SHEFFIELD Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric is understood to have launched a bid to take over Glasgow Rangers.

The Serbian businessman, 73, has apparently noted interest in taking over with the administrators of the stricken Scottish giants.

The Ibrox club were forced to call in administrators Duff and Phelps over an unpaid tax bill of £9million, accrued since Craig Whyteâ??s takeover in May.

There is little to stop Mandaric staying put at Hillsborough and also launching this swoop for Rangers but it remains to be seen whether he would have the desire to run two clubs at once.

The only barrier would come under the rules of â??common ownershipâ?? if the clubs clashed in Europe and with Wednesday in League One that is unlikely.

Former Portsmouth and Leicester chief Mandaric has just emerged not guilty from tax evasion charges alongside Spurs manager Harry Redknapp.

Mandaric owned San Jose Earthquakes in the States before taking over at Belgian club Charleroi then French outfit Nice.

In 1998 he moved to take over Portsmouth and made them a huge success under the leadership of Redknapp.

He had a tempestuous reign in charge of Leciester before moving to buy troubled Wednesday for just £1 and agreeing to settle the clubâ??s debts as part of his takeover.

On November 29, 2010, his offer to take over Wednesday was overwhelmingly accepted by 99.7 per cent of shareholders at a Hillsborough extraordinary general meeting. Mandaric single-handedly erased the debts that the club had been saddled with for more than a decade by paying around £8m to creditors.

A few reports flying around about this, this morning...

Is it not the case that he's been named as an interested party by the admin, and that for them to do that, he's not complained about it.

But here we go again. One tax doger from a long line of tax doging businessmen.
