ALAN LOWING has signed a new six-month extension at Ibrox but four youngsters have been released from Murray Park.

Alan Lowing spent most of last season on loan at Clyde and will now have until January to earn a long-term deal and push his way in to Walter Smith's first team plans.

The 21-year-old right-back, from Rutherglen, joined Rangers in July 2004 from Castleglen Boys Club and made his top-team debut on September 20, 2005 against the Bully Wee in a League Cup clash.

His first SPL appearance came on October 1, 2005 against Dunfermline and he also featured in Europe against Partizan Belgrade at Ibrox on December 14, 2006.

Injuries have halted Alan's progress on more than one occasion but he will now be desperate to make up for lost time and challenge Steven Whittaker for the right-back slot.

Meanwhile Willie McLachlan, Ross Harvey, Chris Craig and Lithuanian keeper Artur Vaiculis have all left Gers as the youth department starts to prepare for the 2009/10 season.

Six months to prove yourself. Will he be given a chance to prove himself.

I think it's more the case he provides reasonable cover for right back given Broadfoot will be out for a few months yet while Dailly has left.
Crap

Seems like Walter covering his options until Broadfoot returns

Maybe he's just cover until Broadfoot is back fit.

He's cover for left midfield, of course.

He looked like a no bad wee player when he first broke through. I can remember being impressed with him when he played against Clyde in the cup. The team performace wasnt great but i remember thinking he looked like he had some potential.

The question is will he be given a chance under Walter Smith.

Smith looked excellent for a while but i have to admit he looked really crap this season. I hope if he gets a full pre season he can show his old form next season.
