Players In v Players Out

Assuming Jelavic and Weiss sign on the dotted line:

Jelavic - WS been chasing him since the World Cup ended. Looks a find and will probably be a starter.

Weiss - Impressive at the WC. Provides much needed creativity and width.

Beattie - Poacher but has to win a lot of fans over that he isnt past it.

Webster - returning from a successful loan spell where he was one of the best defenders in the SPL for Dundee Utd.

v

Novo - Was Rangers through and through but never guarenteed a start. Big match player. He's the one Im most gutted about losing but if Weiss and Jelavic perform he wont be overly missed!

Boyd - split the fans down the middle. Slow? Lazy? poor ball control? Overweight? Never did it against bigger teams / rarely picked against bigger teams? But a insanely good scoring record!

Thomson - Hot and cold, was decent when he took the games by scrub of the next but didnt do it near often enough.

Smith - Injury practically ended his career a few years back. Was nothing more of a squad player.

Beasley - spent more time on the treatment table than in the team.

Wilson - One season wonder yet didnt play in most games. Was mentored by Weir IMO and may struggle at Liverpool.

Overall our squad is down in numbers by 3 but we have 3 players who will look to get into the first team on a weekly basis while 3 or 4 of those who left werent guarenteed a game on a weekly basis.

Sometimes less is more.

Could still do with signing a versatile defender *cough* Goncalves

Would certainly complete the defence. Throw in a solid centre midfielder and that 10/11 odds for title No.54 is very tasty! :)

When you consider that for the first time we have gotten rid of players who played very little or even no part in our past glories and actually replaced them with plaers for certain positions then I am actually very pleased at our dealings this summer , and very surprised .

However when you compare what Lemming has done at Septic , they have no real transfer strategy and I am not just saying that as a Rangers fan but a football fan , no team can have the whole sale changes they have and prosper in the short term , even today Rassmussen is in Germany discussing a loan to Mainz and Fortune may be heading back to West Brom for £2.5 , a loss of £1.3 million .

Major pressure on the lurgan bigot tonight

Aye our attack is certainly strong enough if Jelavic signs. I'd be happy to pay off Velicka in such a case as he is a drain on resources and unlikely to get near the pitch all season.

We'd still be in major trouble if Davis or Bougherra picked up any kind of semi-long term injury

Before the season began and we started to buy, I was always confident we had a better starting 11 than the orcs. Now that we're adding to the squad with some quality, I am even more confident that we are on course for destination 54.

Good times ahead, folks!

Or you could say;

Jelavic - untested, overpriced, from a poor league, remains to be seen if he can cut it for a huge fee.

Weiss - cant even get into the top 25 players at a club that is not in the top 4 in England, says it all really.

Beattie - Done nothing for years, trouble maker, no pace, best years well behind him

Webster - Mr Injured, cant keep off treatment table unless he is somewhere else.

v

Novo - supersub, scorer of hugely important goals, big match player, fans favourite.

Boyd - Goal machine, irreplaceable in our financial situation.

Thomson - future captain, getting better every season, ball-winner

Smith - good cover at left back or at left midfield, great engine, injuries now behind him.

Beasley - Only winger we had, no coincidence our best form last year was when he was in team in December.

Wilson - Great breakthrough talent, cool head for someone so young, could be backbone of defence for next decade.

Our squad has been skinned alive, not only this summer but last summer also, leaving us with not even enough first team players to fill the bench, and the reduction in quality will ensure we are much weaker than the last 2 years. Any injuries to what big players we have left, and we are struggling big time.

You can make the situation look any way you like. Personally, I think it is somewhere in the middle, with the only certainty that we will have a smaller less experienced squad than before, and that injuries/suspensions will have a big influence on our success/failure this season.

With 12 days to go until the window shuts, we must bring in about 5 players in total (inc Beattie) to have any chance of making it through the winter. Hopefully these 2 players (Jelavic & Weiss) can be signed, together with more defensive and midfield cover.

Harsh overall post. quite frankly as long as we win the league I dont care.

Singling out Weiss like that isnt fair either. Man City have got something like 40 players battling to get in the squad and arguably their best last season Bellamy cant get in either.
