Chesney named manager of the year

Recommended Posts

Last season i didnt utter a word of complaint to anyone that McGreedy won the POTY award, but now i feel it is a preposterous decision to give Strachan that award.

Last year's decision to give it to McGeady over Cuellar is the biggest mistake of these awards in recent memory. Quite simply dumfounding.

The POTY and MOTY awards are a lot of pish anyway, and like down south they are voted at the wrong time of the season, what if we did happen to win the SPL and Scottish cup, how can Strapon be MOTY?

Brown has been decent but that's it not outstanding in any way, it's all media talk that has got him this IMO. The last few years especially and the players who have won it says it all and I don't take any notice now........

Been procrastinating and wasting time again. Some facts for your edification:

10y2gyr.jpg

- Of the ten completed seasons of the SPL in the current format, Celtic have won 6 titles. Rangers 4.

-Each year the football writer’s manager’s award has gone to the league winning manager, except in 04/05 when Rangers won the league and Mowbray got the award and last year when Smith got it for our remarkable quadruple attempt.

-The football writer’s award has gone to a Celtic player 6 times and Rangers 3 times (similar to the number of times each has won the league. However, twice a Celtic player has won the award when we won the league (on one occasion a treble! The other a double). Cuellar got it last year when Celtic won the league and only the league, largely due to our attempts to win 4 trophies. They also gave it to Gordon when Celtic won the league in 05/06.

-The PFA player’s award has gone to Celtic 8 times!!!!!!!! (Inc. one shared). Rangers have won it a mere twice plus one shared. Considering the award winners often come from the league winners this seems odd. When we won a treble in 98/99, Larsson won the award. When we completed the double the following year, (winning the league by 21 points) Viduka won the award. In 01/02, Celtic won the league, but we won the double and Amoruso scooped their award. When we last won the league (+ League Cup) Ricksen shared the award with Hartson. The 6 seasons Celtic won the title they got the PFA players award 5 times. The four times we have won the league a Ranger has taken the award once with one shared.

Disclaimer: Not complaining, just pointing out what a farce they are.

These Awards should be decided after the prizes have been decided at the end of the seson and then alone.

As deciding now is riddiculus as there is a good few important games were players can stand up and be counted in the title run in.

These awards always have a Celtic Lov in feel to them , last year Mcgeady won young and player of the year when to all the obvious outstanding candidate was Cuellar , Mcgeady wins both ?

This year no different outstanding player Magid Bougherra by a country mile

not even on the Shortlist it baffels the brain ??? who wins it Hacker and Moaner Brown the Media Darling and Celtic Stalwart for what WTF has he done this season to deserve any recognition from anyone he is an average overhyped player and elovated to saint like status by the celtic loving media in this country.

At the end of the day Strapon and The Sheep shagging Thug can have there shitty awards as long as we win the league they wont matter a jot.

This League must be won by Rangers no matter what - No Excuses - No 2nd Best - No Surrender :box:

Celtic

60% of titles.

50% of Writer’s MOTY awards

100% of titles, 50% of PFA MOTY awards.

80% of PFA POTY awards

60% Writer’s POTY awards

Rangers

40% of titles

40% of Writer’s MOTY awards

No titles. No PFA MOTY awards*

30% PFA POTY awards

30% Writer’s POTY awards

Celtic won 14/30 (46.67%) trophies up to end season 07/08.

Rangers won 14/30 (46.67%) trophies to end of season 07/08.

Celtic won 20/32 (62.5%) total POTY and MOTY awards.

Rangers won 10/32 (31.25%).

When Celtic win title (6 occasions):

Won Writer’s MOTY 5 times (83.3%)

Won PFA MOTY 1 out of 2 (50%)

Won Writer’s POTY 4 times (66.7%)

Won PFA POTY 5 times (83.3%)

When Rangers win the title (4 occasions):

Won Writer’s MOTY 3 times (75%)

PFA MOTY N/a*

Won Writer’s POTY 2 times (50%)

Won PFA POTY 1 time, 1 shared (25-50%)

Won other side wins title:

Celtic won SWMOTY 0 times.

Rangers won WMOTY 1 time. (16.67% Smith last year, unprecedented quadruple attempt)

PFA MOTY n/a*

Celtic won SWPOTY 2 times (50%)

Rangers won SWPOTY 1 time (16.67% Cuellar, unprecedented quadruple attempt)

Celtic won PFAPOTY 3 times (75%)

Rangers won PFA POTY 1 time (16.67% Amoruso in 01/02)

Award winner has come from League Winning team:

SWPOTY 60%

PFA POTY 70% (Counted the one shared)

Overall – 65%

SWMOTY 80%

PFAMOTY 50% (too few awards to draw meaningful conclusion here*)

*PFA Scotland award only awarded for last 2 years.

What does this all tell us?

The PFAPOTY award goes to a player from the league winners 70% of the time. However, more often (83.3%) when Celtic win the league and less often if Rangers win the league (25-50%).

The SWPOTY award goes to a player from the league winners 60% of the time. More often if Celtic win the league (66.7%) and less often when Rangers win the league (50%).

The SWMOTY comes from the league winners 80% of the time. More often when Celtic win the league (83.3%) and less often when Rangers win the league (75%).

(The above points suggest we get a fairer ride from the press  than the PFA).

Rangers have been given the SWMOTY and SWPOTY once each (16.67%) when Celtic won the league. Both were last year and due to us winning both cups, reaching the UEFA final and losing the league on the final day and was some turnaround from what the squad Smith had inherited had achieved.

When we win the league the SWPOTY award is equally likely to be given to a Celtic player as a Rangers player. The reverse is not true. (50:50 compared to 83.33:16.67).

When we win the league Celtic are more likely to win the PFAPOTY. (25-50% compared to 75%). The reverse is not true (Celtic win the league and PFAPOTY 83.33% of the time).

When Rangers have won awards but not the league it has been due to last year's unprecedented (apologies for the repetition) quadruple attempt and Amoruso winning 1 PFAPOTY award. Celtic have won numerous SWOPOTY and PFAPOTY awards when we have won trebles and doubles, with no other outstanding achievements by the Celtic squad.

(Great waste of a bank holiday :o, was going to do some analysis for the earlier post but was being lazy.)
