  1. I liked the look of the lad early on in the season so can understand his frustration.

He's the standard of player that I think we'd have been better developing than bringing in guys like Foster (or Argyriou).

I'd chuck Faure in there too.

  2. Agreed, but how many opportunities could have been created at the other end, had we kept a striker up front instead of defending a corner?

Lunatic post. Citing opposition set pieces as a missed attacking opportunity. What use are your extra men up the field to attack and score when the opposition have already thumped the ball into back off your own net?

I agree with the frustration at negative tactics but think people are well wide of the mark with ths one.

Years ago "ozo" (I think that was his username) posted a fantastic tactical analysis of this on FF.

  3.

A UK Football Think Tank - they analysis stats - looked at substitutions.

'Like for like' changes make virtually no difference to how a game is going.

'Tactical changes' are 72% more likely to change pattern of game positively.

They also state that not changing tactics if game is not going well is a very British thing (not using blind bias but statistical data) and outmoded...basically if shape/system doesn't work after 5 minutes it won't after 35 or 75 either.

My own interpretation on the latter point: could this be why so many British managers over years have been 'cheque book managers'? Just a thought.

    Finding source for the above.

  4. Faure has done a good job for us wherever he's been asked to play and not thrown the toys out when he's been relegated (unfairly in my view) to the bench. He played really well at CB at the start of the season and I like the way he always tries to play the ball out of defence; but if he is to have any future with us at a higher level it can only be at CB. He is a decent stand in RB at this level and can get by in centre mid but I don't see him doing enough there to hold down a place in SPL1 never mind the SPL or anything else.

I'm just not seeing it tbh.

Rightly not picked at CB. I don't mind seeing him at RB because Foster is no better. If i thought it might happen I would be happy to persist with and develop McAusland.

I genuinely think a large section of our support overstate Faure's performances because when it comes to playing him at centre back it's "anyone but Jig".

For me Faure has been average at best in a really shit standard of league. Not the long term answer.

  5. Looking at some recent performances here is the team I would like to see the manager starting for a few games to see if they can grow together and build some relationships (hopefully allow a couple to build some form:

    :cb:

    :sf::jig::bm::lw:

    :fa::nl::lm::dt:

    :ds:

    :jd:

I'm sure some would like to see Jig dropped but realistically that won't happen. The same applies for Daly being rested - we lack realistic alternatives.

Templeton's goal the other night was different class and he is capable of that against the very best. I'd like to see him start 3 or 4 games and see if he can build some form.

Aird had probably his worst recent performance last time out but adds much needed creativity and positive play. Sadly one bad performance means Peralta will be back to play crap indefinitely with no threat to his place.

It's a prime opportunity to play McLeod in his favoured CM with strong options out wide.

Shiels was quiet compared to the previous game, is inconsistent and often will play crap all game but pop up with a goal or assist. Clark is injured so it's an opportunity for Shiels to prove his worth. He has a lot of guile and creativity too.

I don't like Faure at RB but most options are crap and realistically he will play.

How would you like to see us lining up for the next few games?

  6. Stuart Waiton thinks that it is OK for anyone to say or sing anything about anybody, his views are outdated and largely discredited by most right thinking people.

I believe that he got a hearing (just like Spiers) at the Parliamentary Committee on the OB&TCB just to show how out of touch he was with mainstrean thinking.

Just because there have been some incredibly lenient sentences for the types of violent acts that he rightly condemns does not mean that offensive language and communications that could lead to violence should be tolerated either.

    Pompous and arrogant retort.

  7. Does he though? His recent interviews make him come across as a bit of coward, certainly a liar if i am being honest. Also talking to fans like they are idiots. It's not as if Barrie is an isolated case either, Ally has previous with several different players.

Is it only me that thinks this post absolutely reeks of a lack of class and dignity.

  8. McCoist is supposedly treating him like a leper. Had numerous fall outs. The lad has given serious thoughts to giving the game up altogether because of it.

Where have you got this from?

  9. Just read this online and it's a point well made:

The director's at our club don't want to pay ( as they see it ) Spl wages to players in division 1/ Championship yet they all want paying top wack and then some for their own duties.

The team has successfully met its onfield expectations.

    The Director's? ........An Abomination!

  10. Glad we hired another financial guy then. :(

Why not cut costs with the boardroom wasters first. It's the playing staff that bring the punters in. How many qualified accountants or whatever it is do we have on the board now. Absolute fucking joke.

What does Stockbridge "earn" in a year?

  11. If we had a team full of 17 year olds they'd only complain that these over the hill has beens are keeping the 15 year olds out of the team! :ninja:

All joking aside the adage if you're good enough your old enough works both ways for me. Whether its a young Wayne Rooney or an ageing Davie Weir. Younger players are generally better for longevity of the current first team and sell on values etc but you need some old and experienced heads sometimes too.

The value of the Lee McCulloch's in our squad may be more in their experience and guidance than in their playing abilities.

  12. Excellent news, long overdue. Our squad is a shambles anyway and needs gutted.

Perry, Hutton, Smith, Foster, Cribari, are a must to leave. McCulloch, Black, Hegarty, Mitchell, McAusland, Simonsen, Peralta, Shiels and even Daly are no use to us long term, i would let all of them go if possible. That is probably half of our overall playing wage bill there.

Only 2 players out of the first team in that list, with the league wrapped up it's the perfect time to go with some of the Under 20's to compliment the best of the rest.

We severely weaken the squad. Results worsen. Less fans turn up. Costs us money.

    Genius. Just genius.

  13. To be fair O'Neil's Celtic didn't play negatively in Europe, they often had a go playing 2 up front against decent teams.

They did play horrible, route one football though, so I guess it's a different type of anti-football.

Might well be true. I dont remember and try not to watch them unless we're playing or its the standard 3-0 away defeat in Europe. Still the anti-football line was first used against them yet is rarely re-used. Trotted out at every opportunity against us.

  14. In fairness, we played the most negative football ever, particularly in that season in Europe.

It is excusable against Barca in the champions league as pretty much everyone bar Bayern Munich will try similar. When we went with 5 at the back in the SPL (certainly played it v Celtic at Parkhead in a game where we never got near their half) though I wanted to gouge my eyes out.

I unnderstand his viewpoint and agree with what you say. Just don't understand the need or relevance to an article on best atmospheres. Did they mention the anti-football jibes first aimed at O'Neil's Celtic?

Kenny Sheils was on talk sport on Friday mentioning how well our media support and promote our game. This article flies in the face of that. The digs at Rangers were for me unnecessary and irrelevant to the main thrust of the article. Cant have a positive Rangers comment without a negative to balance it though. I don't believe they would have done it with Celtic.
