Angus Macleod in yesterday's Times: "Drunken tangle on Stairway 13."

You can only imagine what the people who lost relatives and friends on this terrible day must be thinking when they read the likes of this shite, shame on him. -
And so he should relish playing against them, the guy is in the form of his life and loves to score against the BHEASTS,he is one player the BHEASTS would love to be injured for this one. Hatrick this time Kenny?

Two tragedies linked by the cruellest twists of fate. "It had, according to the radio commentary on the BBC Scottish Home Service, been a tame Old Firm encounter but with a highly-dramatic finale. Two goals - one for each team - in the last minute of the game. The doyen of Scottish football commentators, David Francey, was at his loquacious best, injecting colour into an all-too-drab winter's afternoon in Glasgow. Before he signed off, he made mention of "something bad" appearing to have happened on the terracing at the Rangers end. In those days, "something bad" at an Old Firm match meant flying bottles and cans and police rushing in where ordinary mortals would fear to tread, to seize the perpetrators. But not this time. It wasn't that kind of "something bad", he thought. An hour later, news bulletins were talking of injuries, of scores of ambulancemen and women at the scene, of people being led away or carried out on stretchers - "something bad" had become "a major incident". With every television and radio bulletin that night on January 2, 1971, the toll mounted. Ten dead... 20... 30... I was home from university for New Year on the Isle of Lewis and in those days you couldn't get a Sunday paper there until Monday. And when we finally got them (around noon!), there was only one story. The Scottish Daily Express and Daily Record had pictures of the walking wounded, of club scarves peeking out from under the blankets that covered the dead. The back pages hardly bothered with the game. The peerless John Rafferty in The Scotsman wrote as only he could of fleeting triumph and sombre disaster following fast on one another. The papers asked how this could have happened and answered their own question with stories of one fan having tripped and fallen, bringing others down. Other papers told stories of fans who had decided to go at the last minute - and died. The drunken tangle on Stairway 13 became an enduring image of a day that made a mockery of the import too many of us place on football. Lewis had known tragedy at New Year. On January 1, 1919, more than 200 servicemen coming home from the Great War perished when the Admiralty yacht Iolaire struck rocks a mile out from Stornoway Harbour. Suddenly that New Year's weekend on Lewis, Ibrox and Iolaire seemed linked by the cruellest twists of fate."

Why is that?. On second thoughts don't bother answering that question.

I've no concern over oor Freddie, one player doesn't make a team and he's certainly not better than Keanoooooooooooooooo!!!! and we all know how that ended. I think the BHEASTS will be more worried about us as we are the best team in the SPL without doubt. BRING IT ON

I think WS will drop Foster, move Whittaker to RB and play Lafferty at LM,with Weiss playing a central role again. Having said that who knows what WS will do ?,but he does like to throw a wee surprise in these games
-
Weiss appeared for the Gers in their 3-1 win over the Hoops at Parkhead in October after coming on as a late substitute for Kenny Miller. But he is desperate to play in the world-famous fixture for the full 90 minutes in a match which will go a long way towards deciding the destination of the Scottish title. A victory for Walter Smithââ?¬â?¢s side will put them two points clear of Neil Lennonââ?¬â?¢s team with two games in hand on their age-old city rivals. The 21-year-old Slovakian cap, on-loan from Manchester City for the season, has struck a rich vein of form going into the Celtic clash. He scored a goal and was man of the match in the 4-1 win at Motherwell in last Sundayââ?¬â?¢s SPL fixture. And Weiss is hoping Smith, who switched him to a more central role against the Steelmen in a tactical masterstroke, hands him the chance to wreak havoc on Celtic from kick-off. He said: ââ?¬Å?It is up to the manager what team he puts out, but I am hoping he picks me to play against Celtic. If he does, I will try to play as well as I did against Motherwell at the weekend. ââ?¬Å?The Old Firm game is a match that is known about all over the world and I was certainly aware of it when I came to Scotland in the summer. It is a game I have watched before for many years. ââ?¬Å?I have already had a taste of the Old Firm game. I played the last time we met Celtic when I came on for the last 10 minutes or so. ââ?¬Å?But it would be a dream come true for me to play from the start this weekend.ââ?¬Â Weiss is keeping his fingers crossed team-mate Steven Naismith, who limped off with a hamstring injury in the Motherwell game, wins his battle to be fit for the meeting with Celtic. However, he believes if the Scotland international fails to recover in time then John Fleck can come into the side and help the Scottish champions rack up another vital triumph. He said: ââ?¬Å?Naisy is a very important player for us and has been doing great for us this season. His injury is not too bad and hopefully he will be fit for the Celtic game on Sunday. ââ?¬Å?I knew about Steven before I came to Scotland, but this is the best season he has had at Rangers so far. ââ?¬Å?He is doing really well for us and will be a big loss if he fails to make it. ââ?¬Å?Flecky came on against Motherwell and did well. He is only 19, but he is a really, really good player who has impressed me since I arrived at the club. In training he has been brilliant. ââ?¬Å?He is one of the players who can come into the team and ensure we keep on winning matches, including the one against Celtic.ââ?¬Â

ALLY McCOIST is "very hopeful" Steven Naismith will win his fitness battle for the Old Firm clash. Rangers have been sweating over the midfielder's availability for Sunday's game against Celtic after his hamstring injury in their SPL win at Motherwell on Boxing Day. But the Ibrox assistant boss is cautiously optimistic the injury is not too serious and Naismith - who has signed a new deal - will have a part to play in Sunday's showdown at Ibrox. McCoist said: "It was a bit worrying watching Naismith pulling up at Fir Park but it's hopefully just a spasm. "It is a bit early to say he will be 100 per cent for the Celtic game. But we are hopeful he will be involved." While Rangers also look set to be boosted by the return of James Beattie and Kyle Lafferty, Celtic will be without captain Scott Brown. But McCoist added: "I don't think that will be a massive problem for them. "I've listened to the noises coming out of Celtic Park at the moment and they are well up for it. We are really looking forward to it." http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2010/12/31/rangers-hope-to-receive-steven-naismith-boost-ahead-of-old-firm-battle-86908-22817157/

Wind my neck in???,what you on about???,I'm making an observation on your posts that are always doom and gloom. You're never confident, and I'm always confident. Favourites don't always win is a fact everyone knows. I suggest you wind your neck in,it's a forum where we are all entitled to an opinion,if that's ok with you that is?.

And you're always not confident before any game never mind the MOPES. I hope the Rangers players go into this game witth the same confidence that the fans have

I was a Boyd fan,but he didn't want to stay so feck him,he could've left when Birmingham wanted him and made the club some cash but ran out his contract. I felt the same about Boyd leaving,'' how are we going to replace his goals?? '',we did and we will replace Kenny Miller if he goes.

Quote from Steelmen Online: '' when the o'donnell video started i thought it would be mainly celtic clips with a bit of motherwell sliced in. turns out i gave the scum too much credit and it was all clips of him playing for celtic with the only sight of motherwell being phil scoring a couple of goals against us. fair enough it was there home game but any tribute should have been for phil o'donnell the man not phil o'donnell the celtic player. as usual the ambulance chasers use any tradegy to suit their purposes. three years ago they managed to get their game called off because they had injuries/suspensions even though only 2 or 3 celtic players knew phil while dundee united had to play. the next week they marched their full 25 man squad (including the likes of non english speaking nakamura and evander sno) into the church in hamilton even although spl clubs had been asked to limit numbers and many people who knew phil were left outside. a few months later they organised a charity game at their ground rather than fir park and after they had monopolised that they announced half the proceeds would go to their own charity. tonight one team went onto the park in tribute to phil with black armbands on yet when it came to half time entertaiment they did their usual victim act and only celtic got a look in. complete and utter scumbags and the sooner they get out of scottish football the better. Walter Smith has made more signings throughout his two spells as Rangers manager than he cares to recall. But there is one particular piece of business he has conducted for the Ibrox club he canââ?¬â?¢t help but regard as his shrewdest to date. During the nine-in-a-row days Smith was in the fortunate position of being able to attract the likes of Brian Laudrup and Paul Gascoigne to Ibrox. However, it is a signing in his second stint in the hotseat which stands out ahead of the others for the 62-year-old. When he inherited a struggling squad in the aftermath of Paul Le Guenââ?¬â?¢s ill-fated period in Glasgow, one of the first moves Smith made was to bring in a player he knew and trusted more than any other. It was only supposed to be a stop-gap fix to a defensive problem, but four years down the line Davie Weir is still the main focal point of Smithââ?¬â?¢s team and the man he entrusts to lead his players into the heat of battle. At Ibrox on Sunday when Rangers entertain Old Firm rivals Celtic, Weir will clock up his 200th appearance for the Light Blues. Itââ?¬â?¢s an astonishing record considering he is now 40 years of age. ââ?¬Å?When I brought him up here from Everton on loan I would have thought the 20 games between the January until the end of the season would have been what we were looking at,ââ?¬Â said Smith. ââ?¬Å?But such were his performances during that period that we have no hesitation whatsoever in taking him for another year. I didnââ?¬â?¢t think it would stretch to another three after that. ââ?¬Å?It has done, however, and it is a testament to him as a professional player that he is handling the situation the way he is.ââ?¬Â Weir was involved in Rangersââ?¬â?¢ dramatic run to the Uefa Cup Final in 2008 and the fixture backlog that came as a result of that when the Ibrox club were forced to play four games in the space of a week. The following season, he helped them win the first of two titles and has rarely missed a game through injury or suspension ââ?¬â?? and itââ?¬â?¢s that consistency of availability that has pleasantly surprised Smith. Smith said: ââ?¬Å?Itââ?¬â?¢s not just that he has managed to play 200 games for Rangers. Itââ?¬â?¢s that he has managed to play the amount of games in a row that he has. ââ?¬Å?Those 200 games have all come within a four-year period so he has averaged around 50 games a season for us and that is terrific for any player, never mind someone who is at the stage of their career which he is. ââ?¬Å?I think Iââ?¬â?¢ve left him out for a couple of games during that time and if he had his way that wouldnââ?¬â?¢t have been the case. He wants to play in every match and he would have already reached the 200 landmark had I not left him out here and there. ââ?¬Å?To say he has exceeded my expectations is a major understatement. When you look at signings everyone always asks you who is your best signing and as a manager youââ?¬â?¢ve got to be fortunate to have quite a few of them. ââ?¬Å?But Davie has put himself in a different level. Despite his age he is playing as well as he ever has done and he has been absolutely terrific for us. From a personal point of view, I canââ?¬â?¢t speak highly enough of him. ââ?¬Å?For any young boy, if they are looking for a role model, then Davie would be the logical choice and itââ?¬â?¢s not just during this spell at Rangers than Iââ?¬â?¢m judging him on as I also had him as a player earlier when I was manager at Everton. ââ?¬Å?Davie was an important player for me down there and his attitude and dedication has always been first class.ââ?¬Â Smith believes every player who has partnered him at the heart of the Rangers defence since he arrived in the January of 2007 would vouch for his qualities as well. ââ?¬Å?Davie has played beside so many players throughout his time with us,ââ?¬Â said Smith. ââ?¬Å?I am sure Carlos Cuellar would be the first to say he was a major influence and allowed him to perform so well during his time here. ââ?¬Å?Madjid Bougherra would say the same having built up an excellent partnership with him over the last few years. ââ?¬Å?Young Danny Wilson came in and was fortunate to have someone with Davieââ?¬â?¢s experience to help him through games and it has been the same for all the other lads who have played there at various times. ââ?¬Å?Sasa Papac, Kirk Broadfoot, Steven Whittaker and even Lee McCulloch have all, at some point of another, played there and Iââ?¬â?¢m sure each and every one of them will say having Davie there to talk them through the game was invaluable.ââ?¬Â But after 200 games, thereââ?¬â?¢s no need for Smith to talk up Weir. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/simply-the-best-i-ever-signed-1.1077179

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra has firmly backed the champions to rise to the occasion when Celtic visit Ibrox on Sunday. Neil Lennonââ?¬â?¢s side moved top of the Scottish Premier League last night with a 1-0 win over Motherwell while Rangers were again victims of the weather as their match with St Johnstone was postponed. The Gers are one point behind their Glasgow rivals, but they now have two games in hand. And Bougherra, right, insists the Light Blues will go all out for victory as they look to put themselves in pole position once again in the race for the title. ââ?¬Å?Of course, this is the kind of game you have to win for the fans,ââ?¬Â he told Blues News. ââ?¬Å?At the end of the game, if we have a draw it will be good for us, but if we win it is better. ââ?¬Å?You canââ?¬â?¢t go into this game and say ââ?¬Ë?we will take a drawââ?¬â?¢, it is impossible. The spirit is too high to think about a draw so the team will go and give everything to win.ââ?¬Â He added: ââ?¬Å?In the first three months, in every game we started very badly but we have the mentality to keep working and to want to win the game. ââ?¬Å?We have the same team from the last two years, we know each other and we all have the same mentality. I am very confident about Sunday.ââ?¬Â:boogie: Meanwhile, Kyle Lafferty played in a bounce game against Morton yesterday to put himself in contention for the derby match after six weeks out with a broken finger. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/bullish-bougherra-in-derby-vow-1.1077185

SENSELESS Celtic captain Scott Brown is OUT of the Old Firm game after a crazy sending off last night. Brown's shocking late tackle on Well's Steven Hammell in injury-time earned him a second booking and red card from ref Stephen Finnie. And after missing the first derby of the season at Parkhead through injury, Brown will also miss the Ne'erday showdown at Ibrox. But Hoops boss Neil Lennon slammed whistler Finnie for the red card. He said: "If you see it again, Scott does everything he can to pull out of the tackle. Hammell actually kicked Scott on the follow through. "He's gone in, he's pulling away and he slipped and it's totally accidental. "We are very disappointed with that decision, among many. "But if you want me to talk about referees then forget it - you all saw the performance, so you will all have your opinions on it. "I thought Brown was immense and if he's out of Sunday then it's a big blow for him and us. "Scott is upset and frustrated." Hammell said: "I rolled the tackle and the actual tackle didn't hurt, it was the landing. I saw him coming. "You see tackles like that ten times in a game." Paddy McCourt's first-half winner moved the Hoops top of the table - but Rangers have two games in hand. And long before the end, Celtic and their fans were living off their nerves as Well piled on the pressure. Whistler Finnie angered Lennon and the home support with his officiating in a second half which also saw four other players booked. Well's Tom Hateley was cautioned for a wild challenge on McCourt which sparked Hoops fury. Lennon confirmed crock Daryl Murphy - who limped off after coming on as a first-half sub - is out of the Ibrox showdown after picking up an ankle injury. Olivier Kapo is also out after suffering a hamstring injury. But hitman Georgios Samaras will be back after missing last night's game with a virus. On going top of the table approaching the Old Firm crunch, Lennon said: "It was a bit of magic again from Paddy to win the game for us. "It was a big win. It was also another clean sheet - that's nine in 18 - and that is very pleasing. "It's a huge boost for us going into Sunday being top of the table, even though Rangers have got games in hand. "It gives us a bit of momentum." Read more: http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/spl/3323494/Brown-n-out.html#ixzz19aRwToEW

First half he was everywhere, chasing, harrying, getting in peoples faces and leading by example. He didn`t have quite the same influence in the second but it certainly wasn`t for lack of effort. I haven`t seen any replays of the incident yet but my first thought at the game was that Brown attempted to pull out the challenge and the Motherwell boy made the most of it. I actually had a stand up argument with the guy in front of me who disagreed with my opinion and was convinced Brown was a disgrace for going in the way he did. As far as the referee goes, that was as poor a performance as I have ever seen from a referee. Hopeless, biased, incompetent, cheat. Couldn't get the card out for Brown quick enough could he?. Fair puts in perspective some of the challenges that McCulloch and Lafferty have only been booked for recently if thats a yellow card. Played some nice stuff in the first half hour. Most of the good stuff through Kapo (who looks a decent player on this showing). After he went off we had nothing and the second half was abysmal. Plus point is that we fought for it. It looked to me that the motherwell team talk at half time advocated kicking lumps out of us. For a change we stood up to it. The ref and both linesmen were appalling, booking Celtic players for feck all, allowed Motherwell players away with absolute murder. The Brown red card was yet another disgraceful decision. Brown pulled out of the challenge, slipped, just avoided getting a kick to the face and still gets booked and sent off. The thing you don't see from the clip above is that the referee wasn't even watching at the point when the 'tackle' happened. He runs away, looks back, sees the Motherwell guy on the deck and that's his decision made. Compare with the tackles on Wilson and Izzy. Both much worse and yet nothing done. Motherwell kicked us up and down the park, yet the ref managed to book as many Celtic players as Motherwell. Danny for his 2nd foul of the game, when the first one wasn't even a foul. Kayal for God knows what when the Motherwell guy had just booted McCourt up on the air. So another honest mistake means we are without our captain for the game against the Huns. What a coincidence. rpceltic Today, 11:42 PM Post #296 Member Avatar Occasional Substitute [ * * * * ] Posts: 521 Group: Members Member #6,396 Joined: 10 January 2007 Scott Brown did well tonight and I'm not his biggest fan but the referee was on strict instructions to eff celtic over in anyway he could and Scott gave him the opportunity to. I thought he was going to get Danny but it was Scott he succeeded in getting. The huns will be lapping it up but if we sign Freddy and Kapo manages a game we could shock them. I know there is supposed to be no appeals process for 2 yellows but something must be done about a yellow card for absolutely nothing which means your captain misses the biggest game of the season. The more I watch it the more I can't believe what I am saying. Maybe the ref will come out tomorrow and say he was wrong and wants to rescind the yellow card. Typically faded in the second half and looked under pressure to a side who didnt have a shot on goal all night. Paddy was good, and I like Izaguirre. I like the aggression of Kayal. I was raging with Brown after the game, but just seeing the replay - he didnt even touch the player. In fact, he was kicked. Hun Bastard was dying to give something against us all night.

One, Brown clearly tried to pull out of it and his momentum took him towards the guy. Secondly, there is a Celtic player (Leadley?) between the ref and the incident, very much like Dougie Dougie was, but that obviously isn't a problem. We can be a decent side without Murphy and Ledley and despite being toothless and uninspired especially in the second half deserved to win. As for the referee- the battle with the SFA is far from over. That cheat last week, now this particular lower rectum. Couldn't wait to send Brown off, yet a deliberate handball goes unpunished. And that's just the most obvious ones. Dallas' loyal brothers are still there. I'd get banned if I posted what I wish on him and the rest of them. jpm3105 Today, 11:17 PM Post #231 Member Avatar Occasional Substitute [ * * * * ] Posts: 390 Group: Members Member #13,757 Joined: 7 January 2008 Favourite all-time player Henke If Browns was a yellow surely the tackle on Stokes at the end is a yellow,so he is either incompetent or a cheating carrot direct Today, 11:19 PM Post #238 Everyone's Fantasy Football first pick [ * * * * * * * ] Posts: 1,822 Group: Members Member #1,647 Joined: 24 July 2005 I enjoyed the first 35 minutes of the game and Paddy's goal was a cracker. Real Entertainment. The goblins arrived in the second half and it all went to hell in a handbasket. Really strange game. Still scratching my head. Didn't think it was a 2nd yellow for Brown. He was unlucky but first glance it looked bad. Unlucky there. Still 3 points. Clean sheet. Now the world can see the lack of quality in refereeing in Scotland.
