  1. He's on a par with the Robbie Savage's of this world. Except probably has more incidents counting against him.

The fact he gets favourable/preferential treatment from our media and football authorities probably counts against him too. Despite being one of the most offensive characters in Scottish football he gets a ridiculously easy ride and rarely gets condemned for his actions. On and off the field. He gets off pretty lightly for threatening a woman he knocked up for example.

I imagine this gets up non-Celtic fan's nose when everyone else gets sanctioned at the drop of a hat.

  2. “The gaffer has said that hopefully if the league’s won quickly, the young boys will get their opportunity"

Will be interested to see if that pans out as the league will be over very soon.

I was one who hoped we could keep the 100% record going throughout the season. When that went the undefeated record just wasnt as interesting, not at this level.

I would gladly take a defeat in the league with lots of youths playing if it meant keeping the squad fit, fresh and competitive (within the squad for places) in favour of a Scottish cup win. Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but our emphasis should be on the cup(s) now.

  3. Didnt put that very well did I?

Whilst there was a chance of getting the sheep or Utd away I wasnt confident we could win there but now if we get one of them it will be at Ibrox or the piggery I feel more confident in our chances against them.

    I know what I meant :P

Ah ok. Yeh I see that. Still I'm not sure that draw changes things massively when looking at us and Aberdeen. They have a piss easy draw too and might yet not play us til the final at ParkDread.

  4. Nice wee earner for them, full house @ Ibrox?

Should be a better turn out than Dunfermline for a number of reasons. And realistically no other team would provide them with a share of a gate bigger than about 12k paying fans.

  5. I think you will find that most internet users don't. You obviously think that your points get across better when finished off with your 'side splitters' so as I'm no match I will leave you to it. "Scotland' Real Madrid" - this 'exaggeration for comedic effect' thing - don't give up the day job mate.

Not many people get paid for posting on forums.

Good luck with the bypass btw.

Hope you're never caught exaggerating to make your point. ;-)

"The truth of the matter is they are the most improved side in Scotland - by far".

"They ripped the best defence in the country to shreds yesterday".

  6. I don't see anyone saying Aberdeen are the invincibles. The truth of the matter is they are the most improved side in Scotland - by far. They have adopted a style of play that can hurt the best teams when they are up for it. We showed last season against ICT (0-3) that we didn't know how to handle those tactics, and I'm not sure we have improved sufficiently since in defence. They ripped the best defence in the country to shreds yesterday.

That's all people are saying - the "invincibles" bit is a bit of poetic license you have chosen to indulge in.

I'm well aware I exaggerated for comedic effect. Most internet users do.

Most improved just states they are better than they were before. Not what standard they came from or where they are at now. It is also arguable they are most improved. Not a "truth".

People are definitely getting carried away with how good they are. On their day it would be a tough game. Why it is taken for granted they would play their best against us I do not know. There are no guarantees in football. Ask Hearts or Alloa. Perhaps we should ask Paul Hartley (whose Alloa lost 8 on the bounce in the league below Aberdeen) or Gary Locke how to combat this mighty footballing force.

We showed last season we can beat the best the SPL has to offer (Motherwell 3-0). Why the doom merchants focus only on the defeats I do not know.

I almost want to get Aberdeen now. If they're Scotland Real Madrid it will be a privilege to see them at Ibrox. :P

  7. Ally not the only one with a poor cup record?

Celtic 0-2 Ross County (SC semi)

    Celtic 1-2 Rangers (LC final)

    Celtic 1-2 Hearts (SC semi)

    Celtic 0-1 Kilmarnock (LC final)

Celtic 2-3 St Mirren (LC final)

    Celtic 0-1 Morton (LC 3rd)

    Celtic 1-2 Aberdeen (SC 5th)

    That's his domestic cup defeats.

Then there's Europe. He did well to reach the last 16 but the other three seasons were shocking.

Humped against Braga, humped against Utrecht, humped against Sion but get through after Sion play an ineligible player, then humped out at the europa group stage, did well to reach the last 16, then scrape by a Karagandy pub side in the qualifiers before being humiliated in the group stages.

Has lost his only one title against Rangers when it's been a level playing field.

And this is the guy Guidi and co try to link to every Premiership job going?

The guy is surviving on titles which have been handed to him and going by the Scottish pundits you would think he was a genius.

  8. Few weeks old now I think.

Q- which manager improved you the most?

    Peter L - McLeish

Also earlier on was asked about leaving Rangers. Said he spoke to incoming manager about staying at Rangers. PLG said he could stay or if he left he'd just replace him. Sounded like he didn't give the player any confidence or make him feel wanted. More poor man management from PLG.

  9. I don't think that is an excuse because in Ally's tenure we have generally been woeful in all cup games.

I wasn't making excuses. I think it was pointing out the obvious really. Attitude. And performance was better as the players were more motivated.

  10. Man for man we are easily the 2nd best team in Scotland, it's proving it our players may find hard for some reason though the Scottish Cup does give us an excellent platform to do just that.

It appeared the Cup game yesterday was the motivation for a massively improved performance and attitude rather than another mundane, unchallenging league game.

  11. People still shitting their pants about Aberdeen and ICT?

Yes we could lose to them. But I think people have forgotten that Bell, Wallace, Black, Law, Shiels, Templeton and Daly were standouts for SPL teams and everyone outwith Celtic would take those players in their first XI. In some cases Celtic would be happy to have them. Chuck in McLeod and Mohsni and I don't think we're looking too bad.

We can beat all those teams if we play to our potential. Might need someone to do us a favour against The Rolf Harris select though.

  12. Ally, those clubs don't need to create a new league. They are well-served by what they already have.

Rangers needs a richer environment in which to participate, and it will never be the Scottish domestic set-up. If nothing changes, we will be marginalised from the big time indefinitely, so change is not just desirable for Rangers - it is essential.

We have to explore alternatives. The Atlantic League is one. Within a European context, there may be others, too.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

They don't need it. But if Rangers, Rosenborg, Ajax and Fenerbahce etc formed a league what would stop the sort of sides I mentioned following suit? The potential money involved would be ridiculous and money drives sport (certainly football) these days.

It's not about what they need, it would be what they want.

And then we would be in the same boat, in the inferior competition wishing we were in the new Champions League.

Not sure what alternatives they are, just one way I would see any Atlantic league playing out. And to be honest that would be best case scenario.

  13. Whilst you probably have a point in that McLeod is being pushed out of position to accommodate players who wont bring as much to Rangers long term another way of looking at is that the manager feels this is the best use of his resources on the field.

Perhaps McCoist feels if he has McLeod CM with Black or Law then he doesn't have a decent alternative at LM. So the compromise is:

    McLeod Black Law Aird

    Is more effective than e,g,

    Smith McLeod Law Aird

Whilst McLeod may be less effective individually in the first option, the midfield unit is far stronger in the second. Not saying it's right but I think maybe it is forgotten or overlooked.

I was listening to TalkSport again today as I usually do in the car these days and one of Colin Murray's co-hosts, I forget who, said that Wayne Rooney should be played in midfield for Man U at the moment. Now Rooney will most likely be less effective individually or less happy to play midfield rather than as a supporting striker. But Utd are so shit in midfield that playing Rooney there makes the team better. I know the team's and players' qualities are not the same but it is the same concept.

I dont actually agree with McCoist here though. I think I would like to see McLeod, Law and Black fight it out for 2 CM spots and play, currently, Aird and Templeton wide. However, that could see McLeod get less game time potentially and be more detrimental to his growth?

Also whilst we all seem to advocate playing the likes of Aird and Templeton on the flanks at the moment I think this reflects the level of opposition. I remember Eck getting destroyed on here for playing a midfield 4 with 2 wingers. So whilst that looks like the best set up for us to take advantage of our superior skill right now it might need a re-think in two years time or in playing Celtic or Dundee United in the cup.
