I believe there is a 50/50 split on these games between the Old Firm , I could be wrong though , so given tickets will be approx �£35 plus ,Tv . catering etc that's easily another �£1million that wouldn't have been budgeted for

The Old Firm will share a near-�£2million windfall after being paired together in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

 

Although Rangers manager Walter Smith and Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon would rather have avoided each other at this stage of the competition, the clash will hand both clubs a major financial boost.

 

A 50,000 full house for a game not on the season ticket will generate around �£1.6m in gate receipts and under SFA rules Rangers will receive 60% of that as the home team.

 

A further �£82,500 from Sky, plus other corporate income, mean Rangers will pocket more than �£1m from a single tie.

 

The prospect of earning that amount of money, which was not budgeted for, could prove invaluable as Smith attempts to improve his squad during the transfer window this month.

 

Faced with the possibility of losing Kenny Miller for around �£600,000, the Ibrox club are aiming to land Dundee Unitedâ��s David Goodwillie.

 

But the Scotland Under-21 star is likely to set them back around �£1m so the revenue from an additional derby clash could be the difference in pulling that transfer off.

 

The game will be priced as if it were a glamour Champions League tie so it is unclear whether Lloyds Banking Group will try to claim all of that income or allow manager Smith some unexpected leeway in the transfer market.

 

Celtic also stand to benefit healthily from the tie. They will receive around �£700,000 for their 40% share of the gate plus �£82,500 from Sky.

 

It will be the first Old Firm Scottish Cup tie since Celtic won 2-1 in the third round at Parkhead in 2005.

 

Celtic first-team coach Garry Parker believes Gers will be favourites, despite the Parkhead club winning 2-0 at Ibrox at the start of the year.

 

He said: ââ?¬Å?They are at home so I would say they would be favourites. It doesnââ?¬â?¢t always work that having certain players back available will make us stronger.

Former Rangers striker Mark Hateley believes Rangers will look upon this tie as the perfect chance to gain revenge for their recent derby defeat.
