All along people have made the point that Whyte lacks the finance to fund the ongoing investment stipulation. IMO and it is only in my opinion I believe the issue is that Whyte (and any other bidder be it via a MBO or another external party) may be after the same financial backers. Thus, I think the problem we may have is that these people don't know which horse to back so keep changing their mind. No matter the whole thing is a shambles and no-one is coming out of this with much credit as long as the supporters are left to speculate on deliberately fed tit-bits.
-
If the deal was agreed then there must have been provision for the tax issue.n I can't believe that is the problem here.
-
No idea mate. I'd have thought it was in all buyer's interests to move now to maximise season ticket renewals. But I guess people can buy season tickets at any time.
-
Yeah, the independent committee is merely an informal comfort for shareholders - as you know SDM can do what he like. Would he have to call an EGM to go ahead with sale though?
-
Wish I could join you. Not been on the golf course yet this year!

I agree with most of that. However, I also know both sides of the deal will leak information to spin the situation to their advantage. I trust the bears are capable of making up their mind on what is happening here but some genuine detail would be nice. Your final paragraph is the most important one though. A win tonight is imperative if our title challenge is to remain in place.

Uncertainty prevails mate but evidence suggests a management buy out (possibly backed by others) may be the alternative to Whyte - the 'irons in the fire' talked about by AJ the other week. That is merely speculation though. This would explain why Whyte is trying to get the deal done asap. Either way the onus is now on the committee to approve or reject the Whyte bid.

Trust me, I was being facetious given the calibre of our club board...

I don't particularly like posting rumours as I understand they only add to the speculation as opposed to ending it but so far we've done pretty well in our commentary of the situation here. Always best to use all sites though as it's easy to miss relevant points if you just use the one. Appreciate not everyone has the time to surf the whole community though so it's good to see valid stuff appearing elsewhere.

OK, £5million for them both and we can replace them with Craig Conway and John Sutton...
-
Nice to see you on mate and agree with your sentiments. Unfortunately it is probably because the support do lack unity/leadership that people take our opinion for granted as they know we'll moan online but that's about it.
-
We've already signed him...

Although Davis and Bougherra haven't had great seasons, if we could keep the spine (AM, MB, SD and NJ) for next year that would be a big boost.
-
I would also add though that you'll remember the other week that leaks from the Whyte camp quickly forced LBG into clarifying their part in the sale (again to this site). This could be the same tactic to force the independent committee to give their say one way or the other. As such, a quick end to this saga may still not be out of the question.

Let's look at the possibles: 1. They don't want approve the Whyte bid until he provides further guarantees. Given he's now been involved for almost 6 months it is worrying that any independent committee still don't fancy him as a new owner. AJ also spoke positively of Whyte the other week. This seems bizarre at this stage. 2. They're stalling to give other interested parties time to form their own bid They may have been made aware of another potential bid so are giving them to chance to match the Whyte one or change the political/financial circumstances of the club to force a change in sale terms. While another bid may well be possible (as we suggested the other week) any stall tactic seems rather unethical and unlikely IMO. 3. The tax gorilla It may be that in a few weeks we'll know more about our obligations to the tax 'query'. This could affect the deal significantly. I'd be surprised though if this hasn't been covered in depth by all interested parties and already accounted for in any agreed deal. All in all, while it seems that today indeed looked probable as announcement day, something is causing one side of the negotiations to get cold feet. Unfortunately, as always, it is us fans (the ones asked to put in £20million a year without so much as a murmur) to invest again without knowing why this deal is still incomplete. That is an absolute disgrace and all parties (be it MIH, SDM, LBG, AJ, the board or indeed Craig Whyte) are guilty of taking our support for mugs.

Just online now so only heard about the alleged snag in last ten mins. Rather disappointing so will try and get an update.
-
I don't think anyone is writing Whyte off - merely expressing understandable caution until we do know more.
-
Yep - no change they reckon tomorrow will be the day.
-
The deadline is tomorrow now mate!
-
It has been the case throughout that people are unsure where Whyte is getting the funds to invest into the club. Ergo, I'd suggest that there will be other people involved but to what extent I don't know.

Rangers in shock United link to Ferguson's star striker
Frankie replied to ian1964's topic in Rangers Chat
I'd fancy we're only hearing of this because he just played for Scotland the other week. -
I doubt any fan has a problem with cutting our cloth to match our circumstances. If we can't afford to pay for expensive players (fees or wages) then we don't take the risk - simple. However, that doesn't mean we can't still have the ambition and innovation to maintain success. That is what is missing from SDM (and the rest of the board) so that is what I'm hoping Whyte will bring (as well as the money!)...

Not at this stage no. My own viewpoint on this (and it is merely speculation) is that the alleged alternative bid may have been from people Whyte wanted involved in any case. Not sure what is happening there.
