew or didnâ??t know and irrespective of whether he was in on the (possibly disastrous and illegal) decision-making or just a relative bystander in Sir David Murrayâ??s regime, how can Ogilvie stay in the highest office at Hampden while so many serious allegations hang over his old club dating back to his time there? Ogilvieâ??s former colleague at Ibrox, Hugh Adam, has said not once but twice that double contracts were used at Rangers in Ogilvieâ??s time. This is the dynamite that could, if proven, blow Rangers sky high. Double contracts break every rule in the book. If the story has substance, that is. Ogilvie says they didnâ??t exist, Adam has said they did, but he has also said that Ogilvie probably didnâ??t know about them. This is complex stuff. â??David [Murray] was secretive and kept these things to himself,â? said Adam. On Friday morning, Ogilvie spoke at last. For the zealots out there who see conspiracy around every corner there were no questions ruled out and no areas deemed off limits. Clearly he has been stung by what has been said about him and the aspersions that have been cast on his character. â??Before I got the presidency there was a lot of suggestions that I shouldnâ??t even get it,â? he said. â??I accept that, having worked at Ibrox for many years, there will be some people who are not happy with someone from that background coming in.â? So this was his reply. Belated, but important none the less. â??The SPL are looking into this,â? he says of the allegations levelled by Adam. â??I have not been approached by the SPL, but if I am I would be happy to speak to them. I donâ??t know how they are setting up their inquiry. Iâ??m delighted the SFA one [into Craig Whyte] was independent and I was more than happy to speak to them. I welcome the SPL inquiry because there is so much stuff flying about. I would be more than happy to answer any questions. Iâ??ve got a clear conscience.â? Ogilvie, as he has stated, had an EBT. On Friday, he revealed its details. He was paid £15,000 in three lumps of £5,000 between 2001 and 2003. He didnâ??t believe that there was anything iffy about them. â??In my own case, it was an offer of a discretionary bonus or a contribution into the trust. I chose to pay into the trust and I can then apply for a loan from the trust. I got three payments between 2001 and 2003. It was a £5,000 each payment and then on the termination of my employment [at Rangers in 2005], as part of my settlement, I got a figure of £80,000. The whole thing is centred around loans. Itâ??s a very technical issue but you have to repay the loans, yes. Itâ??s over a period of time.â? So everybodyâ??s still repaying these loans? What is it, 50p a week? A pound? Or were they all indemnified against ever having to repay them? Were the loans actually salaries by another name? This is what the HMRC has been fighting over. It doesnâ??t believe what Rangers did was legal. â??I remember at the time they came in, the Murray Group took a lot of legal and accountancy and tax advice. As far as I was concerned they were legally set up with the backing of the accountants of the lawyers and they were operated legally. I canâ??t remember who put me into the scheme but I didnâ??t question it because it was set up perfectly legally.â? But we donâ??t know that. HMRC has begged to differ and it might yet cost Rangers a lot of money. Ogilvieâ??s defence is that he assumed all was well, an assumption he, perhaps, regrets now. â??Well, I was a director. I might not have been involved in the bigger decisions but Iâ??m not going to go and hide from the fact that I was a director. At no time would I walk away and say I didnâ??t have a responsibility. Looking at the situation the club finds itself in now I regret very much that this has happened. I donâ??t know what I could have done. Maybe I should have questioned things more.â? In this regard, and in others, he is passing the responsibility back to Murray, probably with reasonable cause. â??You know the way the club was run. I was a director and we had a controlling shareholder who ran the club. David came in as the controlling shareholder and having invested the money, he decided to run the club the way he did. â??I never did contract negotiations as such. Up until Graeme Souness came in we had a standard wage across the board. I think it was about £280 a week. Every player was on the same wage, believe it or not. There werenâ??t really negotiations, it was more about filling in forms. When it came to contracts and players coming up from England, we had financial people in the club who would deal with that. â??Iâ??m not an accountant so these would fall into the hands of the people who are qualified to deal with that. It started to change in the mid-to-late 1980s and then by the mid-1990s I wasnâ??t dealing with them at all. I relinquished my football administrative post in 2002 and went on to a role which was something like director of strategy. To be blunt my role had changed dramatically by then. From 2002, when John McLelland put in a new structure, I got this new role as director of football strategy. In effect I was Rangersâ?? committee man on the SFA and SPL. I was doing less and less and it came to a point in 2005 that having been involved for so many areas, I felt I wasnâ??t as involved. I then decided to move on, simple as that. I didnâ??t want to leave but equally I didnâ??t want the role I now had.â? His position now has been uncomfortable this past while. For £20,000 a year (his actual salary as opposed to the six figures that have been quoted online), heâ??s drawing a lot of heat. Friday was his attempt to deal with certain insinuations. He repeats that he welcomes an inquiry (independent or otherwise) and will give evidence if asked, he stresses that he thought the EBTs were checked-out and deemed legal and that no double contracts existed at Rangers or Hearts while he was in office. All of this should be examined in the inquiry. You would hope that the SPLâ??s investigation is properly independent and thorough and transparent. This is serious stuff. Reputations are on the line. Integrity is the watchword. To dispel the rumours and establish the truth, they must get this right, for the good of the game and the people within. http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday/sport/rangers-administration-campbell-ogilvie-full-of-regrets-and-wonders-if-he-could-have-done-more-1-2181094

Murray's consortium of wealthy fans is one of only two confirmed bids. More are expected. Rangers already owe the taxman close to £15million and the so-called 'big tax case' could cost another £49million. But Murray said: "With the club in administration, liabilities are just piled on to each other. "If the club were to lose the case, which is still not certain, that liability is added to the liabilities that are there now. "In very simple terms, if there is £50million for creditors at the moment and that rises to £100million it just simply affects the pence in the pound that is available for the creditors." Murray believes his co-operation with Ticketus, who will provide initial financial backing without receiving ownership rights, is a huge advantage. A £24.4million cash injection from Ticketus allowed Craig Whyte to complete his £1 buyout by paying off the club's bank debt. Murray said: "By entering into a partnership with Ticketus, you essentially remove Ticketus from the pot. "So our offer is worth considerably more than any others because Ticketus is not part of the CVA." 21. CHANNEL Four reporter Alex Thomson has been roped into an anti-Rangers campaign by Republic of Ireland based Philmacgiollabhain and rabid Celtic fan Matt McGlone. Thomson was recruited after a McGlone move to involve the BBC’s London based Hugh Pymn, failed. McGlone got close to Pymn when the reporter covered the Celtic rebels takeover in 1994. Philmacgiollabhain and McGlone now believe they have their man and will be able to set the agenda for, Alex Thomson the chief reporter of the left leaning Jon Snow fronted Channel Four News programme. Thomson says he wants to probe how Rangers have been run. We all know the problems faced by the Ibrox club during the nine months conman Craig Whyte was in charge, but the clear implication from the Channel Four reporter is he has been given information stretching years back beyond that. For Thomson has already reported that he has had a row with the Scottish Football Association over wild allegations he is believed to have made about president Campbell Ogilvie. Ogilvie, who previously worked for Rangers, has been targeted by Philmacgiollabhain, who is on record as writing that he hopes Rangers die. Now it seems that he wants to torpedo SFA president Ogilvie too and has recruited Channel Four’s Alex Thomson as the useful idiot to do his dirty work. Philmacgiollababhain has also recruited the endorsement of well known extremist Republican, Celtic fanatic, Matt McGlone. McGlone has given his backing on Twitter to Channel Four’s Thomson and the reporter’s declared aim to target Rangers and Ogilvie. Philmacgiollabhain has been in Twitter conversation with Alex Thomson and it is believed the two may have also spoken privately and could be planning to meet in Glasgow to plot their attack. Alex Thomson has boldly declared that he and a Channel Four camera crew are due to touch down in Glasgow on Monday to begin filming their Philmacgiollabhain-Matt McGlone inspired hatchet job on Rangers and Ogilvie. Philmacgiollabhain is also believed to be due to arrive in Glasgow today from his hideaway lair in Donegal. Hampden is buzzing with talk that he is due to take his place in the press seats at Sunday’s Scottish League Cup Final. Scottish journalists heading for Hampden have already been tipped off and placed on red alert and are preparing plans to ensure they can avoid being pestered by Philmacgiollabhain as they were when they were in Dublin with Scotland. It is also believed that Irish Republican ranter Philmacgiollabhain and McGlone may meet after the match to get their script ready for when Alex Thomson lands in Glasgow the following day. This is just the latest in a series of disgraceful and totally unsubstantiated slurs from bitter and extremist Irish Republican and Celtic cyberspace aimed at discrediting the totally blameless Campbell Ogilvie, a completely honest man of utter integrity, who I first met more than 30 years ago. It is to be hoped that despite the Celtic background these dreadful slurs are coming from, Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell, who sits around the SFA boardroom table with Ogilvie, declares himself as totally divorced from this low and dishonest campaign. Lawwell should also declare, without ambiguity, that he knows Campbell Ogilvie and knows him to be a decent, honest and honourable man. As everyone who knows Ogilvie knows him to be. It should also be made clear by Lawwell’s SFA boardroom pal, SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, that he too knows Campbell Ogilvie to be beyond such suspicion and above reproach. Regan has said so much already, but it would be well for him to keep saying it. Keep shouting it from the rooftops. In fact, the pair, Lawwell and Regan, who work in tandem behind the scenes, should come out as a public double act to effectively shoot down this Philmacgiollabhain-Matt McGlone inspired Channel Four hatchet job. Campbell Ogilvie is of course more than capable of defending his own honour and integrity with intelligence and sober, sound argument and I can confidently predict that he will do so by putting his cards on the table in the Sunday newspapers…. Spiking the guns of extremist pair, Philmacgiollabhain and Matt McGlone, along with their specially recruited useful idiot, left leaning Channel Four News’ Alex Thomson. …….. AND…… HAVING already mentioned Scottish Football Association board member and Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell in one context, here is he popping up in another. And having manager Neil Lennon do his dirty work for him. Celtic have banned the Daily Record after a row over the paper’s story about Celtic refusing to pay up front for their tickets for next weekend’s Old Firm game at Ibrox. Lawwell vehemently denies entering into any such a gentleman’s agreement. Well, he would, wouldn’t he? Think about it! The Record, just as confidently, have declared they are sure of their ground and certain they have the proof to confirm their story, as they would have to should Lawwell decide to sue. So just why, instead of a ban on the Daily Record, does Peter Lawwell not settle the matter in the Court of Session? Your guess is as good as mine. .........FINALLY...... ARE you looking forward to another - ANOTHER? - penetrating, incisive, well written and well informed column from Odious Creep in tomorrow's fast fading Sunday Herald? With bated breath? No, me neither! http://leggoland2.blogspot.co.uk/

  23. Brian Kennedy has confirmed plans to lure Graeme Souness back to Rangers if he wins control of the Ibrox club. The Cheshire-based businessman has also admitted an interest in recruiting Walter Smith in a director-of-football role ahead of lodging a formal offer for the club by Friday’s deadline. Former manager Smith publicly granted his backing to Paul Murray’s Blue Knights earlier this week. And Kennedy, the owner of Sale Sharks, admits he fully expects to lose out to the fan-backed consortium. After speaking ‘at length’ with former Ibrox boss Souness, Sir David Murray and manager Ally McCoist, however, the 51-year-old Edinburgh-born tycoon confirmed Sportsmail’s revelation that he will be a bidder for the distressed club. ‘I think there is a big job to be done,’ said Kennedy. ‘There is something to be effectively resurrected here from scratch. And, if you are going to do that, then you would be foolish not to utilise the expertise and experience of such people as Graeme Souness and Walter Smith. ‘I have not spoken to Walter, not at this stage. But Graeme is a personal friend, so I have talked to him at length about Rangers. But I have not taken it any further than that — as yet. Purely because we have to see where this goes first before we shout about these things from the hilltops. ‘I also met Ally McCoist last week and that was just a getting-to-know-him exercise. He is such a lovely lad and very capable.’ In addition to Kennedy and the Blue Knights, American investment bank Fortress are also reported to have expressed interest with administrators Duff & Phelps, while a Singapore consortium led by Glasgow-based businessman Shazad Bakhsh have also been linked. However, Kennedy — a former owner of Stockport County — is intrigued by the prospect of assisting a huge club in the throes of a financial maelstrom, insisting he will do so out of a sense of duty. ‘I hope to get something in by Friday purely as a fallback for the administrators, should any of the bids fall over or not be acceptable. If I am going to be in a position where they ask me to press on with it, then I want to know a little more about it. ‘But where I am in terms of a scale from one to 10 is probably close to one and a half. ‘I’m not sure how the administrators are going to play it. Or what their strategy is. I think they are just looking to get the best possible deal. ‘I suspect that will not be mine. I suspect Paul Murray will present a better bid and I maintain that would be the right thing to do.’

  25. ADMINISTRATORS expect four "serious" bids to be lodged to buy Rangers by tomorrow's deadline but will leave the door ajar for more talks with other interested groups. So far, the Blue Knights consortium led by former director Paul Murray and an individual offer from Edinburgh born businessman Brian Kennedy have been confirmed. And last night pending bids from American Investmen Bank, Fortress ,and another fronted by Glasgow based Singaporean Shazad Bakhsh were also validated. It's unclear whether the New York based investment group wants the club in their own right or are part of a consortium as discussions with them are on-going. The Singapore interest though includes financial backing from the Far East itself. Sources say they do not expect any massive bidding war to begin tomorrow but say " the landscape " will become much clearer for Rangers future. Administrators meanwhile will be at the Court of Session in Edinburgh today alongwith lawyers representing Ticketus in a hearing which could clarify the status of the London ticket brokers as far as any sale is concerned. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/308202
