kinda strange reactions considering we won the game 3-1.....

I think it's actually quite promising that we have fringe players who can come in and still defeat a team like Falkirk (regular SPL team).

Absoluetly and it's interesting to see some experimentation invloving some of the reserve and youth players because it shows that Ally is looking at some of his options.

According to the official line-up he was playing Argyriou and McAusland at right midfield which might seem strange since neither player is officially a midfielder, but with 3 at the back it maybe makes sense....

Then there's the new lad Stella supposedly playing on the left of midfield according to that line-up, but the lad's a forward? :wtf:

Maybe that line-up doesn't really represent what positions players were actually playing on the pitch? ;)

3-4-3 and practically only Kyle playing in his natural postion, the rest was an experiment. Despite a 3-1 win that is worrying. This was another chance to get the team gelling and settled and finally out of this 'pre season' thing that people are going on about.

AM needs to make his mind up now about whether he is going to play 3 at the back or 4. Even when he has being playing 3 at the back its been 5 in midfield. So the 3-4-3 is out of the blue.

Formations aren't an issue, as long as we play well & win.

What is worrying is playing players out of position for no apparent reason.

Moving a player out of position to accommodate putting another name on the teamsheet isn't a good idea.

The teamsheet should be based on current formation, opposition formation & squad availability, among other factors. Sometimes it appears as though the teamsheet is done before any of the rest is decided & that names are on there, just to be on there really.

No explanation of Perry's absence. Is he with the u21s?

Know nothing of Murdoch, Walsh and Aird. Any comments from Elfideldo or someone else in the know?

Cant really remember McAusland either though at least recognise the name.

Aye,he played for the U21s' last night

I wonder what Ally learned from the game? - Falkirk really are shite!!

Firstly, it gave the fringe players game time. 2nd, it gave Kyle much needed game time to sort out his fitness. 3rd it allowed McCoist to try something different, with nothing on the line. It also allowed him to see how the players could adapt to alternate positions, should they be required either through injury, or as a changeup during a match.

Is that not the whole point of closed doors friendlies - to experiment???

Yes....but only when we have a team who is at 100% of their fitness and know each well and have been playing with each for a while. Surely gelling a new team in the system he plans to play is higher on the agenda than experimenting when we have had 2 out of 2 'fails' away from home so far this season.

The positives from this is Kyle got a run out to sharpen up, but I cant see where 3-4-3 came from unless this is how we are going to play in the weeks ahead.

TBH, its a formation I like and can have a perfect balance when it works, Wigan showed that last season by beating Arsenal, Man Utd and Liverpool with it.

We are testing systems / tactics for e.g. home and away games, with a tweak for difficult and not so difficult opponents here and there. Can't see any wrongdoing in this. I for one have no rpoblem with a 3-5-2 approach in home games, where we should be able to batter any 3rd opposition from the off and then perhaps revert to a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 to pick teams off later on. Likewise, testing formations for away games against teams who will usually try to hit us on the counter while trying to stop us playing is also required. So the more we know about the players' abilities in different positions and with different people alongside them the better. Not to speak of building up fitness levels.

Using it as a means to gel the team is a bit pointless when some key members of said team are away on int. duty.
