Reconstruction Talks

Recommended Posts

THE following joint statement has been issued on behalf of the Scottish FA, SPL and SFL:

"All three parties have been involved in productive discussions for some time on the subject of league reconstruction. This culminated in a positive meeting last night, out of which the two league bodies will now engage in a wider consultation with their member clubs.

"The discussions are based on the key principles for reconstruction outlined in the Henry McLeish Review of Scottish football:

* One league body in the senior game

* Promotion/relegation play-off between SPL and SFL First Division

* Single financial distribution model

* Pyramid system, with the potential for relegation from and promotion to the fourth tier

"Further consultation will take place in the near future, with the aim of reaching a positive outcome on a new model to take Scottish football forward

"Consultation with member clubs"!!!

Sounds like the fans views will be ignored again, and again, and again, and again, and forever.

While have no clue how fast this might be done, I doubt that it will be done over the summer.

Agreed. But we will be emasculated over the summer - but kept in a position that will retain maximum financial benefit for everyone else.

Trouble is the fans' voices have been listened to over our expulsion from SPL; those left have now to make up the shortfall by increasing their attendances.

I would assume that the SFL teams are in favour of such a voting, since it gives them more influence about the way the money in the Scottish game is shared. Some SPL may agree too, since it breaks the 11-1 vote the OF enjoys. They'll probably baulk at the 3-1 vote an SPL team gets, who would not?

But again, I can't see this taking off for the upcoming season.

Is this the real reason for these talks? Allows them to put Rangers even further down than the 3rd division.

I listened to Stephen Thompson's mouthpiece, Jim Spence on BBC Radio Scotland yesterday. He started by lionising what he called the 'fans' revolution'. He credited social media for enabling the 'fans' revolution', making special mention of 'Pie and Bovril' on a number of occasions. Apparently, Rangers supporters views and involvement in this fans revolution can be dismissed until, "they show humility".

Spency lionised the pyramid system, dismissing the concerns of such clubs as East Stirlingshire as inappropriate because they brought nothing to the game. On cue, Presenter Rob McLean then read supportive e-mails from supporters participating in the fans' revolution stating, Rangers should be pushed down further and including we should be suspended from football for a season before being allowed into Div'3.

Dundee United are committed to our obliteration.
