McCoist - out of his depth?

Recommended Posts

When you seen the CL Draw and we got Malmo did you not think the present squad was good enough to beat them?

Ally also told us they were READY for the game certain players let Ally down but his tactics and inability to change a game have to be desired. He was part of the Kaunas disaster as was the players who spoke about it yet haven't learned from it.

I thought we were good enough on paper, but I knew that if we couldn't beat them we didn't deserve to be in the CL at all.

And as it's turned out the latter is true - and our European exploits have given us a real indication of the quality of our squad at European level.

Where's that evidence? All I have seen was a player behaving like a bampot, first giving away a simple goal, then getting himself send-off. I saw us missing a number of gilt-edge chances at home, chances we'd have scored nigh any other day. But that was essentially pre-season for us, when sharpness levels could simply not be at a level you have seen in May. Add to that the fact that we were under strength and had a not exactly a settled side out there ... as well as utilizing some well practised, but essentially not very productive tactics. Against Maribor, we gave away silly goals which cost us over all. That is football for you. We've laughed about any such happenings when being done by other teams many times before.

Team v Malmo McGregor Whittaker Goian Papac Weir Wallace Davis McCulloch Edu Naismith Jelavic 9 players that won us the league hows it that under strength and not exactly a settled side are you kidding me on mate ?

That team which won us the league was running on absolute empty. It punched above its weight, inspired by Walter, and had an electric run in which won us the league in the end.

But it needed a serious pep up - and it hasn't really had one.

I'd consider a team with no Lafferty plus Edu and McCulloch in midfield "under strength". But that remark was not solely referring to the people on the park, but the general state of fitness, tactics used et al, as I also pointed out.

Malmo was a car crash waiting to happen a bad pre season and up against a team halfway through it's season we gave them too much respect Ally's fault then missed enough chances to win a dozen games never mind the muppets getting sent off. Remember still had one more round to play after Malmo against a better team to get to the CL. Maribor was just a repeat of Malmo missed chances and players switching off we did it on Sunday against the sheep and got away with it. We won't against the yahoos the team we to wake up quick.

Guest Dutchy
I'm really starting to think it's nervousness Dutchy and that's a slight worry. He's got a lot of experience in dealing with being in front of cameras and talking about football in front of cameras, but never as the manager of Rangers. I don't even think the times Walter sent him out to do the interviews as assistant manager have prepared him for what he's now having to deal with. Hopefully he'll get used to it and settle down. He really needs to relax, but as you say, at the moment he seems to be trying too hard and I think that's a combination of nerves and pressure.

I think you're right with the nervousness thing, but I'm hoping it's more to do with Ally's expectations of how he would be treated, or is being treated. It can change.

I remember Billy Davies giving interviews when he first took over as Motherwell manager, he was a nervous wreck, now, he speaks calmly and is coherent, or as coherent as a Scotsman can be down south.
