Yeah you can get rid of it, Spybot certainly isn't the best imo but running a decent antivirus program finds it then you still have some of the manual stuff to do as I described above.

Ive always managed to get rid of it. It comes back only because it's invisible with some of the adware/shareware programs.

The link has the same steps as the one I gave. Neither mention going into add/remove programs or having a quick look at msconfig though.

CCleaner is great as has a seperate tab to scan the registry for problems too.

It should be straight forward mate.

Download this http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/confirmation.aspx?id=17

Run it

While it's running look for anything in your add/remove programs that shouldnt be there ie mywebsearch, other search things and remove them

Do that for now and reboot to see how you get on. Apart from the running of the program it shouldnt take to long (unless you run the complete scan) but it should find everything for you.

All of the internet add-on and tool bar stuff is just a case of following the steps on the page, all straight forward.

The trick is never use automatic install always use expert install and you can un-click the toolbars and unwanted programmes. people tend to pick automatic and then just keep clicking yes without reading what is asked. Pick expert install and read the instructions.

Get shot of Silver-light. It's crap anyway.

I'd go to microsoft update though and make sure everything is as it should be with your system, it may give you updates etc that will resolve the problem.
