Celtic striker Georgios Samaras in the clear over Old Firm clash with Allan McGregor

Oct 25 2010

GEORGIOS SAMARAS will not be punished by the Scottish Football Association following an incident with Allan McGregor in yesterday's Old Firm derby.

There was speculation Samaras could be in trouble after appearing to clash with the Rangers goalkeeper during the match at Celtic Park.

McGregor, himself, was recently given a retrospective ban for aiming a kick at Aberdeen's Chris Maguire.

However, the incident with Samaras was deemed not to be violent conduct.

The laws of the game state: "A player is guilty of violent conduct if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball."

Well there is a surprise.

To be honest it didn't really warrant any ban but neither did McGregor for the Aberdeen incident

Once again the rules are not clear enough. Shagger made no contact but there was 'intent'. Samaras makes contact (albeit minimal) but its deemed there was no intent? FFS, look at the incident, he's caught the ball and at least a full 2 seconds after he has caught it he gets the knee tap. If thats not intent to harm then i don't know what is.

I didnt think his wee knee to the head deserved a card. A nothing incident.

But his assault on Naismith at the end deserved a red, no doubt about it. He should receive a lengthy ban for that yet he cant as he was yellow carded for it. No worries though, he is shite, so long may he continue to feature in their starting line-up.
