Rangers Women - Games and Updates

Recommended Posts

Good to see that Mr. King answered my question regarding the Ladies team (well, at least I can say I wrote him a question about that):

Ladies Team

The Club has demonstrated our commitment to the Ladies first team and Academy since we created our first squad back in 2007. Since then the Academy has grown and now boasts more than seven squads from under 12s to the first team. We have 122 Academy to first-team players with 16 girls in our elite centre. The squads train at Auchenhowie and have played games at Ibrox Stadium, which further demonstrates the Club’s commitment to investing in our female football talent. In March this year, we recruited our first full-time employee, Kevin Murphy, to work as the ladies first-team manager and oversee the girls’ Academy. This Academy mirrors the work that has been implemented within the boys’ Academy and we hope our talented young female players can progress through the ranks to help achieve their potential. There have been several players in the past few seasons that have progressed from the Academy to the first team and this remains a priority for the staff involved.

We are fully committed to continuing our support and aid for the ladies’ programme and not simply because by having a fully supported female section we are recognising our social and corporate responsibility. Perhaps more importantly, we recognise the growth in the women’s game on its own merits and we will continue to support the development of our female teams and ensure our first team keep competing in the Women’s Premier League.

SWPL1: A piece of Mason magic makes it three wins in a row

June 27th, 2016

A spectacular long range strike by Louise Mason saw Spartans make it three SWPL 1 wins on the bounce with a 1-0 win over Rangers at Ainslie Park.

Suzy Shepherd’s Spartans’ resurgence continued with a dogged display to edge out Rangers in the final game before the summer break.

Alana Marshall’s attempt on the quarter hour mark saw Rangers keeper Claire Johnstone scrambling to push the ball round the post in what was a relatively incident free first half.

Laura Gavin having the only other notable effort of a half devoid of stramash and goal mouth incident. The striker was unable to direct her shot between the sticks following a sweeping defence to attack move.

HT: Spartans 0-0 Rangers

Rangers came out of the traps the fastest in the second half, with Megan Foley the first to show her sides intent to head back across the M8 with the points. Thankfully for the home side, her shot hit the back of the net – of the practice goals on the side line.

With the game showing signs of stalemate, it needed something out of the top drawer to settle proceedings.

That came from the boot of Louise Mason who pulled off a sensational strike from 25 yards that gathered pace as it sailed over the outstretched arm of Johnstone to hit the back of the net.

A relative bystander during the course of the game, Eartha Cumings was called into action when she stayed big before turning Chantelle Brown’s effort behind for a corner as Rangers looked to get back on level terms. It was a save that also ensured the young keeper earned her third clean sheet in as many league games.

With eight minutes left on the clock, substitute Christie Kerr was inches away from doubling her side’s lead, only to send her header over the bar from deep inside the box.

FT: Spartans 1-0 Rangers

And you shouldn't be surprised to know that Louise Mason (23) was playing for us once, before leaving in 2010 to join up with Spartans, where she is back now, after a short intermezzo with Adelaide United.

A RANGERS Ladies football player was in the Turkish holiday resort of Marmaris when gunfire was reported.

The Turkish President was believed to be in the resort for a period of time, leading to gunshots and explosions as elements of the military attempted to oust him from goverment.

Rhonda Jones, who has 117 caps for the Scottish national team, posted a video on Twitter and admitted she was “a bit scared”.

The video shows chanting protesters taking to the streets with car horns tooting.

A second tweet from Rhonda reports an exchange of gunfire and a small explosion.

The plotters had earlier claimed they had seized power in a bid to preserved democracy.

Public opinion on President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is divided, with many opposed to his increasing authoritarian tendencies and a perceived ambivalence towards Islamist extremists.
